MANCHESTER JUDGE RICHMOND 09

Manchester Terriers

Thank you to all exhibitors for accepting my last minute replacement for your judge elect, Maureen Micklethwaite, with such kindness & sporting good humour. She had a bad fall two days earlier but is, I hear, thankfully now well on the road to recovery. It was a honour indeed to take over such a truly thrilling entry of the highest quality.

The breed were in their element, striding out in our large decently mown outside ring with their coats agleam in the sunshine. Very different from two years earlier when we had a small, noisy indoor ring & the Manchesters simply hated it, they were not alone, when judging them fairly was difficult as many simply did their best to look their worst. The breed is now, & due to some clever breeding, in a splendid state with the best of temperaments & not an ‘also ran’ among them. Certainly one of my most enjoyable, if unexpected, appointments ever.

PD (6)

1 Creber & Beardow’s Talanors Hellova Treat For Sipowitz, full of his own importance & very mature for age, holding himself with great pride with excellent outline & balance, well shaped masculine head, dark sparkling expressive eyes, in the best of condition, super for make, shape, size & type, well laid shoulder & bend of stifle, good body, bone, arch to his neck & depth of chest, so very sound & positive on the move with good reach in profile reflecting the excellence of his confirmation. Surely one for the very top. Most impressive. RCC;

2 Clifton’s Gloryline Henry The Seventh, beautiful, well made youngster with dark rich tan markings, lovely head, most intelligent expression, charming character, up on his toes with excitement & found it hard to stand still even for a moment, in excellent coat & condition. Basically a very good mover although inclined to throw up his front legs with over-enthusiasm at times;

3 Board’s Lacinka Liquid Fire.

JD (3,1a)

1 Forshaw’s Janzins Rock Star, VHC in the last class, moved very well but rather lacking in enthusiasm for the job in hand. Good depth through the heart, well marked in excellent coat & condition. Rather more domed in skull than ideal;

2 Woollard’s Lacinka The Liquidator, larger type, moved well behind but all over the place in front. Well marked, in good coat & condition.

PGD (2)

1 St Clair’s Mimbre First Mate, can look most intelligent when he tries, in the hardest of muscular condition, good topline & decent shoulder, where he scored, well balanced, good strong free mover, reaching out & covering ground in profile;

2 Mercer’s Faolan Sirius, would insist on pacing however hard his owner & the judge tried but, when he put his mind to it, proved he has a good length of stride. Little fuller in eye than 1.

LD (3)

1 Leigh’s Sophyla Sorcerer of Mansiya, lovely for size, type, make & shape, well laid shoulder & best of toplines, well shaped head, keen expression in his dark eyes, good front & hindquarters, in the hardest of muscular condition & superb coat, good depth through the heart, good mover, driving from his hocks & covering ground in profile;

2 Dale’s Megellan Rumble in Rattustrap, handsome masculine head, well balanced & so good for type & size, excellent topline, decent shoulder. Just not moving as well as 1;

3 Holmes’ Egloshayle Black Carlyn.

OD (3)

1 Norris’ Ch Brookstream Marcus Banks, what a gorgeous dog. Two years ago I described him as a top class lad who was a joy to see on the move although the same could not be said for his showmanship at the time. He is even better with maturity & his behaviour is now immaculate, typifying the Standard in every way, in the hardest of condition & beautifully balanced, good angulation of shoulders & hindquarters, well shaped head, keen intelligent expression in his small dark sparkling eyes, excellent topline, tailset, ears, marking, coat – everything, super sound, free & positive on the move, holding himself so proudly & driving from his hocks with good reach of stride, scoring on maturity & elegance to win the CC & on perfection of front movement BOB. G2;

2 Braybrook’s Ch Gloryline Sir Thomas More, beautiful, being so well made & balanced, lovely masculine head, dark well shaped eyes, good deep chest, scoring on tailset & carriage, very typy, strong & positive on the move;

3 Pyne’s Newtonian Black Rod.

VB (2,1)

1 Clifton’s Ch Gloryline Rose Of Tudor, making light of her 10 years with lovely feminine well shaped head & bright alert intelligent expression in her dark eyes, keen & steady on the move, well angulated shoulder & hind leg, in splendid coat & condition.

PB (6)

1 Knight’s Talanors Special Treat, well named & won this class with something to spare. Lovely for size, type, make, shape & balance, well angulated shoulders & hindquarters, beautiful head & expression, dark well shaped eyes, good arch to her proudly carried neck, good mover, driving from strong quarters, in the hardest of muscular condition. Litter sister to the BP & very similar in type although just not quite as mature but this was splitting hairs as she is quite lovely. BPB;

2 Palmer’s Egloshayle Tangleberry, well balanced & typy but seemed to have her mind on somewhere or something else. Lovely head, eye & expression, so good for size, layback of shoulder & bend of stifle. Very good mover, just lacking animation possibly due to her current false pregnancy although willingly doing everything required of her;

3 Bynam’s Lacinka Liquid Gold at Ceebee.

JB (3)

1 Churms’ Digelsa Dream Maker of Wystry, lovely head & expression, beautifully made all through, lovely for size & shape, good depth through the heart & decent forechest, scoring on shoulder & hind leg, excellent topline & movement;

2 Brown & Arundel’s Browdel Bizzy Lizzy, good for size & type, brisk & steady on the move, reaching out & covering ground in profile;

3 L Liquid Gold at C.

PGB (6)

1 Braybrook’s Tudorbrook My Venturess, full of quality, scoring on her femininity & enthusiasm, excellent shoulder, hindquarters & reach of neck, so alert & inquisitive with bright intelligent expression in her dark sparkling eyes, smart mover;

2 Palmer’s Egloshayle Black Rosewyn, well made all through, good shoulder & outline, well shaped eyes. Very accurate mover, albeit less purposeful than she might have been. Excellent topline;

3 Wicker’s Mimbre Solitaire.

LB (4,2)

1 Leigh’s Sophyla Sally for Mansiya, so well made all through & holding herself so proudly with good length of arched neck, strong topline, deep chest, good bone, layback of shoulder & bend of stifle, well shaped eye & most intelligent expression, in excellent coat & hard muscular condition, very good mover;

2 McIntyre’s Calot Ozara, so good for size, little fuller in eye than 1. Steady sound & enthusiastic on the move.

OB (4)

1 Oxley’s Ch Digelsa Double Entendre, quite outstanding & a joy to handle as she is so well made all through with firm body, well angulated shoulders, good bend of stifle. Made her BP at the City two years ago & she has matured into something special. Beautiful feminine head, good arch to her neck, great length of stride in profile, driving from her hocks, had a somewhat dreamy expression in her well shaped dark eyes & gather that she may well have her mind on matters maternal. Utterly beautiful. CC which, I gather, gives her the new breed record. Interestingly she and the BOB share the great Ch D Don The One as their grandsire & Ch Beamish as their grandsire & sire respectively;

2 Knight’s Talanors Tomorrows Dream, also quite lovely with excellent shoulders, hindquarters & markings, such a superb mover with good reach in profile, well shaped head, keen, intelligent expression. She had had a small accident to one ear the evening before but this honourable scar did nothing to diminish her charms or enthusiasm. RCC;

3 Stubbington’s Calot Haja.

Breeder (1)

1 Ralph & Garrett’s team of four youngsters & all so very typy. They made a splendid sight going round the big ring, then up & down together &, although not being lucky enough to feature in the top awards earlier, most ably illustrated the very high quality of the breed currently.
