NORWICH JUDGE DARLINGTON 23

Well, the day finally arrived. 6 years after my initial invitation and the last of my covid postponements, I had the pleasure of judging those delightful little terriers, the Norwich. Thanks to the society for the opportunity and to the exhibitors for the pleasure of your lovely dogs. All exhibits had correct dentition.

JD (1)

1 Crawley & Baldwin, Ragus Punch Bowl, what a way to start the day, this handsome 9 months wheaten pup took my breath away. Compact with strength all through he has ample bone and is so well balanced. His head which has a enough width of skull, a strong muzzle and a keen eye. He has a good length of neck, excellent angulation at both ends and elbows tucked in with plenty behind the tail. It stands to reason that with his overall conformation he would move right and boy, can he move, a joy to watch. No hesitation in awarding him the CC and BOB, and thrilled to find out he later took Puppy Group 3.

LD (2)

1 Graves, Belleville I’m At Pipsacre JW. This B/T lad has a superb head with pleasing expression. So masculine he has a strong, clean jaw and correct ear placement plus a good length of neck. He has a strong topline, albeit a touch long, but he holds on the move and stands on neat feet. Good textured coat.

2 Gretton & Bell, Elates Verde, lovely red, I really was splitting hairs between these two even though they are quite different in type, such a tough decision. He is well-constructed all through with a short back and hocks well let down. His head has a dark eye with pleasing expression, just not the bone & substance of 1st Excellent presentation and handling.

OD (4,1)

1 Martin, Ragus Oh Boy, very attractive red lad sporting a nice outline and sound as a pound on the move. He has a handsome head of correct proportions and uses his ears which are set well apart. He has good length of neck flowing into his well angulated shoulders, enough depth to his chest, is short enough in the loin and possesses driving, low set hocks plus he stands on neat feet. Good for coat texture and well presented. Res CC.

2 Crawley, Mr Holmes Investigates Ragus. Another handsome chap who looks like he’s out of the same mould as 1st. Up on his toes he’s quite the eyecatcher using his ears he paints an attractive picture. He has a strong muzzle on his pleasing head, good shoulder placement and plenty of depth. He carries his ribs well back with a level topline. I’m sure these two change places many times, 1st just had the edge on movement today.

3 Armstrong & Lawrance, Ragus Sweet Bay at Elantez. Another with a very typy head, good angulation at both ends but a little longer in the back and slightly pinning in on the move. Showed well but teeth need attention.

PB (2,1)

1 Webster, Brancova Now And Then, this ultra feminine young lady is quite immature for rising 11 months but I’m sure there’s more to come.

JB (3,1)

1 Mitchell, Javidel Miss Marple at Swalefield, very pretty red at 17 months who oozes breed type. Good for size she has splendid head proportions and super ears that she uses giving her a fabulous expression. She is good for ribbing, coat texture and although not quite the movement of 2, I preferred her breed type.

2 Horsewood, Trutillian Summer Division, quite the character this red is full of beans! Very feminine with a pleasing outline. Although not quite the breed type or coat of 1 she has better hindquarters which show in her terrific movement.

LB (2,1)

1 Stevenson, Brickin Mint Edition, alert and keen, I really fell for this cobby little red; there is strength all through but does not lack femininity. She has pleasing head proportions with a good eye and ears, strong neck into well angulated shoulders and a good depth of chest with elbows tucked in. Well sprung ribs, good topline and plenty behind the tail with a good bend of stifle. Lovley little showgirl demonstrating her virtues for all to see, I was happy to award her the CC.

OB (2)

1 Hitchen, Kreatin Truly Extra, this appealing bitch is attentive to her handler whose presents her in good order. She has a most pleasing outline, totally balanced, low to ground and all in proportion. Her headpiece is to standard and she sports a quality jacket. Good for front, topline and tailset with plenty behind. Although not quite the movement of my CC winner, happy to award this typy girl the Res CC.

2 Armstrong & Egginton, Elantiz Angels and Demons JW, such a pretty girl and so well presented, she looked immaculate! Unfortunately, she was not really interested in showing off her virtues today although her handler was really trying her best. Good front assembly, ample bone but not the hind quarters of 1st
