SKYE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 22 Judge: Mr Harold Gay SKYE JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 22 I was delighted to have the opportunity to go over Skyes again. The elegance of the Skye is still there but somewhat muted, possibly because there weren’t that many that would be able to genuinely say their height was only 10 inches. Fronts were a little mixed with some having front feet at ten to two rather than straight ahead that the standard asks for. Mouths were generally good with strong jaws and good teeth. Backlines varied with level being a challenge for some. Ribs were all of good length rather than the short rib long loin combination that gave an unstable backline in the past. Mixed age entry means coats at different stages but some would have benefitted from a little more presentation. An interesting day and nice to see the Skye BOB shortlisted in the Group. 1 Lyne’s Madaza Box Of Frogs. Best Special Beginner. Drop eared Cream. Profuse coat and still a puppy, good size. Backline rises on move, good angulation at the rear. 1 Bailey’s Rhoderns Haggis At Marjayn TAF. A 7 month baby who, quite rightly, still behaved like one at times. Good length and shape. moved with drive behind when settled Still very loose in front. 1 Lyne’s Madaza Box Of Frogs. 1 Baker’s Kometa Rossi Madrid At Silverbriar (Imp Ger). A cream with a typical youngster’s coat. Lovely backline which held on the move. Good angulation behind. 1 Turner’s Knowlespring Quincy. Cream dog with strong jaw, good head and well fringed ears, some shading still in the coat. Moved well with good drive behind and a level backline he kept on the move. RDCC. 1 Heath’s Lavaux’s Bahamian Chris. Good well placed ears with good fringing, Level back line that he held on the move, tail perhaps carried a little high. Good rear angulation, and drive behind. 1 Pringle’s Ch Esgia The Exciseman. Cream dog. Well presented all through, good length. Nice ears and eye strong jaw, Good front and angulation behind which gave excellent movement. Crested neck that flowed into a level back that he held on the move and standing. DCC & BOB. SBB (1) 1 Heale’s Rhoderns Helena. 7 month baby, loose on the move and not yet settled in backline. Lovely feminine head with a good neck. Coat obviously not there yet. 1 Heale’s Rhoderns Helena. 1 Curtis’ Brakemill Midsummer Dream. Lovely bitch with a nice crest of neck, well fringed ears and good head. Good angulation and front structure. Moved with drive and reach. Shows a lot of promise. Best Puppy. 1 Miller & Ryan’s Classic Touch of Morningsky With Feorlig (Imp Deu). Classic 3 L’s (long, low and level) bitch. Well presented all through. Good angulation behind which gave her a very positive rear drive. Front action did not quite match up. 2 Whincup’s Gleanntan Look At Me At Partisky NAF (Imp USA). Eyecatching well presented black. Good head, well fringed ear, well made front, good angulation slightly shorter than first. Did not move as positively. 3 Roberts’ Tarskavaig Speed Bonny Boat To Gallondean. Black. Pleasing head eye and ears. Not as good a coat as the above two. Sound in movement when settled. 1 Roberts’ Sunabil Tywysoges O’Libanus. Black bitch with a feminine head a well fringed ear and good crest of neck. Moved positively, coat still needs time. 1 Burscough’s Kilfinan Nightingail. Not the longest backed Silver but beautifully balanced. Gooood outline and shape that she kept on the move, which she did positively. Nice crest of neck and a good head and ears. 2 McLean & Weir’s Knowlespring Miss Marple. Good outline and level topline on the stand but it wobbled a bit on the move. Carried a bit too much coat around the front feet which spoiled the impression of the front on the move. 3 Heath’s Skyeshire Rosie. A more feminine bitch, well muscled behind which gave her good drive, tended to stand with a rise to the rear but of good overall shape. 1 Roberts’ Kilfinan Seren Gail At Sunabil. A correct size bitch with good head ear and eye. Nice rib, jaunty mover, parallel behind, coat needs work to make a better picture. Nice class. 1 McLean & Weir’s Kometa Rossi Gerbera At Rhoderns. This was both the the strongest class of the day and the most numerous. Beautiful looking dark grey with good shape, balance and topline which was held on the move, performed with positive reach and drive. Beautifully level, excellent rib, head and crest of neck. Would have liked a little more coat length to complete the picture which was why she lost out to the dog for BOB. Pleased to award her the CC. 2 Pringle’s Esgia First And Fairest. Cream bitch in excellent coat, well presented, level on the move and standing. Good rib and outline. Nice head and ears Moved well with drive and reach. Just preferred the overall balance of first. RBCC. 3 Curtis’ Ch Verumamicus Aurora Of Brakemill JW. Beautifully presented, well angulated front and rear, so many pluses but today her heart was not in the showring today and her movement suffered. 1 Burscough’s Ch Glorfindel Shadow Wings At Kilfinan ShCM. An 8 year old who looked good and moved well. Good body shape and outline. Stood well and held the backline on the move. Best Veteran
