PARSON JACK RUSSELL RICHMOND 11 Judge: Geoffrey Roden (Quarrymist) PARSON JACK RUSSELL JUDGE RICHMOND 11 Parson Russell Terriers The dogs were all presented in good condition & handled extremely well, the younger competitors showed our breed is in good hands for many years to come. One observation I made in general was the variation in size which made for some uneven looking classes, although I was pleased with the quality of the heads. VD (1) 1 Bigland’s Ch Heythrop Toastmaster, 9½ years, still in top condition, lovely wedge shaped head, full dentition, kind eye, perfect ear carriage, good reach of neck going into nice lay of shoulder. Straight front, well angled at rear, moved out with real drive & purpose. Harsh double coat & loose pelt. He lost interest later on but set the bar high for those that followed. PD (4) 1 Newport’s Digaden Playing Away, 8 months, ideal size, spannable ribcage, wedge shaped head, muzzle of correct length, full dentition. Good reach of neck flowing into well laid back shoulders, rear quarters well angulated proving plenty of drive on the move; 2 Douglas’ Gonetoground Spick ‘N’ Span, nice puppy, full of life, 6 month, smooth coated, correct wedge shaped head, kind intelligent eyes, flat skull, good earset. Correct reach of neck which will enable him to protect the front legs whilst working underground. Good lay of shoulder, nice angulation at rear, double coat. Pelt not as loose as I would have liked. Very loose on the move but should settle as he matures. JD (3) 1 Hooley’s Hoolmark Sundance Kid, ideal sized dog, lovely head, strong foreface, full dentition, almond shaped eyes, tidy ears set close to the cheek. Straight front, adequate width between the legs to allow free movement. Spannable, back straight with rise over loin, well angulated at back, good bend of stifle, moved round the ring with ease; 2 Newport’s Digaden Playing The Field, slightly larger than 1 but still spannable behind the shoulders. Good sized head, large teeth, good lay of shoulder flowing into a straight back. Well developed second thigh & hocks set low giving plenty of drive moving away. A little unsettled at the front. PGD (4) 1 Bigland’s Heythrop Tailwind, of ideal size, a head to be proud of, wedge shaped, flat skull, muzzle slightly shorter than the stop to occiput. Large teeth, full dentition, almond shaped eye, lovely neck & shoulder, spannable, straight front & back, dense double coat with loose pelt. Balanced throughout & moved with absolute ease around the ring; 2 Griffiths’ Digaden Windrush Chase, larger example than 1. Nice head, full dentition, presented a typical Parson outline being slightly longer than tail. Nice lay of shoulder going into straight back, rise over loin, well angulated. Not as settled on the move; 3 Moore’s Moonreapers Billy Bones. LD (3) 1 Tagg’s Rymshot Tactic, of ideal size, slightly longer than tail, well ribbed & flexible, easily spannable. Good shaped head, full dentition, large teeth, harsh double coat & loose pelt, good shoulder & rear angulation providing settled movement round the ring; 2 Sutton’s Pacolito Persona at Springbeck, larger example than 1, had difficulty spanning. Strong head & foreface, large teeth, full dentition, good reach of neck flowing into good lay of shoulder, straight back, well angulated at rear. Unsettled on the move. Harsh double coat & loose pelt. OD (6) The first 2 in this class presented me with what I consider to be the best Parson heads I have seen in a long time. 1 Vaughan’s Ch Parruss Comanche Chief, absolutely cracking dog, nothing remotely feminine about this exhibit. Strong jaws, large teeth, broad wedge shaped head tapering towards the eyes, flat skull, shallow stop, almond shaped eyes & ears correctly placed, ideal size. Strong boned, straight front, spannable, straight back, rise over strong loins, correct angulation, moved with absolute ease around the ring. Impressive harsh & dense double coat, loose pelt, in hard condition. The most eye catching exhibit of the day. CC & BOB; 2 Farrow’s Ch Glenholm Happy Go Lucky, very good example of Parson type, great head showing much of the attributes listed above. Strong muscular neck widening into good lay of shoulder, straight back, well developed second thigh, good turn of stifle & hocks set low, plenty of drive going round the ring. Challenged hard. RCC; 3 Denby-Gardener’s Ammanday Augury. VB (0). PB (8) Some very nice puppies in this class. 1 Denby-Gardener’s Ammanday Affinity, lovely puppy of old fashioned type, hope she doesn’t grow any more. Feminine head, strong foreface, full dentition, dark almond shaped eyes, good reach of neck, nice lay of shoulder, spannable, double coat, loose pelt, good rear angulation providing plenty of drive. Moved smooth & confidently round the ring. BP; 2 Newport’s Digaden Playing Truant, smart strong head, nearer the mark for my ideal size of a bitch. Spannable, good angulation, nice harsh double coat & loose pelt. Moved well & challenged hard, another day could swap places; 3 Baker’s Pacolito Phinacle. JB (4) All 4 dogs in this class were very nice. 1 Nixon’s Gonetoground Go For Gold, very nice youngster who pushed hard in the challenge for BB. Ideal size, beautiful head, intelligent kind eye. Slightly longer than tall. Spannable, good angulation, good Parson outline standing which wasn’t lost on the move. One to watch; 2 Coogan & Runnacle’s Pacolito Phorbidden, good bitch of ideal size, good wedge shaped head, strong jaws, large teeth, sound angulation providing plenty of drive on the move. Had a tendency to throw her front legs out. Harsh double coat, loose pelt; 3 Blair’s Gonetoground Gogetta. PGB (5) 1 Moore’s Moonreapers Floradora, ideal size, excellent typey Parson head, flat skull, shallow stop, strong jaws, full dentition, strong neck widening into well laid back shoulders, straight back with rise over loin, straight front, tidy feet, spannable ribcage of correct shape & depth. Lovely thick double coat & loose pelt, best mover in this class; 2 Smith’s Bethane Liberton Lassie, I think I am being spoilt, another good example of the breed. Strong head & foreface, muzzle of correct length, large teeth, ideal size. Topline could be better. Spannable, good angulation, double coat, loose pelt. Not as settled on the move; 3 Bigland’s Heythrop Tandy. LB (7) 1 White’s Ebblechase Rosanna, smooth coated, perfect for size, very typy Parson head, nice reach of neck widening into well laid back shoulders, ribcage of correct proportions, spannable, strong loin, well angulated at back, good turn of stifle & low set hocks providing the means to propel this dog around the ring with such ease. Just got better & better as the day went on. RCC; 2 Baker’s Pacolito Numero Uno, smooth, slightly smaller in size & the head wasn’t as strong. Correct wedge shaped head, flat skull, almond shaped eyes, correct ear carriage & full dentition, neck of good length flowing into well laid back shoulders, spannable, good sized ribcage, straight back, rise over loin & excellent angulation, moved beautifully. Close contest; 3 Tagg’s Hoolmark Tidy. OB (8) Very difficult class to judge, so many nice dogs to choose from. 1 Baker’s Pacolito Phlattery, this little girl came in & demanded to be noticed & never let up. Lovely feminine head, keen expression, muzzle of correct length, large teeth, flat skull, tidy ear placement, good reach of neck widening into well laid back shoulders. Spannable ribcage of correct shape & depth, strong straight back, rise over loin, well turned stifles & low set hocks. Walked straight & true going away & back, made it look easy. CC; 2 Bigland’s Ch Heythrop Tiadrop, typy bitch of ideal size, good wedge shaped head, strong muzzle & large teeth, good Parson outline standing & moving, well laid back shoulders, decent turn of stifle & low set hocks, covered the ground with ease. Obvious she could go all day long if required to do so; 3 Rimmer’s Kylini Mythnmyst. GEOFFREY RODEN |
