PARSON JACK RUSSELL JUDGE WINDSOR 13

Parson Russell Terriers

What can be said other than a family affair. Without realising the connection, bitch CC & BOB, bitch RCC, dog RCC, first in JD, JB & PGB were all by the same dog & the dog in question was 2 in OD. My definite compliments for finding such a combination & having come out the same on repeat matings & also with other bitches. That the dog CC was not of the family says how well he looked & performed on the day; not the same type but 100 per cent Parson.

Parsons are always a great breed to judge as they have their roots very, very firmly in work. How has the exhibition scene affected them? As always there is variety, but nothing too extreme & the breed does really seem to be in good shape from the entry seen. OD was outstanding & some of the bitches were really beautiful. A few years ago the breed did go through a rocky patch, but it seems to have found its way again with a vengeance. Some coats were harsher than others, but with the way the weather has been that was forgiven. It was the first time obvious clipper marks had been encountered though.

V

1 Pacolito Xceptional, spannable bitch of nice size & shape, moved well with good muscle behind, well placed ears;

2 Ch Afinlea Roadside Skipper, strong dog with a head of good proportion & well placed ear, moved parallel front & rear, level topline. Maybe dropped a little too far in chest with age;

3 Ammanday April.

MPD

1 Pacolito Highly Prized at Dragonmoor, rangy baby, nice head & eye, good body shape, stands straight in front, adequate angulation behind. Movement needs time, loose in front & variable at the rear;

2 Parruss Comanche Boy, very rangy dog with good head & muzzle proportion, rib spans, stands well when he settles. Good front, but a little straight behind. On the move he was very obviously a baby.

PD

1 Pacolito Highly Prized at Dragonmoor.

JD

1 Alncroft Imperial, very nice young dog. My in ring scribblings just show a list of goods from head to shoulder to movement to size. Only criticism is to the handler, keep a better eye on how he stands as occasionally he stands very over angulated (which he isn’t). RCC;

2 Ruffntuff Regal, heavier dog all over but still spannable. Straight front & excellent behind.

YD (0).

PGD

1 Gonetoground Trick Or Treat, a dog not helped by his heavier markings as they give an illusion to his backline, which is fine. Head of good shape, strong jaw. Moved with balance but rather short in reach & drive;

2 Cleeve Hill Kasper, white with remarkably keen expression, in excellent muscular condition & very balanced on the move. Would prefer more type in head;

3 Pacolito Rogue Trader at Denlyhill.

LD

1 Heythrop Tailwind, classic looking, easily spannable dog, this is obviously a working terrier and, as such, paled slightly when it came to the challenge. He has everything going for him: skull, head, proportions, neck, body, movement. It’s an age old argument in any breed, showring verses original use, & in Parsons it sometimes rears its head high & this dog was such a case. If it had been a working terrier show there would have been different top awards;

2 Afinlea Ratzer Ringlet, nice moving Parson but heavier dog all through.

OD

1 Ch Parruss Comanche Chief, this dog headed a very good class indeed & stopped a clean sweep of top awards so it indicates his class on the day. He did everything asked of him & some more, when others were starting to flag in the unaccustomed heat. No hesitation in awarding the CC, lost out on BOB to a really beautiful bitch, admittedly not as big ring eyecatching, that was in fabulous form;

2 Ch Alncroft Blackthorn, an interesting dog & sire of many of my winners. He has really nice shape & proportion, good head, ear, parallel front & rear, the lot & a habit of standing, for want of a better way of describing it, American showdog style. It looks very flashy, all on the toes & intense but it just didn’t seem right to me for a Parson. His offspring have got all his very positive attributes but not what I see as his detraction;

3 Hoolmark Sundance Kid.

GC

1 Sherosco Christmas Rose, nicely proportioned bitch.

MPB (0).

PB

1 Whats The Storey, spannable bitch of good shape & size, good head proportions, nice lay of shoulder & rear angulation. Moved as a puppy does. BP;

2 Digaden Secret Affair, equally nice puppy but longer in back than 1 & not as good in coat;

3 Gonetoground Twist Of Fate.

JB

1 Alncroft Sovereign at Lyonmill, this & the JD make a very nice pair of siblings. A feminine bitch of lovely size, shape & balance. Very promising indeed, but not as far on as her brother;

2 Alncroft Maid An Issue at Springbeck, yet another of "the family” & it shows. Just not quite as pleasing in the neck to shoulder run;

3 Matsstars Lady’s Mantle at Starfield.

YB

1 Pacolito Phinal Phling, nice bitch that flows well from head to tail, nothing out of proportion, moved with balance & purpose;

2 Pacolito Phrankly, well proportioned all through, nice straight front. Moves close behind.

PGB

1 Alncroft In Gold, good overall proportions & easily spannable, great head & set with keen eye & expression, when settled moved with drive & purpose. Once again of "the family” & nice to see that my BP from Crufts 2011 is coming along so nicely;

2 Coclestane Cinnamonm excellent head proportions, good angulation behind. A little long in back;

3 Gonetoground Go Getter.

LB

1 Riplington Black Cherry, lovely shape & size, head, backline, movement, spannability, straight front, balance, she has it all. Yet another "family” member. RCC;

2 Lyonmill Daydream, smaller bitch of good proportions, well balanced on the move;

3 Gonetoground Go For Gold.

OB

1 Ch Alncroft I Spy, moderate bitch who is excellent in such moderation, there is no extreme at all, everything breathes Parson Russell & she moves with free reach & drive. CC & BOB;

2 Hoolmark Boppin Robyn, well proportioned bitch, excellent head, easily spannable, moved with reach & drive. Another Parson that I was pleased to judge;

3 Araceta Beatrice from Pacolito.
