SKYE JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 18

Thanks for the entry which at 26 from 25 dogs was about average by today's standards. I thought that temperaments were excellent as was the overall presentation of the dogs. I am particularly troubled by two aspects of the breed. Firstly size where some of the exhibits were just enormous. I guess the breed standard's ten inches these days is an impossibility but some of them must be around fifteen inches which is just a step too far in my view. The other problem is fronts and they are not at all good. I don't know how breeders are going to be able to improve on that. I guess it would be too controversial to suggest some outcrossing to achieve sounder forequarters but that will only become a necessity if fronts deteriorate to become a health problem?!

PGD (3, 1)

1. Kendrick's Frisco Kiaora at Jeraro (Imp), OK in head with good proportions of skull to foreface. Very pleasing in ears with good feathering. Good neck and correct level back which could be a shade longer. Better for size than 2 and slightly better in front than him as well. Moved out well behind. Moved around the ring well and was good in coat.

2. Herbert's Tweedsmuir Stargazer, good in skull but could be better proportioned in head as between skull and muzzle. Moved OK behind and was better there than in front. Well muscled. OK in coat but rather large all round.

LD (3, 1)

1. Woodhead's Knowlespring Drummer Boy, very good in skull with correct head proportions and good expression. Good ears. Correct topline and not too bad in front. Good hindquarters and moved out OK. Better for height than 2. Good tail and tail carriage.

2. Large's Juger Edelweiss Mickey Mouse is Madaza (Imp) a pleasing drop ear with a good head and enough skull. Scored for length but was not as low as should be. Moved out well behind but could be better in coat finish.

OD (4)

1. Bergstroem's Dk Ch Skyewalker's Player, though he could do with a shade more confidence in the ring I thought he was really excellent for head, eye and expression with a good skull, correct ears well carried and well feathered. He was really good in neck and topline and was pretty good in front compared to some. He moved well behind and was good for size. Correct strength of bone and good feet. Correct in rib. Tail well carried without exaggeration. He went on to win DCC and BOB.

2. Curtis' Brakemill Barnum Sh.CM, another pleasing dog with not quite the head proportions as 1 but good ears and correct skull. Excellent neck. Could be better in front and not small by any means but better for size than 3. Good in coat and well presented. Scored over 3 for length of loin. Went in to win RDCC.

3. Breeze's Ch Salena The Magnificent One.

VD (2)

1. Harrison's Ch & Ir Ch Knowelspring Jail House Rock for Trenso, a biggish dog but scored for length over 2 though didn't have quite the ear furnishings of 2. Very good neck and better tail carriage than 2. Moved out well enough in front and behind and was better in front than 2.

2. Burscough's Glorfindel Secret Shadow at Kilfinan Sh.CM ,. Very pleasing in head and expression with good crest of neck, Excellent ears and ear feathering. Could be better in front and carry tail better but very good topline and shown in excellent coat.

MPB (2,1)

1. Large's Parrima-Arih Universe of My Fantasy NAF TAF (Imp) One with a very appealing head with enough strength of muzzle and good eye and correct ears. Looks as though she should finish with a pretty good front. Excellent neck and topline just right for her age. She moved out well and jauntily. Coat coming along well. Carried her tail well. Was the only puppy here but she deserved the BP award and should have a very good future.

PGB (4,1)

1. Heath's Perrylands Hello Again, better for size than some of the others here, good ears and ear carriage, good neck of the correct length and shape. Pleasing in head proportions and good strength of muzzle. Not bad in front and good feet. Held topline well going around the ring. Better behind than 2 Enough coat of good texture. Went on to take RBCC

2. Parker's Tweedsmuir Feebee Mine, slightly bigger than 1. Not too bad in front. OK in skull but could do with a bit more ear feathering to complete the picture. Could move better behind but scored for topline over 3. 3. Roberts' Glorfindel Effort at Sunabil.

LB (3,2)

1. Perrylands Hello Again.

OB (5,2)

1. Bergstroem's Dk Int Ch World Lux N Ch Skyewalker's No More Tear. Very pleasing in head and expression with better ear feathering than 2 and better for size. Excellent neck and head carriage. OK in front. Moved out well behind. Was shown in excellent coat of the right bloom and texture. Stood up well and looked really typical with just the right outline moving around the ring. Went on to win the BCC.

2. Miller & Ryan's Feorlig Romantica, again pleasing in skull with good neck and had plenty of length. Could do with a bit mote ear feathering and needs just a shade more confidence in the ring to compete the picture. Moved out well and better behind than 3.

3. Curtis' Ch Brakemill Briar Rose
