The Norfolk Terrier Club of GB Championship Show

The Norfolk Terrier Club of GB held a ch show where BIS was Blakens Xpress Yourself; RBIS, Watercroft Top Of The Pops; & BP, Watercroft Diamond Dealer.

It was such an honour to judge this club ch show, but there was also the sadness of knowing that it should have been Elisabeth Matell & I was very aware of this as I drove to the show. In fact it was at the club show in 1996 that Elisabeth made up my first champion. So things had come full circle.

Mouths & bites have improved greatly & I didn’t have one Norfolk who couldn’t shut its mouth properly, that was a prevalent fault in the past. This is without doubt due to breeders being ruthless with their breeding selection. Strangely, I think hind action has improved somewhat, but not so with fronts. There are some good tails in the breed now, well set & held fairly straight. Temperaments were excellent on the day.

MPD (4)

1 Phillips’ Jaeva Go for Broke, well balanced puppy, happy & outgoing, well put together, short back & good tail, moved well though still a little loose in front, however plenty of time ahead for this to improve;

2 Phillips’ Blakens Sugar Candy Dips, attractive puppy in good coat & moving out well. I felt he lacked the reach of neck of 1 & not so well placed in shoulder, however there is still growing time;

3 Gee’s Watercroft In A Pickle.

PD (3)

1 Gee’s Watercroft Diamond Dealer, I loved this puppy for his type, well balanced & well made all through, good bone & substance, broad skull & neat ears, in great coat & condition, moved very well. BP;

2 Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Take Note, still very raw but well proportioned & with a pleasing head & expression, excelled in his front movement & was sound behind, looked good in profile;

3 Craddock & Collins’ Fontanesi Diamond Geezer.

JD (3)

1 Phillips’ Blakens The Kandy Man Kan, most attractive junior, broad head & strong muzzle, excellent mouth, short back & well balanced, good to watch on the move;

2 Phillips, Gullick & Tate’s Jaeva Cufflink, quality junior, excellent neck & shoulder that showed in his true front movement, liked his head & expression. Still developing & needing to deepen in chest;

3 List’s Nicnips Dirty Harry.

ND (2)

1 Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Seduction, good reach of neck & well placed, clean shoulders, good bone & substance on this b/t, moved well in front & gave good profile movement. Still has a way to go in maturity;

2 Ellis’ Brymarden Snow Patrol, pleasing head & expression. Not the layback of shoulder of 1 & not putting in effort on the move, so no stretch & drive.

PGD (4)

1 Darnell’s Jacquidon Tough As A Nut, what a beautiful head & expression & excellent mouth, moved very soundly. Just like me, he would look so much better a couple of sizes smaller, however you cannot deny his quality & balance;

2 Haynes’ Cracknor Cut A Caper, strong head & plenty of substance. Would look better with a little more furnishings, not so well balanced as 1, being longer cast;

3 Sant’s Nordalset Look To The Future.

LD (5)

1 Phillips, Craddock & Collins’ Fontanesi Golden Chalice with Jaeva, very well constructed with good bone & substance, very well balanced & of good size, really liked his head & expression, wilful on the move but showing stretch & drive. RCC;

2 Ackling’s Ruby Reuben, very good make & shape & little to fault on construction & movement. However he didn’t have quite the bone, substance & consequently the masculinity of 1.

OD (7)

An excellent class.

1 Phillip’s Blakens Xpress Yourself, I loved his type, in beautiful condition & coat & did not put a foot wrong, of all places, the club show is where you are really looking for type & he had it here, great head & expression, well laid shoulder & short back, well balanced throughout with excellent tail held erect. CC & BIS;

2 Phillips, Gullick & Wilding’s Ch Jaeva Made In Gold, a dog I have much admired from the ringside, is an upstanding dog, masculine with excellent bone & substance, moves out very soundly & was one of the best movers of the day. Sadly he was in very close coat, not just on his body but also on the sides of his head & other furnishings, of course this doesn’t take away his main qualities but it did take away from his type on the day;

3 Newton’s Strathinver Smart Enough.

VD (1)

1 Howard’s Hatchwoods Flash Gordon, 9 years masculine dog with great head, well bodied & in good coat, moved well round the ring & was especially attentive to his handler.

BD (1)

1 B Snow Patrol.

MPB (4)

1 Jenkins’ Brenin Picture Portrait for Kinsridge, feminine puppy, good layback of shoulder & short in back, moved very soundly & with confidence;

2 Phillips’ Jaeva Keeping Secrets, finer than 1 in bone & still very immature but also very feminine, gained confidence in movement as the class progressed;

3 Wellstead’s Ragnolds Tawari.

PB (5)

1 Stevenson’s Brickin Wild Ivy, a puppy with good type & good substance, broad skull & dark eye, well laid shoulders, strong quarters that she used well on the move;

2 Gee’s Watercroft Hot Diamond, a quality puppy, still very immature & needs time, sound on the move;

3 Wellstead’s Ragnolds Orange Blossom.

JB (6)

1 Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Just Magic, very eyecatching, well made all through, good head, bone & substance without losing femininity, her sound construction showed in her free movement. RCC;

2 Phillips’ Blakens Sugar Candy Kisses, a quality bitch of lovely type, excelled in head & great tail. Just lost her topline at times & was not quite as free on the move as 1;

3 Atkinson’s Moortop Again No Choice.

NB (3)

1 Hess & Higgins’ Umbrage The Jubilant, strongly made bitch, good neck & well placed shoulders, moved well, excellent tail;

2 Devereux’s Dora The Explora, still very immature & lacking substance, however she had a well shaped head & good expression. Lacks confidence in the ring;

3 Macartney’s Nordalset Little Bit Of Sun, well grown b/t, pleasing head & expression, moved OK. Not in his best bib & tucker.

UGB (2)

1 Smith’s Javidel Definitely Maybe, good type with strong head & short back, b/t in excellent coat & condition, presents a good outline standing & on the move;

2 Howard’s Hatchwoods Last Tango, beautifully constructed, carrying a bit too much weight but lovely type. Good coat texture & wonderful tail.

PGB (7)

1 New’s Raven Beauty, showed well for her handler & a fair shape, good tail;

2 Darnell’s Watercroft Cherry On Top, very nice head & dark eye. Unfortunately did not give the best of herself as she lacked confidence.

LB (2)

This class was like a rock & a hard place, what one had the other hadn’t & vice versa, making the placings almost impossible.

1 Hatchwood’s Flamenco, a bitch with great substance & bone & deep bodied, carrying rather too much weight which made her look overdone, however a very good mover & one who concentrates on what she is doing & is tuned in with her handler;

2 Ruffles’ Ruffnor Offbeat, well balanced, very feminine with lovely head & expression, however she was lacking coat & needed weight which made her look high on the leg & lacking depth of body.

OB (3)

1 Gee’s Watercroft Top Of The Pops, really lovely bitch with excellent type & construction, good reach of neck, broad skull & well balanced body, looks mature & at her prime, moved very well. CC & RBIS;

2 Devereux’s Vichea Easter Lily, keen expression & typy with short back & well constructed. Lacks some confidence which stops her flow on the move, think this is coming down the lead from the handler.

VB (5)

1 Atkinson’s Ch Hobsons Choice at Moortop, 10 years & full of beans, she moved really well & presented a good profile, still in good coat & colour. BV;

2 Philip’s Nordalset Winter Woolies, pleasing head & short in back, did not make life easy for her handler.

BB (2)

1 N Little Bit Of Sun.
