PARSON JACK RUSSELL CRUFTS 11 Parson Russell Terrier Judge(s): MR P WILKINSON PARSON RUSSELL TERRIER
It's always an honour to judge at Crufts, and something looked forward to with anticipation for months, but this year was a 24 hour appointment due to the unfortunate indisposition of judge Paul Wilkinson. Paul, you would have enjoyed the entry and hopefully will be better soon. The ever growing International entry at Crufts makes for an interesting day and general comments take on an even bigger meaning when numerous countries are involved. Some heads are text book but others still are showing a closer resemblance to the Fox Terrier and, a first for me, were a few that had stops more aligned to a Pointer. Mouths were good with only a couple not up to the required standard but some teeth are rather small. Fronts seem to be drifting into an acceptance of a more upright shoulder that means short reach, which looks very smart, but isn't what the standard asks for. Feet as a whole were very good. It has been an exceptionally hard winter so poor drive behind, due to soft muscle condition, was not looked quite as hard on as I usually would and I do look at movement as it is one of things that distinguish Parsons from their Fox Terrier relatives. The large classes meant I split them into two for initial movement to enable the dogs to stretch out and show what they could do but not many handlers took advantage of it. Some ribs cages were too big and unspannable but it was tailsets that surprised me. Moderately high set is beginning to show a distinct tendency to mid to low set and thus giving a fall off that looks rather strange. Considering the weather that has been around coats were really good and size continues to stabilise. The days of the very tall and very small seem to have disappeared and also there was little evidence of the long swan necks that had a fashion for a while. Bone was generally good with only a couple I would class as too light. I enjoyed my day and thank you to all exhibitors for taking the very last minute change so sportingly. BOB Ch Hoolmark Johnny Ringo. Scores in all departments from feet to head, balanced in body and on the move. He does have a habit of standing over-exaggerated but that is all it is, a habit. A dog from the old school. BOS Nordic / Ger / Fin / Multi Ch Revefotens Little Spark. Totally balanced package with superb rib, movement and that certain something which demands attention. To be ultra critical maybe her proportions require a tadge longer leg but that is just nit-picking in the extreme. Her class (Open Bitch) was the class of the day so to be pulled number one there says what I thought of her. BP Alncroft In Gold. Absolutely beautiful 9 month old bitch. She has everything a pup of this age should have and then a bit more. I'd change nothing. Tiring a little in the Bitch Challenge meant she missed out on the Res CC. One for the future. VD(5) You can still easily see why these three dogs made Champion. 1 Denby-Gardner's Ch Ammanday Apollo. Spannable with good angulation and straight front, balanced on the move. 2 Rimmer's Ch/Ir/Int Ch Kylini Celtic Wizzard JW. Preferred rib on one, refused to properly settle on the move. Very nice head shape. 3 Brown andGrange's Ch Afinlea Roadside Skipper. Nice size, shape and good balance on the move. SPD (7,1) 1 Selby's Jacksden Jumpinjack Flash. Gives an excellent first impression that continues on. Loose in front, as he should be for his age, but good sidegait. 2 Bigland's Heythrop Tailwind. Good head, eye and ears. Inclination to stand a little arched over the loin. 3 Baker's Spellbert Supersonic Via Pacolito. The third of a very nice trio of puppies and all very comparable. This boy just did not settle on the move. SJD (9) Difficult class with no clear type. 1 Fooy-Van Roosbroeck's Beleriad Red Bull. Good shape, size, spannable rib, adequate angulation and positive on the move when he settled. 2 Bigland's Heythrop Thunderstruck. Very strong head, very heavy coat which made the initial outline difficult to see. Hard muscle behind. 3 Wilson's Pacolito Phormula One To Dragonmoor. Good angulation, balanced on the move. YD(8) Another difficult class. 1 Kjempengren's Revefotens Second To None. Head is not the fortune and a pronounced body mark makes him a dog easy to overlook but the conformation, balanced movement, good shape and size earned him first place. 2 Smith and MoonAlncroft Blackthorn. Nice head and ear, has a tendency to let backline fall away. 3 Newport andBaker's Ratscallion Tactical Play. Little longer in back, good angulation, a little upright in front. PGD (9) 1 Messiaen and Virginie's Suzan's Pride Izar. Nice shape and size, adequate angulation, sound in front. Movement gave him the class. 2 Eastwood's Pacolito Preshous At Denlyhill. Smaller dog, upright straight front which shortens his reach, adequate angulation, good head and eye, not positive. 3 Davies and Frost-Copping's Goldfern Grand Lad. Moved with balance, narrower head. LD(6,1) 1 Sutton's Pacolito Persona At Springbeck. Spannable dog with straight front and correct tail carriage, correctly proportioned body, moved with reach and drive. 2 Liddell's Alncroft Arctik. Good head, eye and well placed ear, straight front, shape and outline but lacked enthusiasm. Coat not at its best. 3 Swift andParr's Spellbert Captain Jack. Good shape and size, nice head, deeper in rib. Good angulation and drive behind, a little upright in front. OD (23,1) 1 Hooley's Ch Hoolmark Johnny Ringo JW. 2 Bygate's Ch Windynook Init To Winit. Beautifully moving, straight fronted, powerful driving behind dog, good head, let down slightly by coat not at its best. Res CC. 3 Horge's Dan Ch Rustic Russell P Belvedere. Good head with keen expression. Good outline and size. Angulation gave positive drive behind. Stood well. GCSD (3) 1 Walls' Katjarat Mister Cool. Masculine dog, would like more positive movement behind. 2 Doyle's Alne Master Piece Of Ilexcuercus ShCM. Shape and outline Ok, head could be better. 3 Kannangara's Lenacourt Lunar Eclispe. Nice head, angulation could be better. VB (4,1) 1 Denby-Gardner's Ch Ammanday Academy. Stands well with nice topline, moved positively, overall a well balanced package. 2 Pell's Starlight Express At Olliebark. Straight front, excellent drive behind, deep in rib. 3 Stark's Gobannium Midsummer Nights Dream. Spannable bitch with high set ears, adequate rear angulation, not quite sound in front. SPB (2) 1 Smith andMoon's Alncroft In Gold. 2 Steel's Kingpar Callista. Lighter all over bitch, a little narrow in head, straight front. Would have liked more angulation behind. SJB (12,2) 1 Roberts andTodd's Chataway Careless. Lovely shape, balanced outline, keen eye and expression, good front construction and rear drive. Stands very well. 2 Baker's Pacolito Persistant. Nice spannable bitch, neck of moderate length but run into shoulder could be better. Correct rear angulation meant good drive. 3 Chapman's Foxwarren Lollipop. Nicely proportioned, good shape. YB(5) 1 Baker's Pacolito Numero Uno. Nice size and shape, adequate angulation behind, front could be better. 2 Towler's Andralok Dazzler. Nice outline but a little deep in rib, could be more positive on the move. 3 Broadberry's Ratscallion Legal Tactics. Smaller bitch rather overawed by the day. PGB (17,1) 1 Baker's Pacolito Picture Image. Well put together bitch with nice head and well placed ears, very balanced on the move with nice drive behind. 2 Frost-Copping's Goldfern Grand Cru. Nice outline, shape and size, moved out well with drive behind. 3 Doyle's Ilexquercus Rosy Rustic. Feminine bitch, nice run in of neck to topline, not as positive in movement. LB(13,1) 1 RImmer's Kylini Spellsabound JW. Pleasing head with nicely placed ears, well proportioned bitch that moves with balance and drive. Good topline. 2 Roberts and Murray's Mindlen Matuka. Excellent shape, size and balance, moved close behind. 3 Baker's Pacolito Picpoket At Spellbert. Nice outline but heavier in rib and could do with more angulation. OB(15,1) 1 Mejlander-Larsen and Kjempengren's Nordic / Ger / Fin / Multi Ch Revefotens Little Spark. 2 Collis' Ch Alncroft Tribute To Riplington. Beautiful head, excellent shape and size, moved with drive and reach. Res CC. 3 Rimmer's Kylini Mythnmyst ShCM. Excellent outline, well made right through, stands so well, no shame at all to stand third in this class of extremely nice bitches. GCSB (5) 1 Doyle's Ilexquercus Rosy Rustic. Placed in a nice class of 15 in Post Graduate. 2 Minett's Princess Lilo. Moved well, nicely placed ear, good spannable rib. 3 Dolman's Pacolito Phirstpick To Maxtay. Taller bitch with a narrow head.
