NORWICH JDGE BLACKPOOL 19

Thank you to my two efficient stewards who managed the ring smoothly and many thanks to the exhibitors for entering their dogs. This is a breed I always enjoy watching ringside and first judged them 18 years ago, and I would like to make the following observations. Historically the breed appeared to lack the correct conformation in their quarters which affected rear movement, however today the majority had correct rear conformation, but their fronts were so diverse. There were several with short and upright upper arms similar to what we expect in the long legged terrier breeds and there were a couple who have long upper arms with an angulated return similar to an Australian terrier. However I was pleased with my principle winners.

PD (1)

1 Crawley’s Ragus Beyond Question. Exhuberent baby as they should be at this age. Lovely head of desired proportions with correctly set eyes and ears. Enough neck into well laid back shoulders and a desired length and return of upper arm. Straight well boned fore legs and a level top line. Good spring of rib carried back to a short loin and nicely angulated quarters. Moved true both fore and aft.

JD (1)

1 Crawley & Baldwin’s Ragus Time Of My Life. Lovely cobby youngster who has a super head of correct proportions with nicely placed ears and eyes portraying a typical expression. Super front assembly with shoulders set at the correct angle and a good ratio and return of upper arm onto straight well boned fore legs. Level top line and a good tail set and his spring of rib is extended back to a short loin. His quarters are well developed in muscle tone for his age and they are correctly angulated. He moved soundly both ways and was well presented. He was a strong contender for top awards and I was pleased to watch him win terrier junior G4.

LD (2)

1 Smith’s Javidel Walk In The Park. Decent head and expression with enough neck into well set shoulders, although I would prefer a better angled upper arm and straighter fore legs. Level top line and super quarters and moved true going away.

2 Webster’s Bellville Striking Effect. Decent back skull but I would prefer a tad shorter fore face to complete a balanced head and his mouth is untidy. Straight well boned fore legs and a good spring of rib, although he could be shorter coupled. Well angulated quarters and moved true behind.

OD (5, 2)

1 Crawley & Oddie’s Ragus The Jumping Jack. This dog was what I was looking for as to me he epitomises a Norwich Terrier as he is low to the ground, cobby, short and appears to have great strength. His head is typical with the desired ratio of fore face, well filled under his eyes which are correctly placed and his ears are well set, his expression reminded me of the great Rings true who was a favourite of mine. His muscular neck fits into a text book front assembly as his shoulders are set at the correct angle with the correct length and return of upper arm which frames his well developed forechest. His front legs are straight and well boned onto super feet. His topline is level and he has a good tail set and his lovely spring of rib is well extended back to a short loin. His quarter angles mirror his front assembly which attributes to his overall balance and he was presented in first class order. However it is when he moves that he commands your attention as he is so true both fore and aft and covers the ground with correct reach and drive when viewed from side profile. I had no hesitation in awarding his the CC & BOB.

2 Tate’s Jaeva Pay The Piper. Another quality exhibit of a different type to the winner, although he also has all the breed characteristics to make him a top class specimen. I just preferred the overall balance and rear movement of the winner, RCC.

3 Kell & Crawley’s Ragus All Guns Firing For Amicaro. 3 Kell & Crawley’s Ragus All Guns Firing For Amicaro.

PB (3)

1 Tate’s Jaeva Pink Slipper. This is one enchanting baby who I could have brought home with me. Her head is beautiful as she has the correctly shaped back skull with a ratio of one-third foreface and is well filled under her eyes for her age. Her dark well set eyes are so expressive and her correctly placed ears all constitute to the desired expression. She has enough neck into a super front assembly and the correct angles to allow for a desired brisket with maturity. Her fore legs are straight and well boned for her age and she has a good spring of rib which is well carried back to her short loin. Her quarter angles mirror her front construction. I would prefer a slightly better tail set, but she does carry it correctly. She moved so soundly both fore and aft with correct foot fall when viewed from side profile. I was pleased to award her the CC which I’m sure will be her first of many and BPIB, I loved her and was pleased to watch her win Terrier puppy G4.

2 Crawley’s Ragus True Love. Another promising baby who has a lovely head and expression and good front angles. Level topline and nicely angulated quarters. Presented in super condition and moved soundly behind. I preferred the head proportions and front movement of the winner.

3 Horsewood’s Tritillian Perfect Joyce.

JB (1)

1 Hayes’ Ragus Seven Jumps. Typical head and expression, decent front angles, level top line and well developed quarters for muscletone. Moved soundly behind.

LB (3)

1 Hayes’ Ragus Seven Jumps.

2 Kell & Crawley’s Amicaro Light Up The Sky. Decent back skull and well placed ears, her shoulders are nicely placed but I would prefer a better ratio and angle of upper arm. Level topline and nicely angulated quarters, Moved soundly behind.

3 Webster’s Ragus Now For Fun.

OB (4, 1)

1 Hitchen’s Kreatin Extra Treat. Lovely type who has a super head as her back skull is correctly shaped and she has a desired proportionate foreface, her dark eyes are well set and her ears nicely placed which attributes to her characteristic expression. Her shoulders are correctly placed and she has a good ratio and return of upper arm onto well boned straight fore legs. Her ribs extend back to a short loin and her quarter angles mimic her front construction. She is very sound in both fore and aft movement and covers the ground with correct foot fall and was presented in great condition. I strongly considered her for the CC but she has a tendency to drop into her front assembly which slackens her topline and spoils her shape and balance, RCC.

2 Crawley’s Ragus Loving Spoonful. Another typical example of the breed from this famous kennel who is short and cobby with super front and rear conformation and moves soundly both ways. I preferred the head proportions and coat condition of the winner on the day.

3 Batey’s Ragus Burning Question.
