AIREDALE JUDGE NAT TERRIER 09

National Terrier Club Championship Show
4th April 2009

I was pleased to award Best of Breed to Averis’ Am Ch. Longview Joker of Saredon, Best Opposite Sex to Callon & Callon-Winn’s Sonorra Bashful Betty At Russtam and Best Puppy to Toulson’s What Comes Around Via Toulsyork.
I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of The National Terrier Club for a very enjoyable day, with special thanks to my stewards for their help.
I found many of the exhibits had round, dark rimmed eyes which detracted from the Airedale’s true expression - many of them had a soft, sweet look and not the varminty expression which denotes the true Airedale, there were also many exhibits lacking muscle tone and therefore moving without drive. Presentation generally was very good but a number of exhibits were overdone in some presentation aspects which spoiled the overall image.
I am concerned about the lack of quality youngsters in our breed and what that means for future breeding programmes and the future of our lovely breed; non of us are happy with the docking ban but I feel that just like any other government decision we must make the best of what we are allowed to do and to try to keep up the quality of the Airedale otherwise our beloved breed will not live up to the King of Terriers title they so richly deserve

1. Averis’ Am. Ch. Longview Joker Of Saredon. Came into the ring – gave me a wicked look that said ‘Look no further, I’ve arrived’ This is the best dog I have seen for some time and I was very happy to award him Best of Breed. Stylish, not overdone in any way, correct size, beautiful outline especially when facing the bitch in the challenge. Has absolute balance both moving and standing. Correct shape and length of head with no bulkiness, slight stop with equality above and below. Lovely dark, almond eyes giving him a true terrier expression, flat skull, correct ear carriage and scissor bite. Good length of neck flowing into excellent lay of shoulder, short back, good rib cage, correct amount of tuck. Tail bang on top, lots behind, nicely muscled thighs, good bend. Moved with drive. CC & BOB
