SKYE JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 19

I really enjoyed judging Skye Terriers at this well run show and would like to thank all exhibitors for their entries. This was my first CC appointment for this breed although I have judged them once before in the UK at The Skye Terrier Club Open Show in 2013. Skyes have played a big part in my life and I have enjoyed that very much. I had never met a Skye until I met Ch Silverprint Pampas, Ch Olivia Made In USA and their daughter Ch Silverprint Beetle in 1987, all displaying excellent breed type and made a big impact on me. I think the overall quality was very good, temperaments were first class throughout the whole entry. Most fronts were what I would describe as normal for the breed and there were excellent representives in both sexes taking the top awards. Coat quality was excellent but some could have done with a slightly tighter earset. Worth thinking about is that the length should be in the ribcage, not in the loin.

1 Pringle’s Esgia The Excisman. Very nice young dog here. Nice head on him, good layback of shoulder, level back. Moved and showed very well. Looked good in the challenge, should have a good future

2 Mason’s Bhatairnis Fasach. A lot to like about this dog, good proportions, masculine head, good body and straight good coat. Carries his tail higher than I prefer and needs a little more experience.

LD (1)

1 Herbert’s Tweedsmuir Stargazer. Nice dog, good length and strength of head, could be tighter in elbow, not quite in full coat but quality good, moved ok.

OD (5)

1 McLeod’s Juger Edelweiss Me Myself And I At Esgia (Imp). Impressive drop eared dog all male, lovely head and expression with correct drop ears. He has excellent proportions, long low and level. Good coat quality. Moved and showed well. Unlucky to meet the veteran winner, but a very worthy winner of RCC.

2 Breeze’s Linum Cranberry Crush At Salena (Imp Fin). Totally different type, closer to the ideal size than first, but preferred the proportions and head of first. Presented in perfect order and his handler knows how to get the best out of him.

3 Kendrick’s Ch Frisco Kiaora At Jeraro.

VD (2)

1 Curtis’ Ch Brakemill Barnum ShCM. What a great ambassador for the breed this dog is. Lovely overall proportions. Masculine, well shaped head with good expression, super Skye temperament. Excellent body, coat and tail. He combines substance and elegance in an ideal way and is a fluent mover If I would be hyper critical he is beginning to loose his topline but only very slightly on the move, perfect standing when he presents a stunning picture. I had no hesitation whatsoever to award him the DCC and later in the day BOB, a very worthy winner. I was told afterwards that this win made him the breed record holder, well done and so well deserved. CC, BV, BOB.

2 Parker’s Glorfindel Deacon Brodie ShCM. I remember this dog from judging at the Open show, what I particularly remember from that occassion was his rock steady and lovely temperament and this still applies many years later. Good head and expression, firm elbows, correct coat. He moves a bit close behind but his tail has come down a little. A fine veteran.

PB

1 Herbert’s Finnsky Yves Sweet. Well presented bitch with nice temperament. Feminine head, would prefer better layback of shoulder, good body for age, straight good coat showed and moved well. Best Puppy.

JB (4)

1 Curti’s Verumamicus Aurora Of Brakemill JW. Wow, what an exciting young bitch displaying excellent breed type, beautifully made all through, plenty of substance, excellent head and pigmentation, Super coat. Moved and showed well. I had her as a possible winner when all were called back for the challenge and my memory served me right and she was awarded CC with pleasure. I later found out she is daughter of my DCC winner and that this win made her up. It was a close call between her and her sire when competing for BOB, she will no doubt have a rosy future

2 Pringle´s Esgia First And Fairest This bitch was unlucky to meet 1 but was well presented and very sweet. Good shoulder, level back straight, good coat. Nice head and expression. Sound mover.

3 McLeod’s Esgia’s Lone Wolf.

PGB (2)

1 Large’s Parrima-arih Universe Of My Fantasy Is Madaza. Excellent bitch of good size, good head, excellent front construction, good overall proportions, correct straight coat To be very critical her croup falls away a bit but not a disaster and she is full of quality. It was a pleasure to award her RCC, well done

2 Gracie’s Bearreaig Isle Na H-airde. Sweet bitch with feminine head, not in full coat Needs a little more training to be shown to full advantage.

LB (1)

1 Parker’s Tweedsmuir Feebee Mine ShCM. Well constructed bitch with a good front, good rib to loin ratio, correct coat. Could do with some more ear fringes. Needs a little more training to be shown to advantage but sound mover.

OB (4)

1 Heath’s Perrylands Hello Again. Very nice bitch put down in excellent order, Good overall proportions, Feminine head, hard good coat, level back Moved and showed very well

2 McLeod’s Charoit Madlen Mardzheri At Esgia. Well constructed bitch, good head, excellent back and coat Moved well. Preferred the overall proportions of first.

3 Woodhead’s Ir Ch Knowlespring Candy Cane.

VB (1) 1 Curtis’ Ch Brakemill Briar Rose. Very good bitch on the table, so well constructed front and rear, plenty of substance, good rib to loin ratio. In the challenge she neither moved or stood well and therefore had to pay the penalty.
