NORFOLK WELKS 10 Judge(s) MR ALBERT WIGHT DCC JAEVA MIDAS TOUCH AT SALTARELLO (MRS B FRASER) Norfolk Terriers A rather difficult assignment as the size variation & length/height proportions vary enormously, as do head types, leg lengths & the degree of sound action. I had to give a lot of thought most of the time & some which I really liked just did not perform & paid the price. Coats varied, some pristine others had been harshly stripped or were changing coats so looked like the moths had been there! I enjoyed my day & the ringside were a delight. MPD (4) 1 RCC, Atkinson’s Wharfvalley Diamond Bright at Moortop, this fellow is up to size but hopefully has finished growing. Head is lovely, all male, excellent eyes, ears & muzzle, well ribbed & bodied, straight forelegs, one of the best movers of the day, in excellent bloom, he never stopped showing & earned his reward; 2 Green’s Wharfvalley Diamond Star, see is litter brother to 1 & he will be preferred by others as he is the better size & is that tad shorter in loin. I gave the nod to Diamond as for me he has the better eye shape & on the go around he definitely had the more forceful hind action. Otherwise he is a very smart dog & their sister won PB; 3 Devereux’s Vichea Pick Pocket. PD (5) 1 Stevenson’s Brickin Extra Smart, I was impressed by this b/t as he is so well put together, quite compact with a lovely spring of rib, level in backline & well set tail, nice head planes, dark eyes, well coated. Didn’t put all in when moving, weaving badly coming towards me & in profile he never extended as well as construction inferred he would; 2 Jenkins’ Kinsridge Top Gun, very smart red whose ears are a bit unsettled which detract from his expression. Handles so well on the table, excels in neck & ribcage. Needs to settle in front action, side on he pleases & I feel he could finish very well; 3 Philip’s Jaeva Well I Be Darned at Nordalset. JD (2) 1 Gullick & Oliver’s Jaeva Roger The Butler, compact, well coated & presented, excellent spring of rib, level back. Bit steep in upper arm & he paddles a bit in front when moving, would like to see him extend more in profile; 2 Simpson’s Umbrage Longton cum Megalux, a bit up on the leg exaggerated by his being out of coat. Pleasing head, very good eyes & expression, he certainly can motor around the ring. PGD (3,1a) 1 Smith’s Javidel Come What May, solid, chunky bodied red, scoring in reach of neck & firm backline, pleasing head, nice eye shape & colour. Spoils his chances on the move where he is so extrovert that he loses his shape. A character; 2 Thompson-Morgan’s Bellville Angelo, another who pleased me on the table with his lovely eyes & ears combining to give a good expression, backline level, good tail, lovely bend of stifle. While 1 could have been on rocket fuel, this chap was almost lethargic & lacked any real drive. LD (5,1) 1 CC & BOB, Fraser’s Jaeva Midas Touch at Saltarello, red who was superbly presented & he looked the part from the word go, head is lovely, excellent foreface, neat ears, bright eyes, nice arch to his neck, well ribbed, good bone & feet, his jacket was flawless in presentation, sound in action he still impressed me in the challenge & I was thrilled at the reception that greeted his first CC; 2 Stevenson’s Penmire Wild Bramble by Brickin, all male in outlook & really quite an impressive dog, good head, decent reach of neck, firm backline, shows good hock thrust in profile. Preferred the front of 1 compounded by this fellow having a penchant for leaning towards his handler when coming towards me. If settled, he could win the day; 3 Philips’ Hey Smart Lookin at Nordalset. OD (5,1) 1 Thompson-Morgan’s Bellvile Blacklace b/t, certainly compact & well bodied. Not a big chap but all male in outlook, eyes & expression. Just about enough weight of bone for his size, stylish as he moves around the ring, keen expression; 2 Mitchell’s Roxway Direct Line, red, bit on the leg. Lots of substance, well ribbed. Lacking in bend of stifle & his hocks could be firmer when hind action viewed. Good reach of neck, level back & fairly compact; 3 Lloyd’s Orison Bootlace. MPB (9,2) 1 Wharfvalley Diamond Diva, stood out in this class of babies as she was the most accomplished in ring deportment, has self belief & shows extremely well, lovely size, compact & sturdy, pleasing head, so alive in expression. Not nearly so advanced as her brother but given time I’m sure she will win very well; 2 Phillips’ Blakens Toffee Kisses, this b/t is so very pretty in head & expression, decent spring & depth of rib, lovely feet, good topline. Shows a positive stride in profile but needs to settle in front; 3 Devereux’s Vichea Heavens Sent. PB (7,1) 1 Hutchen’s Kreaqtin Kiss N Tell, won her on her smoothest action, nice for size, well boned, head coming along well, she is blessed with dark, well shaped eyes, in good coat, shows promise; 2 Phillips’ Vision Express at Blakens, appealed initially as she is more compact than 1, liked her head shape, the width in skull, good ears. Eyes a little on the round side, wish she had more shoulder angulation as although she has plenty of rear thrust, she lifts her forelegs somewhat in profile action; 3 Moore’s Rainbows End at Bannings. JB (12,4) 1 CC, Devereux’s Vichea Dot And Carry, liked this red bitch the moment she came into this good class, has style, shapely, beautiful head with delightful expression, well bodied, in full coat which was immaculate in presentation, moved out soundly. Believe winning her first CC & surely she will go on to be crowned; 2 Phillips’ Blakens Party Popper, this nice red bitch was one of those which showed an exaggerated lift of her forelegs which told against her. Otherwise I liked her lots, good size, sturdy in body, excellent bend of stifle, firm hocks, uses her neck well in stance & her backline is firm; 3 Mitchell’s Richell Show Off. PGB (9,1) 1 Hitchen & Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville China Lace, certainly low to ground with such a good spring of rib, just about enough reach of neck, compact in body, ample bend of stifle & light side action, pleasing head, shows well; 2 Howward’s Hatchwoods Flamenco, longer cast than Lace, nice head balance, good reach of neck, enough fore angulation but lacks bend of stifle. In good coat, looked alright side on in action, but she was another wayward when fore viewed; 3 Gee’s Watercroft Mayfair Lady. LB (6) 1 Hurrion’s Valentines Cherry Bramble, very well put together, nice size & substance, neat ears, well shaped eyes, steady in action & she does show so responsively; 2 Stevenson’s Brickin Skip Away, liked this bitch a lot & was my initial winner. Shapely, so feminine in head & expression, has an air of quality, has ample bone, well coated. On the move she persisted in leaning harshly across her handler so that she was sidewinding. I tried her a couple of times & still found it impossible to asses her front action sufficiently well to topple the winner. A shame as she has an air of real quality; 3 Fraser, Phillips & Fraser’s Jaeva Smart Cookie. OB (5,1) 1 RCC, Phillips & Jones’ Jaeva Bag Of Tricks, beautifully headed deep red in full coat & looking the part, big ribs, quite compact, well boned, good legs & feet, just enough angulation. Must be a nightmare to show as she fidgets non stop. In the run off for the CC her action was a little unenthusiastic which swung the favour to the JB. Another which, on her day, could become a ch; 2 Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Intuition, best mover in the class. Not quite the skull width but very good eyes & ears. Between coats which was made to look more apparent by Tricks being pristine. A delight to watch moving so well; 3 Matell’s Cracknor Custom Made. |
