NORWICH CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 15 Judge: Mrs R E Corkhill BEST OF BREED : 4870 BALDWIN Mrs Y A Ragus Fair And Square NORWICH JUDGE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 15 Norwich Terriers Small but quality entry, most were sound & typical & all had correct scissor bites with large teeth. Probably my most challenging judging appointment yet, had to make some hard decisions between my top winners! VD (1) 1 Barge & Hardwicke’s Baktwins Sun Seeker, handsome 7 year old b/t, sound & typical. Very good head, broad & strong of correct proportions. Straight well boned front legs, striding out well, but lacking rear drive as not enough angulation. Happy showman in excellent coat & condition. PD (3,1a) Excellent pair full of quality & type, both red. 1 Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Just For Effect, 8 months more experienced pup, ideal size for age, short level back & cobby body, really appealed to me. Gorgeous expression, correct shape head of good proportions, broad skull, deep stop, short strong muzzle. Firm straight front legs, excellent hindquarters well bent stifles, low hocks moving sound & free. Looked a picture showing all the time he pushed the older dogs hard for top awards. BP; 2 Crawley’s High Hopes with Ragus, first show, coped brilliantly! Very promising 6 months baby, most appealing head & expression, correct muzzle to skull proportions & strong enough for age. Good straight front legs, moving soundly, when he settled, from nicely angulated hind legs. Short back, with excellent length of ribcage. JD (2) 1 Crawley’s Ragus Hand In Glove, striking b/t with star quality but not the breed type of my top winners & rather a big lad! Strong head of correct proportions, but not quite such appealing expression as PD. Super sound construction front & rear, probably the best neck & shoulders in the entry. Short enough in back & strong well angulated hindquarters. Super bone, coat & condition, non-stop showman! Very eyecatching; 2 Hayes’ Ragus Fabulous Clown, attractive red, rather outshone in quality by 1st. Typical head & expression, nice broad curved skull, good stop, not as strong in muzzle but length proportions correct. Not as free moving or well angulated as 1st, but showed very well, presenting a balanced outline, in excellent condition, very attentive. PGD (0). LD (1) 1 Graves’ Ragus Morning Herald, very pleasing quality mature red dog presented in wonderful coat & condition, happy showman sound & steady, fits the Standard to a T, but not quite the sparkle of top winners. Excellent head of correct proportions, broad enough in skull, good stop, strong muzzle. Well laid back shoulders with correct length neck, firm straight front legs with good bone. Short back, cobby body with long deep ribcage, well muscled & bent stifles, low set hocks, sound balanced movement with good reach & drive. OD (4) Lovely class, four super quality dogs. 1 Baldwin’s Ragus Fair And Square, loved this dog! Mature b/t with gorgeous head & expression. To me his head is a perfect shape for a Norwich, broad curved skull, goes smoothly into deep stop & short strong muzzle of ideal length ratio 2:3 with skull. Small oval dark eyes, ever alert. Good neck, well laid shoulders, straight front striding out well. Short level back, cobby body, deep ribcage. Strong hindquarters well angulated driving well from low set hocks. Best mover in class, balanced & free. Good bone & substance, in excellent coat & condition, happy attentive showman of super breed type. Very happy to award his 3rd CC as well as BOB; 2 Stevenson’s Brickin Early Morning, close decision, similar size & equally good though slightly different breed type. Quality dark red, good coat, bone & substance. Most attractive typical head, broad skull, good stop, strong muzzle perhaps a little short in proportion to skull, small dark eyes, endearing expression! Good straight well boned front legs, short back, well ribbed cobby body. Firm well muscled & angulated hindquarters, low set hocks, moved well in profile keeping level topline, but a little erratic viewed from rear, not quite as balanced & free as 1st, perhaps due to his enthusiasm! RCC; 3 Crawley & Baldwin’s Ragus Lady’s Man. GCD (1) 1 R Fabulous Clown. VB (0). PB (3,1) Pair of inexperienced youngsters who both gained in confidence during the class. 1 Brown’s Dancing Dive, chunky little 7 months short backed red in good coat, very promising, lovely type & full of quality. Perfect head shape with sweet expression. Nice front construction, good bone for size, well sprung ribs, hindquarters well angulated. When she settled moved very neatly & correctly keeping her topline. Very patiently handled; 2 Graves’ Ragus Cinder Toffee at Nicnips, 11 months b/t much less sure of herself & needs lots of time & coat just coming. Slightly longer & leaner appearance not helped by her inclination to keep her tail low. Excellent head with good shape skull, correctly proportioned muzzle & good stop. Enough bone for size, good length ribcage, well angulated hindquarters. Quite difficult to assess movement but went quite soundly. JB (4,1) All three b/t but very different. 1 Crawley & Baldwin’s Ragus Now You're Talking, super showgirl who really took my eye for type, balance & soundness. Head very similar to BOB winner, but sweet & feminine, ideal length proportions 2:3 of strong muzzle to broad skull, & good stop. Lovely length neck flows into well laid back shoulders, good bone & straight front. Short level back, cobby body with enough rib length & depth. Outstanding hindquarters, strong, well angulated, with low hocks. Movement was a joy to watch, very free & easy. Truly enchanted me & for 2 pins would have had the CC but for the extra panache of the OB winner. RCC; 2 Tate’s Jaeva Maid Of Honour, appealing little showgirl bit outclassed today, more finely boned but very promising, needs lots of time. Pretty head of correct length proportions but lacks strength. Quite good front construction, short level back, excellent length & depth of ribs. Nicely angulated hindquarters, moves very well fore & aft well balanced. Excellent coat & presents an attractive picture; 3 Davies’ Brickin Choca Moca. PGB (1) A. LB (1) 1 Baldwin’s Ragus My Fair Lady, quality red full of type & charm. Very attractive appearance, square & cobby. Good bone, short back, compact body, enough length ribs. Very pretty head & expression, broad skull, good stop, muzzle strong but a little short in proportion to skull (similar head to RDCC). Movement lets her down as lacking in angulation both ends so not enough reach or drive. Excellent coat & condition, showing steadily. OB (3,1) Two lovely red girls of differing types. 1 Lazenby’s Ragus Diamonds Only, gassy little showgirl never gave up! Won on excellent breed type, smaller, cobbier & more balanced. Typical head with cheeky expression, correct proportions though a touch more width is needed in skull for perfection. Really good construction throughout, correct neck length, well laid back shoulders & straight front, short level back, deep well ribbed body, nicely angulated hindquarters. Moved very soundly, straight & true, good reach at front & strong drive in rear, topline level. At nearly 8 years old showed the youngsters how to go, looked a star today. Delighted to award her 3rd CC, by a hair’s breadth in strong competition from the gorgeous JB winner! Also won BV, better mover than slightly younger dog; 2 Hitchen’s Ch Kreatin Hidden Extra, classy, stylish showgirl, but not as cobby as 1st being a bit taller thus appears bigger. Pretty head of good shape & length proportions, should strengthen with maturity, good stop & typical alert expression. Front construction not as good as 1st but has good rear angulation & low set hocks. Short back, good length ribs but needs a bit more depth, level topline. Movement not quite as balanced & coordinated as 1st, but shown in super coat & condition, presenting an eyecatching picture. GCB (0). R E CORKHILL |
