It turned out to be a lovely sunny day and we were able to judge outside, Manchester’s always seem to show better with the sun on their backs and grass under their feet. As usual for me it was not a big entry but I was pleased to see some quality and had to make some difficult decisions. There was quite a variation in size, I would like to appeal to newer and non specialist judges not to get too critical of size, the Manchester was never bred to go to ground and although it’s primary job has always been vermin control it should be quite capable of catching a rabbit for the table, some of the current examples in the ring just could not do this. Certain judges seem to penalize size at the cost of elegance and breed type, please be aware and remember the size in the standard is only an ideal. One other point I would like to mention is the breed standard only differentiates between dogs and bitches by an inch in height otherwise the breed points are the same, the bitches should also have the required long flat wedge shaped skull, well filled under the eye, this may be worth keeping in mind when you select your puppies for breeding and showing!

Puppy Dog 3 Entries 2 Absent

1st Stedman & Leighs Mansiya if You Dare, A good sized dog, well marked, good eye, overall make and shape is good, well set ears and tail which he held on the move, he was a bit unsettled today and he was a bit erratic on the move

Junior Dog 2 Entries 1 Absent

1st Freer & Priestman’s Felfree Top Oscar, Nice size, excellent coat, good tan and markings, ears a bit big which spoiled expression and a touch overweight which spoilt his outline

Post Grad Dog 1 Entry,

1st Brown’s Talanors Sweet Dreams, another good sized dog, well set ears and in good coat, lovely deep tan and well marked, a touch upright in shoulder which affects flowing lines and movement

Limit Dog 3 Entries

1st Buxton’s Millacome Made in Heaven SHCM, This Dog caught my eye as soon as he came in the ring, he is what I would call a good honest dog, slightly old fashioned in his appearance which I can assure you is a good thing. Lovely wedge shaped head, well filled under his correct shaped eyes, good set of ears and good neck with a well laid back shoulder giving that look of quality, nice straight front, well sprung ribs, strong loin and enough angulation behind. He was in excellent condition with good tan and well marked. He moved effortlessly around the slightly uneven ring. I have seen him exhibited previously and give the appearance of not being too bothered but today he did not put a foot wrong and I was very pleased to award him the CC which is his 3rd well done

2nd Harrison’s Magpiebank Ash, another good dog who on another day will do some winning, in great condition, good wedge shaped head, well marked when he was stood he looked a picture. He didn’t move as well as 1st especially in front, he is also has heavier ears which are not quite high enough which just spoils his expression for me but there is a lot to like about this dog.

3rd Rowbottom’s Calastoa’s Amber Gambler At Ttombowor, A lot to like about this dog with good breed points, not at his best today, I would like a stronger head but he does have everything in proportion

Open Dog 4 Entries

1st Saville’s Ch. Calastoa’s Man In The Mirror of Dobermation, A well made dog who fits the standard, good head, front, shoulder and correct topline, well marked, he seemed to struggle on the uneven surface but did manage to move well enough in the challenge to win RCC

2nd Ferguson’s Ch. Fellfree Rocket SHCM, Presented in excellent condition, good head but would prefer his ears a bit higher set to improve his expression, he moved well covering the ground with ease

3rd Eva’s Sophyla Sam Brown JW SHCM, good breed points, correct size, very well marked,

Puppy Bitch 3 Entries 1 Absent

1st Palmer’s Egoshayle Queen Of The May, A smart looking puppy who seemed to be enjoying her day, very well marked and in good condition. at eleven and a half months I would like a bit more substance but there is still plenty of time for her, pleased to award her BPIB

2nd Noden’s Joemario Ice Ice Baby, just a baby who has a lot of maturing to do, not really strong enough in head for me although she has a good eye, her ears are too low set, she is very heavily marked but hopefully these may clear a bit in time

Junior Bitch 3 Entries 1 Absent

1st Young’s Mimbre Monsoon, A good shaped bitch with good markings and a nice eye, she could do with a stronger head and her ears are set too low, moved ok

2nd Joemario Ice Ice Baby

Post Grad Bitch 1 Entry

1st Sandland’s Eulalies Titania, A bitch of good size who is well marked and was presented in good condition

Limit Bitch 3 Entries 1 Absent

1st Smith’s Simjest Kiara’s Candy Girl, A very elegant bitch, she moved very well and never stopped showing, responding very well for her handler. She has a good head with a good set of ears with a good expression correct shoulder and front; her markings are a bit light but they are there. She is so well balanced with the correct topline. She was unfortunate to meet the open winner in the challenge because at this point she was my winner; however I was pleased to award her the RCC

2nd Harrison’s Sophyla Sophie, Moved very well, she was a touch overweight which spoilt her outline for me but she is a very steady showgirl

Open Bitch 2 Entries

1st Leigh & Nonog’s Am/Can Ch. Jetcity Cat Woman Sings The Blues To Mansiya (IMP USA)

What a stunner, superb wedge shaped head with the required fill under the eyes, ears well on top, lovely neck flowing into well laid back shoulder’s, well sprung ribs, straight front, well marked, in superb condition, excellent breed points, she moved around the ring with real style, so well balanced, she never stopped showing for her talented handler who didn’t have to work too hard to get the best from her. She is difficult to fault, however to be hyper critical I would have preferred her to be more positive in hind movement going away and of course it would be nice if she was a shade smaller. She has to be a great addition to the British gene pool and it will be interesting to see what she can produce. Happy to award her the CC and BOB, I was pleased to hear she had been short listed in the group later in the day.

2nd Forshaw’s Calastoa’s Lucky Star JW A very smart bitch of good type, good head,
