NORFOLK SOUTH WALES 15 Judge(s): DOT BRITTEN Norfolk Terriers It was as always a pleasure to judge the Norfolk Terriers & thank you to all the exhibitors who made the journey to the depths of Wales on this chilly morning. I had a number of quality exhibits to go over & my main winners were top drawer. PD (2,1a) 1 Ward & Hamar’s Gorden’s Boy, 10 month old puppy who moved confidently round the ring & behaved very well. Well done to his handler who confessed she was a novice. Pleasant head with big teeth. Rather rangy in build & looking high on leg but this was not helped by the fact that he was in very short coat with little to no furnishings. As you will see, he reappeared in every class, so he certainly got in some practice. JD (3) 1 Gee’s Watercroft Coin A Phrase, a smart b/t moving out well in profile. Very masculine & generally well put together. Pleasing head & good bite. He impressed with his well placed shoulders & clean neck line. Strong body & excellent tail, well set & straight; 2 Atkinson’s Moortops Marks Delivery, an attractive puppy of good type. Excellent red coat in good condition. Strong head & well proportioned. Moved well. Heavier in shoulder than 1 & not as good in front movement; 3 Gorden’s Boy. PGD (1) 1 Gorden’s Boy. LD (3) 1 Jenkins’ Kinsridge Back Chat, strong mover & wilful, but when settled he had a perfect gait, stretching & driving. Strong, masculine head, excellent bite & keen expression. Excellent neck & shoulder running into short back with good body & substance. Well angulated quarters with good bone. Still feel this young dog has his best yet to come, still some maturing to do but deserved the RCC; 2 Atkinson’s Blakens I Look To You, very good headed dog with excellent ears, just the right expression, keen & alert without being sharp. Short in back & an excellent tail. He showed very well but not as free moving as 1; 3 Gorden’s Boy. OD (2) 1 Phillips’ Ch Blakens Pay Back, I have seen this dog many times from the ringside & today I thought he was top notch & absolutely in his prime. He has the most beautiful head, broad skull, ears well placed & carried, well made up under eyes with strong muzzle & good bite. Strong neck running into well placed shoulders & short back, well set tail. Put down to perfection & in great condition. Profile movement is good & he powers from behind. To be critical would like him more positive in front movement, but that is just one fault. CC; 2 Gorden’s Boy. PB (7,2) 1 Gee’s Watercroft Pop Picker, very mature in body for her age & moved & showed well. Excellent head & expression, good eye & very good for type. Strong coat & texture & in good condition. Good bone. Accomplished for one so young. To be critical would prefer a better tail. BP; 2 Phillip’s Blakens Tootie Frootie, another promising puppy in good coat & condition. Head is yet to come but is well made with good bite. Preferred the shoulder placement of 1 but again with maturity this may well improve. She moved well; 3 Philip’s Nordalset Chase The Storm. JB (5,2) 1 Gullick & Tate’s Jaeva Hells Fire, very feminine bitch in great coat & condition. Loved her typical head & expression & dark eye. Short in the back & well set tail. She was absolutely on form today & moved assertively & well. It was this movement that secured her the RCC in the challenge; 2 Stevenson’s Brickin Simplicity, still very immature & in very short, new coat that accentuated this. One who definitely needs time. However she was pleasing to go over & had an excellent tail & tailset; 3 Owen’s Brickin Happy Dance. PGB (7,3) 1 Philip’s Nordalset Sunny Skies, mature bodied bitch who was in very good coat & condition. Good type with pleasing head & expression. Another good tail; 2 Atkinson’s Moortop Just The One, finer bitch than 1 who was very good on the move. Very good head & expression. Overall would just have liked more of her; 3 Hamar’s Lagdenfarm Quite A Gal. LB (5) 1 Devereux’s Vichea Little Gem, very neat, quality bitch, in good coat & condition. Well put together, with good head & short back & excellent short tail. Moved & showed well; 2 Stevenson’s Brickin Surprise Surprise, unlike the younger one from this kennel, this girl was carrying a very heavy coat that obscured her outline. Pleasing to go over & had a very strong head; 3 L Quite A Gal. OB (4) 1 Jenkins’ Ch Kinsridge Top Tip, not much that this bitch has not achieved & you can see why when you go over her. She is so well constructed. Feminine head with super expression. Good reach of neck running into clean, well laid shoulders, short back & excellent tail & tailset, well muscled hindquarters. Put this construction with her incredible attitude & you have a superb showgirl. Her outline standing is tip top & her movement a delight. CC & BOB; 2 Gee’s Ch Watercroft Top Tia, one I have admired during her career from the ringside. This kennel has produced Norfolks that have been consistently good type with great heads & expression. I have seen her look better & in her prime, I think she presented a better outline. She lost out in the challenge by not having sufficient drive from behind; 3 L Quite A Gal. VB (1) 1 Owens’ Penmire Lilac, spritely 9 year old who clearly enjoyed being in the ring. In good coat & condition, moved well; 2 Owens’ Brickin Happy Dance, really enjoyed herself on the move, putting on a smart performance. Good coat & condition. DOROTHY BRITTEN |
