I enjoyed judging this quality entry once I got started, though it seemed to be a very long anxious morning waiting to have the ring! I was delighted with the majority of the Norfolks, especially my lovely winners There was only one truly incorrect bite but I did find some of the youngsters had somewhat tight bites with the top incisors barely over the lower ones, I just hope that these all go the right way in the end. There were a few with a missing incisor but as long as the teeth were in line I didn’t penalise. Both challenge line ups were a pleasure to see, happy typical sound moving Norfolks with good depth of quality to choose from. Thank you for allowing me to judge your dogs.
Veteran – Dog (9 – 2)
what an amazing class I couldn’t believe it when told I had 9 VD’s entered!
1st MITCHELL’s CH ROXWAY DIRECT LINE: 7yrs old, easy winner outshone the rest but then he was the youngest & is only just eligible! Ideal size (probably of all the class winners actually). Extremely pleased to have him there to go over again since I last did a few years ago, he appealed to me. Very good breed type, in excellent neatly presented short harsh jacket. Short back, firm cobby body, very good hindquarters, ok in front, true & even movement but not quite the stride of the top winners. Nice head, sharp eyed expression. Very worthy champion.
2nd MARK’s INT/NL/LUX/BEL/GER CH MARKS THEODOR: 8 ½ yrs, I chose him as the next best in type, being short, cobby & correct size. Many of the others tended to be bit bigger & rangier. Lovely head of good shape & proportions, good bone & front construction but not quite so strong in the rear. Very attractive overall & a good pattern to follow. Excellent showman, well handled & presented.
3rd HOWARD’s HATCHWOODS FLASH GORDON: 10yrs, size larger & lacking top coat but extremely soundly constructed & moves well – better than the others. Typical head & expression, broad skull, good stop, strong muzzle; firm bone, straight front, strides out well, driving from well-shaped hindquarters. Bit longer cast but good length deep ribcage & level topline; well covered body but not overweight despite being MN.
Special Puppy – Dog (4 -2)
splitting hairs to divide this very similar quality pair, both about 12mths old;
1st GEE’s WATERCROFT IN A PICKLE: appealed to me even more than I realised until the challenge when gave RCC! Excellent breed type, stylish happy showman. Head very good & mature for age correct shaped skull, deep stop, good muzzle, nice small dark eyed expression. Good straight front, shoulders bit more layback than 2nd. Good well ribbed body, level topline, strong hindquarters of correct construction; moved very well striding out in front with free tracking rear propulsion. BP (Crufts age!) + RCC.
2nd ATKINSON’s BLAKENS SUGAR CANDY DIPS: equally good youngster with excellent head & super expression, lovely broad slightly curved skull & strong muzzle of medium length in proportion to skull (perhaps better than 1st) Good bone, straight front, shoulder ok (1st a little better); very short back, moved with drive from strong well angulated hind legs. Decision could have been either way but 1st looked better balanced today.
Special Junior – Dog (2 -0)
very close decision between 2 handsome youngsters;
1st GEE’s WATERCROFT DIAMOND DEALER: lovely head & expression, good proportions & strong jaw. Good coat, very smart; nice overall outline, correct length neck & shoulder layback, straight well boned front legs, short back & strong hindquarters, well-turned stifles & low set hocks, moved very fluently. Spot on coat condition just won him the class but hard decision as both lovely dogs.
2nd PHILLIPS, GULLICK & TATE’s JAEVA CUFFLINK: soundly made, very typical shape, good strong head, broad skull, good stop, firm muzzle, expressive dark eyes. Short backed well ribbed cobby body, not quite so good in shoulders but excellent hindquarters moving with great drive. Good bone & substance, maturing well. His good textured coat is just starting to go & I slightly preferred head length proportions of 1st.
Post Graduate – Dog (5 -3)
1st THOMPSON-MORGAN’s BELLEVILLE ROLL CALL: better type of head & expression having shorter muzzle of correct length proportion to skull which is maturing in width, correct darker eye. Presented well in excellent coat. Short back, cobby with good length ribs; well constructed hindquarters giving good drive behind though not as collected in front, even though has good neck & well laid back shoulders. Not ready yet & appears a bit high on leg at present, but I liked him a lot.
2nd SANT’s NORDALSET LOOK TO THE FUTURE: nice quality dog, more mature but less balanced on the move. Strong head, broad skull but bit longer in muzzle, & would prefer darker eyes. Good bone, front ok, short back, deep ribs, well angulated hind legs but hocks could be lower set to give more even stride.

Good class of different types, first 2 very close;
1st PHILLIPS’ BLAKENS THE KANDY MAN KAN: lovely dog extremely close for rcc , but the youngster’s charm won the day! Super head qualities clinched 1st place, most appealing expression, broad strong skull & firm muzzle. Correct length neck, well laid back shoulders, straight well boned front legs; short back, level topline, well ribbed cobby body, typical outline moving smoothly with reach & drive. Excellent hindquarters & coat, super quality dog of equal merit to CC winner, & final decisions really splitting hairs!
2nd JENKINS’ KINSRIDGE QUIDS IN: another one of cc quality, just slightly preferred the head of 1st , but is typical with good eyes. Very short backed cobby body, deep ribs, level topline, very well angulated strong hindquarters & low set hocks giving good drive. Well boned front legs but would prefer a little more neck & layback of shoulders. Stylish showman in tip top coat & condition.
3rd ACKLING’s RUBY RUEBEN: very similar quality to above but a little less bone. Super head & expression, broad enough skull, good stop & muzzle, small dark correctly shaped eyes, typical expression. Short backed well ribbed body, excellent hindquarters with good drive. Front construction ok & moves out well. Rather a pretty boy!
Open – Dog (7 -1)
Lovely class, first 3 very close, correct size & showing well;
1st THOMPSON-MORGAN’s BELLEVILLE SEDUCTION: loved this dog as soon as he went around the ring; examined as well as he promised & realised I’d found a star that would be hard to beat! Handsome, cobby b/t; excellent head & dark eyed expression, broad skull, good stop, strong muzzle of good proportions. Well-constructed fore & aft angulation, good bone, firm straight front legs, strode out well & good rear drive. Short back, deep long ribs, typical outline, most attractive picture. CC&BOB & very pleased he made shortlist in group; he reminds me very much of my BOB last time I judged Ch.B.Black Lace & found out he’s his grandfather!
2nd NEWTON’s STRATHINVER SMART ENOUGH: very sound true mover, as good as above & better than the rest. He didn’t immediately impress but performed well & hands on revealed a very typical dog of correct construction. Correct head of good proportions & strength, typical expression, nice dark eyes of correct shape. Good neck, shoulders & straight front legs with enough bone; excellent well angulated hindquarters giving good drive from low set hocks. Mature well ribbed body, level topline but not quite as compact or the finish of 1st. Lovely dog & considered him highly for reserve ticket, won by his son!
3rd JENKINS’ KINSRIDGE CASH BACK: very nice type, short compact dog, very good true tracking movement which won his place over the rest, completing a great trio. Typical correctly shaped head of good strength but his eyes & expression didn’t appeal as much. Strong bone, straight front, but shoulders not quite as good as above pair, short backed well ribbed cobby body; excellent well angulated hindquarters, low hocks; beautifully presented in good coat.

very happy showgirls of differing sizes;
1st ATKINSON’s CH HOBSONS CHOICE AT MOORTOP: 10 ½ Easy winner & delighted to judge her. Super quality, still a champion through & through (despite some veterinary extracted teeth!) Very soundly constructed all through; excellent front, neck & shoulders; firm bone. Very typical head of correct shape & alert expression. Short level back; deep long ribcage; very well angulated & muscled hindquarters; balanced steady mover with plenty of reach & drive & true tracking. Looked good in the line up, so full of true breed type & character & good coat texture.
2nd SMALLRIDGE & BRAZIER’s IRE CH CRACKNOR CUTTING EDGE: 7 ½ Very appealing & lovely correct shaped head & super expression – so typical & alert, dark eyes. Excellent bone & substance, deep long ribs & cobby body, short enough in back. Not quite as good in front as 1st but still covered the ground well & excellent hindquarters with good propulsion. Very good overall breed type, but coat not quite as good today. Very happy quality showgirl who would make her breeder proud.
3rd RUFFLES’ RUFFNOR SECRET WISH; 8 ¾ , very very appealing though different narrower type. Sweet head, strong muzzle & typical expression, lovely small dark eyes. Nice straight front, shoulders not quite so good & bit finer boned. Quite short back & good body; well bent stifles but hocks a little high; moves straight & true but not as much reach & drive as above. Full of charm & showed steadily.
Special Puppy – Bitch (4 -0)

1st STEVENSON’s BRICKIN SURPRISE SURPRISE: I loved this exuberant young lady, full of charm & promise at 11mths. Excellent head, well developed for age with strength in skull & muzzle & good stop, small, very dark eyes, cheeky expression! Soundly constructed front & rear with correct angles throughout. Nice straight well boned front legs, moved soundly & freely with good reach & drive though a bit too lively to trot to start with, ok when changed sides! Good textured thick coat. Very pleasingly balanced, of excellent type & size.
2nd THOMPSON-MORGAN’s BELLEVILLE CALL OF THE WILD: Very pretty girl with smaller head but has correct proportions & nice small dark eyes with typical expression. Good bone & lovely straight front & ok in shoulders. Short back, long ribcage, strong hind leg angulation & low set hocks, moved extremely well free flowing& true front & rear, with good reach & drive. Just not quite as confident & more immature than 1st. Delightful & very promising.
3rd PHILLIPS, GULLICK & TATE’s JAEVA PLAY THE ACE: eye-catching though somewhat different in type as appears a little higher on the legs as body immature in depth at present. Sound well boned construction, moving very freely & confidently, if a bit high stepping at times. Beautiful head, broad enough in skull of correct shape & proportions to firm muzzle & deep stop. Very attractive alert expression from small dark eyes. Straight front though just not quite as good in shoulder as above 2; but extremely good hindquarter construction & low driving hocks. Short level back, with good length ribcage; perfect coat texture & presentation. I see her dam is one I liked as a youngster & indeed she reminds me very much of her.
Special Junior – Bitch (5 -1)
three very similar promising youngsters, the 4th more old fashioned “working” type of looks.
1st GEE’s WATERCROFT HOT DIAMONDS: lovely balanced quality bitch, with beautiful head & expression, small dark eyes. Neck of correct length, shoulders nicely laid back flowing into level topline & short back. Deep long ribcage; firm bone; strong hindquarters of good shape with low set hocks & good drive. Moved extremely well front & rear, viewed from all angles. Good coat texture in excellent condition, won the class on style & overall good make & shape.
2nd JENKINS’ STRATHIVER ROSES ARE RED AT KINSRIDGE: very similar but a bit finer & smaller head which is of correct shape & proportions; small dark eyed bright expression. Good construction with particularly well made hindquarters, moving with drive. Short back & good length ribcage. Very appealing overall, with extremely good coat & presentation.
3rd STEVENSON’s BRICKIN WILD IVY: super bitch who didn’t settle as the noise disturbed her & made her a bit flighty. Lovely typical strong head & delightful expression; good neck & shoulders, straight well boned front legs; cobby body with short back; strong well-muscled & angulated hindquarters which looked good in profile moving with drive but erratic up & down as bothered. Hope she can show her true colours in different setting.
Post Graduate – Bitch (12 -2)
big class of mixed qualities, quite hard to judge;
1st HURRION’s VILLASSA ALL MY HEART: easy winner, very glad to find her! Most attractive, sound moving & typical; lovely head of good strength & proportions & typical expression. Correct length neck & shoulder placement, ok in front & bone. Excellent coat quality & presentation; short back, deep body, would prefer bit longer ribcage; excellent hindquarters well angled & muscled stifles, low set hocks propel her smoothly with good drive. Looked fantastic here but sadly in the challenge with different handler was not quite so animated & eye catching.
2nd BETTESWORTH’s KAPITADA WHOOPS A DAISY: appealed for type & head, very nice quality throughout. Attractive expression, correctly shaped head & eyes, short backed cobby body, good bone, Shoulders a little steep, but straight forelegs; good hindquarters. Moved confidently & steadily but less drive & not as free striding as above. Coat texture & presentation very good. Smart little showgirl.
3rd MACARTNEY’s NORDALSET LITTLE BIT OF SUN: loved this appealing b/t just not quite as balanced or collected in movement as 2 above. Full of quality & type, lovely head & bright eyed expression. Excellent bone & substance, ok in front though moved a little wide (appearance could be helped with bit less hair on sides of elbows); very well constructed rear & has good drive. Very promising & lots of charm.
Limit – Bitch (9 -2)
difficult class to sort out, type, size, movement & presentation very variable!;
1st SMITH’s JAVIDEL DEFINITELY MAYBE: b/t easy winner in the end, being the soundest, best balanced & smartest showgirl of the lot. Bit finer & leggier than I would prefer but her many attributes swayed my decision. Good shape though smallish head, correct proportions width & length of skull & muzzle in keeping with her body. Small dark eyes; sweet typical expression. Good neck, shoulders & front; short level back. Excellently constructed hindquarters propel her smoothly & freely. Presents a most attractive picture.
2nd BETTESWORTH’s KAPITADA SWEETNESS'N LIGHT: balanced lovely type, short & cobby, quality bitch, move ok when settles briefly but very difficult to assess properly being lively (ok!) & a bit naughty! Good head fits the standard in make & shape, typical appealing expression. Good shoulders, front & bone, well ribbed body & strong well-muscled hindquarters which propel her happily around the ring. Very well presented in good quality coat. Well worth persevering with some training so she doesn’t throw away her chances!
3rd NEW’s RAVEN BEAUTY: very attractive b/t presented in excellent shiny, coat, neat & tidy, showing steadily & happily, very well handled. Lovely breed type overall, beautiful head of correct shape, typical expression, small dark eyes. Ok in neck, shoulders & front, with enough bone; well-muscled hindquarters but would prefer bit more angulation, not quite the drive of 2 above. Cobby well ribbed body.
Open – Bitch (6 -1)
class of quality;
1st HURRION’s CH VILLASSA CHERRY RIPPLE: caught my eye as soon as she came in & knew she was my winner straight away on the table! Matched the dog CC so well in type, size & shape; a great pair. Very well balanced, super head, most appealing alert expression, bright small, dark eyes. Front, neck & shoulders all good; short level back, mature fit well ribbed body. Excellent hindquarters, well-muscled bent stifles, low hocks, good propulsion & drive. True mover in all directions, looked great going around, in excellent coat of good texture. Very pleasing to find she’s the daughter of my previous CC winner! CC – well deserved.
2nd PHILLIPS’ CH BLAKENS SUGAR CANDY KISSES: very close between 2 & 3 decided on final run around, preferring her better neck line flowing into correctly laid back shoulders, giving more reach. Head of excellent type, nice broad curved skull, good stop, strong muzzle similar to both 1 & 3, but preferred the CC winner’s smaller eyes. Short level back, cobby well ribbed body, good hindquarters. Quality bitch who well deserved RCC.
3rd GEE’s WATERCROFT TOP OF THE POPS: completed lovely trio, another of CC quality! Has all the qualities stated above, but a bit more neck & better shoulder placement is desirable. Very true to type in all ways, head, body, legs & coat. Excellent showgirl never gave up & looked as if she could run all day! In super coat & presentation as were all those with this exhibitor.
Good Citizen Dog Scheme – Bitch (4 -0)
tricky class of 2 distinct types, 2 of each!;
1st RUFFLES’ RUFFNOR OFFBEAT: 5yrs won on soundest construction & movement; very appealing though leggier type than I prefer. Lovely head & dark eyed expression, well-shaped skull & muzzle firm of correct proportions & good stop. Deep well ribbed body short enough in back & level topline. Showed & moved extremely well with good reach & drive, sound & true – the best in class. Good texture neat & tidy coat. (was placed 5th in open). Very similar looks to the veteran placed 3rd.
2nd HOWARD’s HATCHWOODS FLAMENCO; 6yrs squarer cobbier build than above, happy showgirl pleasant & typical. Good head, typical expression ; good bone; excellent deep long ribcage, short enough in back. Construction less angulated than above thus moved with less freedom. Coat not at it’s best!
3rd R. SECRET WISH; 3rd in veteran, beat the younger one placed 4th on bite & movement.
