AIREDALE CRUFTS 2010 BEST OF BREED STARGUS BLACK LACE Bitch Owner: MRS L LEE Airedale Terriers I was flattered to receive an entry of so many great dogs from several countries & many of them champions in their own & other countries (18!). There were some differences in size & type, the biggest difference being the tails. About ten years ago when the question of docking first came up in England, I wrote an article on the subject in DOG WORLD & the editor at the time gave it the headline ‘Judge Says Forget Tails’. When I saw the first class of mixed docked & undocked tails coming into the ring I decided to follow my own advice & take little notice of the tails in order to judge each dog on the same level playing field. VD (5) 1 Stuart’s Garland Foreign Affair, correctly built dog in good condition for his age, good head & expression, good topline, short coupling, good angulations, smart mover; 2 Martin’s Saredon Fire Warrior at Tobadale, good head & expression, good shoulder & topline, good coat & colour, good mover; 3 Peel’s Ch Collcurr Adventurer. PD (4,1a) 1 Hampton & Hall’s Muliebrity Grandioso, nice size for his age, well ribbed up & great reach & topline, very good presentation, good coat & colour. Movement not yet stable but should improve in a few months time. Excellent head & expression. BP; 2 Morris’ Nedella A Kind of Magic, good dog when standing, good coat & colour. Movement a bit sloppy. Topline could be firmer. JD (3) 1 Toulston’s Toulsyork Combat Cooper, correctly built dog, well presented but a bit reserved, good head & expression, good topline on the move; 2 Collins & Curran’s Collcur The Emperor, a pleasing dog looking happy in the ring, good front, shoulder & topline, smart mover; 3 Gray’s Grayaire Lord Oberon. PGD (11,2) 1 Lee’s Stargus The Alchemist, a very well built dog with plenty of substance, excellent spring of rib, superb head & expression, excellent reach, shoulder & topline. Plenty of drive on the move. Excellent preparation & handling; 2 Roux’s Alagesia Diabolo Menth, well balanced dog, good head & expression, good shoulder & topline. Correct movement once he found the right speed; 3 Eastall & Davey’s Daedale High Mister. LD (6,1) 1 Edwards’ Lytchdale Maestro, very pleasing dog shown in excellent condition, excellent head & expression, super reach & topline, good rear angulation, a very steady mover with plenty of drive. CC; 2 Pickering’s Jolliver Funkey Monkey, lighter dog who could have a bit more substance. Well prepared & handled. Good head & expression, good shoulder & angulations, steady topline on the move; 3 Turner’s Crillee Cool As Jack. OD (15,1) 1 Iwahashi’s Rockridge JP Black Shadow, a powerful dog with just the right amount of substance. Excellent head & expression, excellent reach, shoulder & topline, excellent coat & colour, powerful movement. RCC; 2 Surfus & Bouma’s Danbywoods Brand New Day, excellent quality overall, good coat & colour, excellent shoulder, reach & good firm topline, very well trimmed & handled to show his excellent movement; 3 Jackson & Swash’s Jokyl Captain Scarlet, an excellent all round quality dog, excellent head & expression, good topline, very smooth in movement.
