NORFOLK WELKS 09 Judge(s) MR M P PHILLIPS DCC ROXWAY DIRECT LINE (MR J C MITCHELL) Norfolk Terriers MPD (5,1a) 1 Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Blacklace, 8 months b/t, reluctant to perform but showed moments of steadiness at times so I could assess his soundness, lovely to go over, very attractive head, keen eye, nice strength of muzzle for age, good bite, overall shape & balance good for age, very good hindquarters, well let down hocks, tail set bang on, in good coat. Do hope he makes size as at this moment can give the impression of a touch toyish. BP; 2 Newton’s Strathinver Spellbinder, lovely quality male, lovely head & eye, good strength of muzzle, correct length of neck, shoulders OK, good front, well bodied for age, moved well behind. Just preferred the overall balance of 1. Puppy who will do well; 3 Smith’s Javidel Come What May. PD (3) 1 Saltmarsh’s Pipridges Hot Basil, very mature male, strong in all departments, liked his head & expression, well proportioned head to muzzle, nice ear carriage, good neck & shoulders, well bodied for age, hindquarters OK which he used on the move, good texture of coat, handled well; 2 Newton’s Strathinver Simply Red, 6 month puppy giving lots away to 1, very similar to his brother in previous class but not so forward in body, all the right aspects in the right place for growing, went well for one so young. JD (5,1) 1 Dorkins’ Lowmita Sweet William, red male, a youngster you have to put your hands on to appreciate, has all the essentials required for a top winner, loved his head & expression with good strength of muzzle, nice ear tabs held correctly, good length of neck going into well laid back shoulders, very well bodied for age, short in loin, tail set on top, in very good order. Preferred CC winner for his overall finish but will certainly chase him. RCC; 2 Ruffles’ Ruffnor Kriss Kross, not as masculine as 1 but very well balanced all the way through, very attractive head with that nice keen eye, neck OK, well bodied for size & nice short coupling, tailset good with very well angulated quarters with good hocks. Would prefer a better shoulder as it affects his front gait on the move. Presented as I would expect from this lady. In good order; 3 Broom’s Roxway Twist And Shout. PGD (3) 1 Rayner’s Mstease Making Mayhem, b/t dog, pleasing to go over, has all the right essentials & of nice type, well balanced head with pleasing expression, good body, well muscled behind, in tip-top coat, went well; 2 Simpson’s Megalex Measure Twice, liked him a lot for his overall type & quality, good head & expression, good bone & feet, went well. Carried a bit too much weight which distracts from the overall picture; 3 Benney’s Wharfvalley Chianti. LD (7) Lovely quality class, had many contenders for 1st place but had to take their placings by splitting hairs. 1 Mitchell’s Roxway Direct Line, have admired for some time for his overall balance & type, lovely head & eye, good strength of muzzle with good size teeth & correct scissor bite, good length of neck carrying strength, shoulders OK, correct length of rib, short coupled, strong topline, tail set bang on top, very nice behind, never stopped showing, bang on for condition & presentation, handled extremely well. Do hope he will get his other two which will be well deserved. CC: 2 Stevenson’s Brickin Told You So, very raw youngster but lots of quality, beautiful head & expression, good neck & well laid shoulders, a tendency to be a bit rangy at the moment but when dropped in body & matures will certainly do well. Didn’t like the ring so much & have seen him in better coat. When settled moved with purpose; 3 Lloyd’s Orison Bootlace. OD (3,1) Two males standing in this class & both of different shape & make. 1 Jenkins’ Ch Kinsridge Top Dollar, won on his overall presentation & purposeful movement & topline, loved his head & strength of skull, good strength of muzzle with nice scissor bite, would like a slightly darker eye to give more expression, lovely neck & shoulders, would like more spring of rib. Short in loin, well angulated quarters, tailset good. Big enough & in the final line-up I went for the more correctly sized males. Think I would prefer to see him in a bit more coat to finish picture. Went well; 2 Mitchell’s Richell Contraband, could have won this class with ease for his overall type & shape, classic head & strength of muzzle, perfect scissor bite, nice ear tabs, good strength of neck, well laid shoulders & well bodied, short in loin, tailset good, well angulated quarters, lost to 1 on topline & animation. Moved sound, in good coat. MPB (3,1) 1 Jenkins’ Little Redhead at Kinsridge, 7 months bitch, very mature for age, good strength of skull & pretty expression, very good tail, well bodied, went well. Mustn’t grow anymore. Very outgoing; 2 Bettesworth’s Kapitada Blackberry, raw compared to 1, very short coupled, excellent coat & texture, well boned for size. Head needs to mature, ears are a bit erratic which spoils expression. Went well. PB (3,1) 1 Bettesworth’s Kapitada Blueberry, liked this puppy very much, very short coupled, pretty head & expression, very well bodied, super hindquarters, tailset set good, in lovely coat. A shade wide in front but overall nice quality; 2 Atkinson’s Moortop Shandy Choice, nice quality puppy, not as balanced as 1. Very pretty head & expression, nice head & shoulders, good strong quarters. Would like her a shade shorter in body for balance. Showed well on the day. JB (9,3) 1 Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Silk Petticoat, loved this little bitch for her overall quality & type, not overdone in anyway, balanced all the way through, good strength of skull & muzzle, beautiful dark eye & keen expression, neat ears, good neck with good straight front, liked her shoulders & ribbing, short loin, good strong well angulated quarters which she used on the move, in lovely coat. Really went well for her incapacitated handler. CC, won BOB on her pleasing type & steadiness on the move; 2 Stevenson’s Brickin Skip Away, I loved this little bitch for her overall quality & type. Again similar to 1 although not quite as good in front. Excellent quarters which she used to her advantage, never stopped showing, with a bit more coat could have pressed harder for the CC. RCC; 3 Hurrion’s Valentines Cherry Crumble. PGB (11,3) Wonderful class of bitches, again all close decisions & picking hairs. 1 Bettesworth’s Kapitada Daisychain, liked this little bitch for her overall shape & balance, good skull & proportions, would like a better shaped eye for a keener expression. Ears good, very well bodied & good substance for size, strong behind, in good coat. Went well considering the mishap of the handler, hope you are OK; 2 Chambers’ Rouletta Pink Lady Leaf, similar type to 1, overall pleasing head with good eye & expression, good neck & front, carrying a good frame, good strength of quarters, needs more weight to finish picture. Could be in better coat; 3 Green’s Wharfvalley Amber Nectar. LB (11,3) Best class of the day. Some outstanding bitches who had to go fruitless in awards. 1 Devereux’s Vichea Rambling Rose, a little bitch who surprised me until I had my hands on her & compared her to others. She fitted the Standard very well, good substance for size & shape, very pleasing head & expression, nice dark eye carrying the correct ear carriage, well proportioned neck & shoulders, good deep brisket with correct length of rib, tailset good, well angulated quarters which she used on the move, one who really went well & never gave up showing; 2 Wilding’s Zazmeer Zoodle, always loved this bitch for her overall type & shape, one who is now being noticed for her qualities, very similar to 1 for type & shape, beautiful head & expression, correct body & tailset. Wasn’t in her best bib & tucker so had to stand down from 1st place, showed really well, enjoyed going over her; 3 Claydon’s Brymarden Copper Kettle. OB (8,3) 1 Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Lucky Dice, pretty little red bitch, liked her overall type, size & shape, OK for bone for size, in very good order, well coupled, moved well. Would like more strength of muzzle to give a better expression; 2 Needham’s Am Ch Maxwell’s Red Ruby at Titanium, very showy little bitch, never stopped showing all the time. Another you have to put your hands on to appreciate. Has all the right proportions in the right places, very pretty head with that keen expression & nice shaped eye. Just preferred the overall body of 1 but not disgraced in this position. Nice quality, handled well; 3 Hitchens’ Brymardens Carmen for Kreatin. MARTIN PHILLIPS |
