NORWICH JUDGE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 09

Norwich Terriers

I always enjoy judging Norwich but they are a very challenging breed as you have to decide between type & movement. It is not always easy to get both. ‘Name Your Poison’ and ‘Trueman’ are two that spring to mind.

VD (0).

PD (5,1a)

1 Phillips’ Jaeva Kaos, a baby as you would expect & rather leggy at present. Very together on the move. Still needs to develop in rib. Good reach of neck, good topline & great coat;

2 James’ Bakewood Twenty Four Carat, heavier type than 1 & really doesn’t need to get any heavier. Well balanced, good front & bone, good topline & tailset, went quite well;

3 Norrey’s Fleurnor Snap Dragon.

JD (3,1)

1 Oddie’s Amicaro Brilliant Cut, full of type & very much ‘Norwich’, so well balanced, excellent coat & texture, straight front, good topline & tailset, well bodied, lovely head & expression, neat ears, excellent mouth, sound enough. Would like more freedom in his movement & could have more reach & drive but as I said he is so typy & you have to forgive some things. CC & BOB;

2 Horsewood & Horsewood’s Barwest Barnaby Rudge, very raw puppy of 8 months, just really needs time to mature in body which could make him look shorter. In good coat & moved out well.

PGD (1)

1 Lawson’s Softpaws Red Robin, very nice headed dog, neat ears which were well carried, good front, good topline. Would like him a shade shorter but looked OK standing. On the day moved soundly though could have had a bit more oomph.

LD (4,2)

Sadly not a good class overall, they all had good points & some not so good.

1 Norrey’s Fleurnor Red Hot Poker, very showy, sound & free moving. Could be a little more compact. Good textured coat;

2 Needham’s Titanium Pretzel, 6 years & more compact but very difficult for his handler. Not the neck of 1 nor the coat texture. Moved OK in profile;

3 Kirkpatrick’s Tynallt Trouble Shooter.

OD (2,1)

1 Needham’s Ch Titanium Columbus, rich red of good type, short & compact, good topline. Lacking a bit of body at present & would benefit from a bit tighter trimming. Sound & free moving, good head & ears when he used them. RCC.

VB (1)

1 Wilson’s Elve Forest Witch, really good moving 10 year old, nice size, good textured coat, good head & expression, went very well.

PB (7,1)

1 Fraser’s Ragus Right Little Madam, very showy bitch, wouldn’t want her any bigger & also carrying enough body weight. Having said that she has a very typical head & expression, good front, really moves out well, should do well. BP;

2 Corkhill’s Redash Cherry Plum, close up to 1 in type, sound mover, moves well in profile. Tends to drop her head which spoils her outline. Nice to go over, great showgirl & wouldn’t be surprised if these two change places on another day.

3 Corkhill’s Redash Cherry Ripe

JB (8,1)

1 Brown’s Queslade All That Glitters, very showy, another I hope has stopped growing. Shown in great form, sound with reach & drive in profile;

2 Corkhill’s Redash Crystal Clock, close up to 1 & similar in many ways, good reach of neck, excellent topline. Never stops showing, in good coat & carries her tail well;

3 Griffin’s Brenin Summer Gold with Burlmere.

PGB (2)

1 Fraser’s Tasha Von Den Zwei Eichen at Saltarello & 2 Norrey’s Fleurnor Caillan Blaa, just the two & very different in type.

1 is shorter & better bodied, good head & ears. I would prefer better shoulders & front movement. In good coat & showed well.

2 is a little plainer & shorter in coat but was being difficult on the move & never really settled & continued to pull to one side & so didn’t help herself.

LB (4)

1 Needham’s Titanium Paint Your Wagon, very feminine, smaller type but well put together, nice head & expression, neat ears, in good coat, sound & free moving;

2 Fraser’s Wild Devils Franka Potente at Saltarello, very showy, in good coat & condition. Not quite as compact as 1. Moves well in profile but could be a little sounder in front. Well handled;

3 Stoddart’s Ragus Much Jubilation at Millvalley.

OB (2)

1 Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Coconut Cream, lovely bitch to go over, well put together, very sound, good neck & shoulders, good topline, excellent hindquarters, really moves with reach & drive, in excellent coat & condition. CC;

2 Martin’s Baktwins Follow That Dream, lots to like about this bitch, shown in short coat which I felt makes her look a bit plain. Nice to go over, good front, excellent bone, excellent topline. Would like to see her in full coat & ruff, sure she will look a different bitch. RCC.
