NORFOLK JUDGE CRUFTS 11

Norfolk Terriers
Judging at Crufts is always a special moment. I thank the committee for inviting me, especially when one of them is special to me. However, being third in the ring & with one of the first judges in the ring being slow & was then forced to hurry & in some ways spoilt my day. So I hope you will forgive me for the shortness of this report. I felt I needed to give the dogs the time.

I was pleased with the overall quality. I was looking for a dog with spirit & character & those who I felt could do the job they were intended for. I was concerned with the number of poor heads & weak muzzles. Not a feature expected of a working pack terrier.

VD (4)

1 Ruffles’ Ch Ruffnor Secret Tipple, red dog, looked in great coat & condition, lovely head & eye, small ears, sound both ways, superbly presented;

2 Owens’ Hoathnor Jackanory, really enjoying his day out, good neck & shoulder, excellent topline, very good expression, good bone & feet, well presented;

3 Smith’s Richell Cognac Diamond, red, not as collected on the move as 1 & 2 but nice to go over, good bone, excellent topline.

PD (4)

1 Dorkins’ Lowmita Cinnamon, just a baby but so full of style & character, in tight coat but of a good texture. Played about a bit on the move but he is a puppy & something I like to see. Lovely head without the cutie look, must have a great future. I was told he was Nanfan breeding & I am sure Joy would be proud of him. BP;

2 Gee’s Watercroft Hot News, b/t, such a nice boy, masculine in head, strong jaw, excellent mouth, good front, good bone, excellent topline & tailset. Just lacks a bit of forward reach;

3 Haynes’ Cracknor Cut A Caper, slightly different type to 1 & 2. Bit longer in body than the winners. Smart boy, in good coat, moved out well.

JD (5,1)

1 Lloyd & Chapman’s Douramay The Bisto Kid, smart little dog, not big but well put together, sound both ways, super coat which was well presented;

2 Devereux’s Vichea Pick Pocket, b/t, very outgoing. Not quite together on the move as 1. Excellent coat texture, good front & feet, nice head & eye, neat ears;

3 Wilding’s Zazmeer Jokers Wild, b/t, heavier in type than 1 & 2. Good neck & shoulder. Coat could be a little harsher but well handled & presented.

PGD (6,2)

1 Atkinson’s Wharfvalley Diamond Bright at Moortop, rich red, in super coat & body condition, very sound, I really liked his head & expression, dark eye & true expression, good bone, excellent presentation;

2 Mounfield’s Arderry Sky Rocket, such a close decision between 1 & 2, smart dog, typical Norfolk head & expression, good topline. Coat was just at its best on the day;

3 Simpson’s Umbrage Longton cum Megalex, good neck & shoulders, good topline. Not quite reach of neck I was looking for. Sound both ways, well balanced head & neat small ears.

LD (7)

1 Matell’s Cantab Winning Ways of Cracknor, red, lovely type, at present in very tight coat, loved his head & expression, sound & very together on the move, super neck & shoulders, excellent topline, very natural tailset. RCC;

2 Smith’s Javidel Come What May, red & so close up to 1, I really liked him & it was a tough decision. Has many of the attributes of 1, in great coat, so well presented & handled;

3 Green’s Wharfvalley Diamond Star, rich red & without being rude what I would term ‘the old type’ of Norfolk. Well put together & one who could do a day working. Just a little plainer in head to 1 & 2 but in great form & looked well.

OD (8,1)

1 Jenkins’ Kinsridge Top Gun, red, very much the type & outline I was looking for. Super head, neat ears, strong foreface, excellent mouth, good front, excellent topline & on the move has reach & drive. CC;

2 Morgan’s Ch Belleville Blacklace, b/t, a dog who has his moments, at times he makes himself look good & next he doesn’t. Took a while to settle on the move but then came into his own;

3 Lindsjo’s Ch Gerfelli’s Elegant Envoye In Russet, slightly larger than 1 & 2 but with a most lovely head & expression. Good front, excellent bone, good neck & shoulder. Not quite as compact as 1 & 2.

GCD (2)

1 H Jackanory;

2 R Cognac Diamond.

VB (4)

1 Hurrion’s Tyark Pukka, smart little bitch, moves so well & in profile, best head & expression in the class, sound both ways, her young handler did a great job handling her;

2 Atkinson’s Ch Hobsons Choice at Moortop, rich red & very showy. Not quite the head & expression of 1 but lots to like about her & her handler had her in super coat;

3 Hess & Higgins’ Tomomayo Tiger Bright at Umbrage, amazing 10 year old & really enjoying her day out, still in great coat & texture, I liked her overall balance too.

PB (8)

1 Stevenson’s Brickin War Dance, really liked this bitch, so good to go over, for me the best head & expression in the class, sound & free moving, in super coat & body condition, true in front;

2 Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Cherry Red, red, very outgoing. Not quite the head & expression of 1 but saying that it isn’t a bad head either. Good neck & shoulder, excellent topline & carries her tail correctly;

3 Bettesworth’s Kapitada Free Spirit, very much the baby of the class but so enjoying her day out. Liked her head & expression, good neck & shoulder, sound & well handled. With a bit more maturity will do well I am sure.

JB (7)

1 Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Silk Stockings, red, nice for size, moves well in profile, well balanced head. Would like stronger muzzle;

2 Hitchen’s Belleville Charlie’s Angel for Kreatin, b/t, shows so well & is well balanced, moves OK but at times a bit erratic. Would prefer a little stronger head;

3 Donnachie’s Jenks Truly Scrumptious, red of good balance, excellent hard coat, sound both ways, good front & feet, excellent topline, well handled.

PGB (10)

1 Howard’s Hatchwoods Flamenco, well made bitch, on the move looks the part, really nice in head & expression, good front, excellent topline, super coat texture;

2 Ruffles’ Ruffnor Offbeat, liked this bitch very much & particularly in head & expression, super coat texture & so well presented, in profile moves out so well;

3 Benney’s Medarvam Make A Wish, very feminine, nicest of heads, very showy, moves well both ways & well handled.

LB (13)

1 Matell’s Cracknor Custom Made, really like this bitch, super head & expression, just the type of head I really prefer, in great coat & moves so well, OK for size, good overall balance. RCC;

2 Ruffles’ Ruffnor Off The Peg, liked this bitch as soon as she came into the ring, of the head type I like, strength yet still feminine, looked so good & ran 1 all the way;

3 Phillips’ Blakens Dolly Mixture, b/t, very smart & looked good from any angle, moved OK. Would prefer a little more neck but in great form & deserving of her place in this good class.

OB (12)

1 Cooper’s Ch Settrenda Saucy Sox, I really thought this was a lovely bitch & moving & standing always was on her toes, lovely head, excellent small ears, good neck & shoulders, excellent topline & tailset. Delighted to give her a fourth CC & BOB;

2 Mitchell’s Richell Show Off, slightly larger than 1 but not big. Loved her on the move with reach & drive, super topline, in super coat;

3 Phillips & Tate’s Jaeva Hells Fury, very showy b/t, not quite the head of 1 & 2. Super outline, good front, excellent coat texture, sound & free moving.

GCB (6)

1 H Flamenco;

2 Ruffles’ Ruffnor Secret Wish, very feminine little bitch, lovely head, dark eyes, small ears, good front, in super rich red tight coat & moved so well, handled beautifully;

3 R Offbeat.
