SKYE BIRMINGHAM DOG SHOW 11 Judge(s) MR ALBERT WIGHT DCC CH SALENA BLACK SHADOW (MRS S BREEZE) Skye Terriers A very mixed entry & the negative points which struck me most were the short rib cages & long loins, lack of strength in skull/or muzzle, dippy backlines & the number which seem to be unable to move with a good stride & keep their shape. On the positive side the BOB winner earned a very creditable G4 in a hugely competitive group under one of the great Terrier names, Mr Harry O’Donoghue. PD (2) 1 Richardson’s Talyot Mithras & 2 White’s Talyot Menelaus at Gumshoe, two very nice young black boys & they share many virtues. Both have a decent length of ribbing & body. I liked the strength of skull in Menelaus while Mithras had the longer neck & in stance kept his backline firmer. Both in excellent coat & while I felt Menelaus would be the better mover, he corkscrewed up & down the ring while his brother was much more composed so won the class & BP. JD (1) 1 Marshall’s Glorfindel Black Mage, lovely type with an excellent head, ample width in skull, powerful foreface & he has such dark, penetrating eyes. Ears well placed & carried atop a good reach of neck. Well ribbed, the loin is firm & he has a decent bend of stifle. In good coat he was well presented but very unsettled on the move & never really extended himself. If he can be persuaded to cooperate & show more drive, should do well. PGD (3) 1 Robson’s Knowlespring Daredevil Dan with Mitsui, heavily coated cream dog who is undeniably male in head, good skull width & strong foreface. Ears are well fringed, his shape appeals when stacked as he keeps his back level & uses his neck to advantage. Would like to see him show more reach & drive in profile action. Lovely coat condition; 2 Miller’s Feorlig Arfur Sixpence, a very nice shape with a decent head & eye. Ears almost bereft of fringing which did not help his cause & I feel he will need time to fill out his frame to look his best. Gained this spot on the fluency of his action; 3 Shuttleworth’s Whicheeta Celtic Keepsake. LD (5) 1 Ankorn’s Feorlig True Destiny of Pensford, I liked much of this cream dog. His make & shape impress on the stack, lovely arched neck, ribs carry well back, forechest is oval & very well boned. Pleasing head, very good eyes & on the move keeps his backline. Smooth if unexaggerated stride & true in front; 2 Richardson’s Talyot Learchus, pleasing head & eye, ears well set & carried, reasonable spring & depth of rib but needs to carry more bodyweight over his ribcage. I liked his reach of neck, shoulders are well laid back & has a good bend of stifle. Circling the ring he did not have the easy side action or drive of 1; 3 Heeps’ Azrakhan Mr Buttons. OD (3) 1 BOB, G4, Breeze’s Ch Salena Black Shadow, benefits from expert presentation & handling as this lady makes the very best of her charge. Good head, eyes & foreface, well set ears, terrific reach of neck, heavily boned forelegs & has sufficient length of ribbing to give the shape I like. Lovely backline, well muscled hindquarters with a decent bend of stifle & good tail. Holds his shape on the move & was pretty true out & back. A worthy Ch; 2 RCC, McLean’s Glorfindel Rob Roy, heaps to like about this very handsome beautifully headed cream dog. Ears & eyes are so good & his fringing helps his appeal. Body is well developed, firm in backline & was in terrific coat. I would just like to stretch him out a little to give that length to his outline. A sound moving dog, he would be a very worthy ch; 3 Curtis’ Gumshoe Bugsy Malone of Brakemill. GCD (2) 1 G Bugsy Malone of B, beautifully coated & presented black, lots to like, stunning reach of neck, big ribcage of good length & depth & so well boned. Pleasing head, ears well fringed, excellent eyes. Topline slack in repose & I felt he was stepping short as he circled the ring. 2 T. Menelaus at G. PB (2) A. JB (2) 1 Bell’s Glorfindel Spring Secret, still at that very immature looking stage & needing to mature & fill out. Slightly better length of ribbing than 2, pleasing head shape, dark eyes & good mouth. Enough reach of neck, & on the move she had better reach & drive; 2 King’s Glorfindel Spring Surprise for Celticbridge, I liked her head type, very good length & strength in muzzle with well shaped, very dark eyes. Short backed & has a habit of standing with her hocks too far under her so her loin rises & foreshortens her. Not too well schooled on the move as she seemed unsure & as a result was stepping somewhat short. PGB (2) 1 Proud’s Knowlespring Dream Walk to Dolphaz, nicely balanced head on this grey which is heavily coated, sound in action & shows ample reach & drive as she circles the ring. I liked her reach of neck & head carriage, keeps backline level both standing & moving, very good bend of stifle; 2 Shuttleworth’s Whicheeta Celtic Crusader, pleasingly headed grey with excellent ears, fringing & width at the back of her skull. Not quite the reach of neck of 1 & I would like a fraction more length to her ribcage. Moved out truly on the up & down but when she circled the ring she was a bit half hearted & was stepping short compared to 1. Well coated & presented. LB (2) 1 CC, her seond, Marshall’s Glorfindel Lucretia, really smart black bitch with instant appeal. Beautifully headed with length & strength, gorgeous eyes, ears so well fringed & muzzle is powerful. Well arched neck, level in back & such muscled hindquarters. Slightly diffident about her how far she will move at any one time, but she is totally sound & is just ‘difficult’! This exhibitor’s charges are always immaculate in coat & she was no exception. She lost out to the handsome male on the move where he was fluent & showing off while she was all for cutting corners; 2 RCC, White’s Salena Special Effect at Gumshoe this is a really smart bitch. Loved her overall length, that reachy neck, the deep chest & strong loin. So well muscled, lovely feet & her side action was smooth striding & fluent. When stacked tends to dip in backline which detracts from the overall picture, but she deserves to be crowned because of her virtues. OB (3) 1 Bailey & Hansel’s Ch Silisia Firenze, long, low not level but just oozes type. Excellent head, strong backskull, good stop & excellent muzzle. Lovely reach of neck, well angulated hindquarters & in stunning coat. I see she will be 8 this year. She was the best side actioned mover in this class but when standing her topline is very slack. She has a look of a ch & I would like to have judged her at her peak when she must have been impressive; 2 Robson’s Lynaire She’s No Lady with Mitsui, shorter coupled black, nice head, very good ears, just about enough neck & so well coated & prepared. Sound enough out & back but circling the ring did not have the extension or drive of the old girl; 3 McLeaod’s Esgia’s Sula The Late Edition. GCB (2) 1 S Special Effect at G. ALBERT WIGHT |
