Bath 10 Judge

SCOTTISH BATH 10 Judge: Mrs C E Cartledge SCOTTISH JUDGE BATH 10 Scottish Terriers Numerically I thought the entry of 57 from 53 dogs was very good for a Friday but there were quite a few absentees. I found this a very difficult entry to judge & must confess that I was disappointed with the overall quality. Many were overweight & in soft condition, lacking muscletone & general fitness. Movement generally was not very good & quite a few failed in front action lacking reach. The bitches were a little more even in type than the dogs but I had some very big, heavy bitches who lacked femininity. A few had rather large wide set ears which spoils the expression. I was struggling at times to find even line-ups. I was pleased to hear that the JD I gave BOB to acquitted himself so well in the group with a third placing. MPD (2) 1 Blower’s Killisport Koala, 8 months, excellent bone, body & coat, attractive head. Preferred sitting to standing, bit of a handful on the move but went OK when he put his mind to it. Rather long cast; 2 Rees’ Rabbonai Gilead at Miacarla, just 6 months, still got his soft puppy coat, not going very well in front. Short back, plenty of body, quite relaxed about it all, sympathetically handled. PD (1) 1 Chapman’s Berrybreeze Dizzee Rascle, 9 months black, bit of a fidget on the table but fully in charge once on the ground & going around. Splendid body, clean & well presented, keen expression, ribs carried well back, responded well to his handler, assertive showman who moved well. BP. JD (3,1a) 1 Bradley & Herd’s Brueik Magnum Opus, black, quality youngster, determined to make an impression, lovely outline, good tailset & always managed to present a good silhouette, good length of head, keen expression, harsh jacket, ample bone, strong body, well muscled quarters used on the move, wide buttocks, sound mover, in step with his handler. In the challenge looked spot on & fully deserved the big green card, such a focused showman. CC & BOB; 2 Tovey’s Trackside Flying Scotsman at Charmic, 12 months black, just giving a bit of age away here & not quite holding his topline on the move. Will look better with a new jacket. Well proportioned, good type, firm body, pleasing head, moved OK when he concentrated. ND (1) 1 T Flying Scotsman at C. PGD (7,2) 1 Chick’s Brueiks Magical Connection, black, made the most of himself on the move, well coated, excellent presentation, big body & rib, muscular neck, good bone. A little plain in head. Steady showman; 2 Rees’ Rabbonai Black Diamond at Miacarla, mouth not 100 per cent, not quite topline or front movement of 1. Good coat & condition, plenty of bone & substance, looked well standing. Topline not quite level when going around; 3 Hopcutt’s Highland Dancer at Celticbridge. LD (4) 1 Farrand’s Amberyl Beinn Mor, black, lively showman, keen & focused, well proportioned, won this class quite comfortably. In the challenge he didn’t quite have the finish & more masculine look of the CC & RCC winners. Well set tail, attractive head; 2 Rowland’s Berrybreeze Bo Diddley at Rabbonai, black with a will of his own. Moved OK when he felt like it but that was only now & again. Masculine head, well fitting harsh jacket, well rounded ribs, showed well standing; 3 Laffoley’s Gaterin Mac Adair at Yeloffal. OD (6,3) Disappointing to have only one new dog & two repeats. 1 Earl’s Turnaware Buccaneer, 5 years brindle, well up to size, performed well for his handler & did everything asked of him. Masculine head of good length, serious expression, good neck & shoulders, strong body, ample bone, lovely coat texture, very good topline, moved well behind. RCC; 2 H Dancer at C; 3 Hill’s Polwicks Black Tourmaline of Tahgmor. MPB (4) 1 Coley’s Kingsview Just The One, 8 months, easy winner of this class, well proportioned puppy, attractive head, good body & coat, best mover of the MP bitches; 2 Beckton’s Killisport Barbara, litter sister to winner of MPD, had a lot to say for herself, did not really settle to move properly. Muscular neck, strong body, looked well when stacked; 3 Curney’s Rilynson Princess Regal. PB (3,1) 1 Rees’ Rabbonai Blackberry at Miacarla, well grown, quite mature looking puppy of 11 months, bit full of herself & needs a firm hand, eventually did calm down to move in a fairly orderly fashion. Typical head, nicely proportioned, good body & ribcage; 2 Maidment’s Berrybreeze Explorer, 10 months black, good coat texture, firm body, keen expression. Short attention span so movement was a bit hit & miss but good in parts. Needs time. JB (3,1) 1 Baker’s Glenheath Grazia, lovely jacket, good head & eye, showed steadily, moved well, positive & confident about it all; 2 Sherwood & Pearmain’s Delandmar Maid To Measure, black, looked well standing but something upset her on the go round which made her slightly unsure. Feminine head & outlook, short back, well presented. Tailset could be higher. NB (0). PGB (8,4) 1 Pagram’s Torcraig Black Pearl, black, in great form, dominated this class & later in the challenge really looked the part to win the CC. Feminine head, switched on showgirl who moved with a purpose, shapely body, well fitting coat, good neckline, strong quarters, well presented & handled; 2 Greenwood’s Petmon Miss Tiggywinkle, feminine black, good coat, typical head & expression, calm steady showgirl, well bodied, moved OK; 3 Rowland’s Rabbonai Cupcake. LB (10,1) Biggest class of the day. 1 Corney’s Rilynson Sunshine Princess, had to pull out all the stops to win this big class. Brindle, splendid coat texture, very fit & well muscled, good length of head, neat ears, dark intelligent eyes, good bone, sturdy body, excellent quarters, moved well behind. Black Pearl is just a tad shorter in back but it was a close decision. RCC; 2 Sherwood & Pearmain’s Ashkeltar Maybe This Time at Delandmar, black, good outline & proportions, feminine head, coat in excellent order, short coupled, good bone, well handled, moved OK; 3 Morris’ Lucia’s Dream Serenade Scotchmore. OB (5,1) 1 Beckton’s Kentwella Karamel by Glengracie, wheaten, well boned, good silhouette, harsh jacket, well presented & handled, good length of head, keen expression, good ribcage, adequate mover. Lost a bit of interest when competing for the CC; 2 Sherwood & Pearmain’s Ashkeltar Time N Tide at Delandmar, black, short coupled, made a good account of herself to begin with but got just a bit warm at the end. Pleasing head, strong body & quarters, good coat; 3 P Miss Tiggywinkle. LIZ CARTLEDGE |
