PARSON JACK RUSSELL BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 15 Judge: Mr Harold Gay BEST OF BREED : 7536 CHAPMAN Mrs J H Hermine Du Toucan D' Arthur DO YOU WISH THAT THE KENNEL CLUB WOULD PUT IT'S OWN HOUSE IN ORDER? Is It Acceptable To Award BIS To A Dog That Refuses To Be Examined?read more PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION ABOVE. IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS USE AN ALTERNATIVE NAME. PARSON JACK RUSSELL JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 15 Parson Russell Terriers The opportunity to judge is always an interesting experience & I thank the exhibitors. The Parsons today were split in quality terms with some of the dogs being rather disappointing while the bitches showed much more quality right through. Limit & Open were the star classes of the day with all being able to change places with each other without any problem on a different day & circumstances. The Parson Standard asks for a free striding movement but some were noticeably more inclined to a Fox Terrier style of propulsion; very showy but not correct. I have big hands but for the first time was unable to span some of the animals under me; yes it is only part of the Standard but a very important one. Everything in a Standard is always open for debate but wording of ‘moderately’ high set for the tail isn’t mid to low however you look at it. All were carried well but the lower set does have an effect on the rear structure. Well done with the improvement in rears that were generally better than I have seen for a long time, the breed looks so much better without a straight backend. Interesting to discover the two CC winners were both first timers & both imports! MPD Two very nice babies with everything before them. Both balanced, both toplined, both with desired head proportions, expressions & toplines. Both have the verve & enthusiasm of youth but Taber was a little more mature in his outlook & slightly more in control of his legs; hence the placing. 1 Wood’s Ardencote Taber; 2 Broadberry’s Foxthorn Huron at Ratscallion. PD 1 Wilson’s Pacolito Russell Sprout of Dragonmoor, just 6 months old & showed like a veteran. Good head, eye & ear, length of neck into a well proportioned body. Straight front, angulation behind, lots of promise. He may be starting out but certainly worthy of the RCC. JD 1 Roberts & Murray’s Mindlen Magni, 10 months old & a bit of a head scratcher. He’s rangy but is it his age? Nice head that could be better balanced, age? Good shoulders, well ribbed, nice topline. Moves with drive. PGD 1 Tullis’ Mindlen Rascal, well constructed dog all through. Flows nicely from head to neck into shoulder & right through. Didn’t see why he should settle on the move. LD 1 Roberts & Todd’s Rustic Russell Thor, a well proportioned dog of good size with pleasing outline & total balance. Spannable. Nice reach in front & drive behind. Correct head & expression with well carried ears finished this boy off. Congratulations on your CC; 2 Baker & Stanway’s Pacolito Patchez, nice for size & overall balance. Good in head, shoulder, balance & topline. On the move took a while to settle but straight in front & parallel behind; 3 Hall’s Frithgarth Magic Sandpiper. OD 1 Newport’s Sweetjumper’s Gentle Twister, good overall outline, shape & proportion. Nice head & expression but possibly a touch narrow for a dog, good for bone, straight in front & good angulation behind to move with drive; 2 Smith & Moon’s Alncroft Imperial, good overall outline, lovely head, good reach of neck, correct topline, straight in front, moved well. Would prefer a more masculine muzzle; 3 Chapman’s Ch Foxwarren Picasso. VD 1 Hall’s Frithgarth Jack Frost, 9½ years. Pleasing head, straight front, good topline but didn’t really want to settle on the move. MPB Three nice youngsters. 1 Storey & Kelly’s Pacolito Rumour Has It, good shape & proportion, nicely muscled behind for a minor puppy. She has the angulation, the straight front, topline & head. Just needs the age but mustn’t grow anymore; 2 Broadberry’s Ratscallion Firefly, another nice puppy with all the attributes of 1 but not so tight in front or as muscled behind; 3 Newport’s Atlantica High Flyer into Digaden. PB 1 Broadberry’s Alncroft In Tune at Ratscallion, she is absolutely beautiful. A four word critique only but no more is needed. BP over the RDCC; 2 Smith & Moon’s Alncroft In Time, a lighter, leaner version of her sister but with many of the same attributes. Didn’t move as well but both are young, a very nice couple of siblings; 3 Highfield’s Bradpole Beauty. JB 1 Rimmer’s Kylini Mona Lisa, feminine head, well placed ear, good reach of neck, nice proportions, straight front. Would have liked more front reach. PGB 1 Bigland’s Heythrop Tiffin, is politically allowed to say excellent working type animal? You aren’t left in any doubt of her heritage as she doesn’t have the show ring glamour look but she has outline, type, size, topline, weight, narrow front & balanced movement; 2 K Mona Lisa; 3 Tinegate’s Milvinae Whats The Storey. LB 1 Chapman’s Hermine Du Toucan D’Arthur, a bitch who looks so right. She has it all from shape & proportion to topline, head, skull, muzzle, balance, the lot. Another who doesn’t have the glamour so could be easy to miss by some. Pleased to award CC & BOB; 2 Bowden’s Araceta Beatrice from Pacolito, well proportioned head & nice ears, good run in, straight front, good angulation behind, moved well; 3 Rimmer’s Kylini Magical Myst. OB 1 Sutton’s Ch Alncroft Maid An Issue at Springbeck, this is the glamour girl, Hollywood style, & she knows it. Well balanced with correct size & proportion, feminine head that has strength, nice ear set, good reach neck to clean shoulder, correct topline, parallel front & rear. A beautiful Parson. RCC; 2 Smith & Moon’s Alncroft In Gold, third time I’ve judged this bitch from BP at Crufts 2011 to a first in 2013. The critique then still applies: good overall proportions & easily spannable, great head & set with keen eye & expression, moves with drive & purpose. Today her sister had the edge. Compliments on her BP daughter; 3 Baker’s Ch Pacolito Phirstedition. VB 1 Newport’s Pacolito Xceptional, nice head, well placed ear, good length of neck. Nice proportions, moved well with positive drive; 2 Bigland’s Ch Heythrop Tiadrop, a bitch of lovely size & shape with feminine head. Today she seemed intent to fidget at every opportunity & did not settle on the move. HAROLD GAY |
