WELKS 13 Judge

MANCHESTER WELKS 13 Judge(s): MR R PYNE Manchester Terriers Not having judged the breed since 2007, I was pleasantly surprised to see it in good condition with some nice young stock coming through to carry on the future of the breed. However, a couple issues caused me some concern. Ears should be small, v shaped, carried well above the top line of the head & hanging close to the head above the eye, not down the side of the head. Ideal size for dogs is 16 inches, for bitches 15 inches, at the shoulder. A lot of exhibits are well up to size/over. Lastly, too many handlers were baiting their dogs while I was trying to examine the head, teeth, etc & this caused the dog/bitch to paw my hand away to get the bait. This also takes away any view of expression, alertness & elegance. They are Manchester T’s, not Dobermanns. PD (1) 1 Ferguson’s Felfree Rocket, a 10 months dog, well up to size, nice keen alert expression, nice head & eye, good teeth. Ears need to settle. Nice topline, good body. Work on table & movement required. JD (4) 1 Knight’s Westbank Blue Diamond for Talanors, 17 months dog, overall a compact elegant boy, nice head & expression. A bit short in the face. Good earset & forequarters, nice topline, moved with drive. Weill develop into a good dog; 2 Buxton’s Millacome Made In Heaven, 13 months dog, overall in good shape, up to size, nice head & shoulders. Big boned, but moved with purpose. PGD (3) 1 Saville’s Calastoa’s Man In The Mirror of Dobermatian, overall up to size, big boned, nice head & expression. Needs to use his ears more. Good neck into well set shoulders. Tail set well, but carried high on the move; 2 M Made In Heaven. LD (3) 1 Charlton’s Digelsa Daimond Geza at Lizelms, very classy dog that takes the eye with his nice alert expression, good head, nice neck well set into the shoulders, good topline, moved with drive. RCC; 2 Holmes’ Egloshayle Black Carlyn, 5 years dog who is up to size, needs to use his ears to give the keen alert expression which is required. Moved & handled well. OD (7) 1 Beardow’s Ch/Int/World Ch Talanors Hellova Treat for Sipowitz, a deserving title for an amazing dog who stands out. Beautiful head with an amazing expression, ears set correctly, good teeth, good reach of neck into well set shoulders, good topline, well set tail, in hard condition, moved with drive. Pushed the BOB all the way down to tail. CC; 2 Cockcroft’s NZ Ch Lindhorne Spellbound, came up against a good dog on the day. Good head & expression, nice small dark eyes, good neck & topline, moved well. PB (4) 1 Saxton & Dale’s Rattustrap Top Totty, beautiful 8 months puppy with a very keen alert expression, ears set up & carried well over eye, lovely head shape & colouring, good neck into well set shoulders, good spring of rib well cut up into a good hindquarter, moved with purpose. BP & RCC; 2 Saville’s Querceti Isadora for Dobermatian, 6 months & 3 days on the day & this little girl pushed 1 all the way & the result could easily have been reversed. Watch this little girl mature into a lady. Nice size, ears, neck & shoulders, good topline, moved with drive & purpose. JB (3) 1 R Top Totty; 2 Buxton’s Millacome Maid Of Magic, 13 months bitch, nice head & eyes. Ears let it down. Nice topline & tailset, moved well. PGB (5) 1 Greenslade’s Calastoa’s Material Girl, nice clean head, good strong neck, ears well set, good rib & cut up. Needs to be shown to her full potential; 2 M Maid Of Magic. LB (8) 1 Dunford & Akrigg’s Paucelin Armana by Quixol, very nice bitch with lovely earset & face, nice arch of neck, good topline & tailset, in hard condition, moved well; 2 O’Neill’s Ticknell Hidden Treasure at Megellan, nice bitch, similar to 1 but ears set lower. Good neck, forequarters & spring of rib, moved freely. OB (5) 1 Oxley’s Ch Digelsa De Ja Vu, what an eyecatcher, ticks all the boxes of the breed Standard. Beautiful head with an amazing alert expression, ears set correctly on top above the eye, good teeth, good arch of neck into well set shoulders, good topline, well set tail, in hard condition, moved gracefully with purpose. CC & BOB, reduced to the last six in the terrier group & Digelsa Kennel’s 99th CC winner; 2 Knight’s Talanors Taylor Made Treat, nice bitch, lovely head & expression, good use of ears & set, good neck & spring of rib, nice topline on the move, handled well.
