MANCHESTER JUDGE PAIGNTON 13

I would like to thank exhibitors for both the quantity and the quality of all exhibits. Without exception they were immaculately presented and a credit to their owners. On a more negative level, there has over the last 5 years been a worrying and significant migration toward keeping and showing dogs rather than bitches. This has led to great strength in the dog classes, as numbers are now strong in the Limit and Open classes. I was delighted therefore to find my Best of Breed from the Limit Bitch class. However, this decline in bitch numbers should be a concern for all involved with Manchester Terriers as the breed will only survive if there are enough individuals keeping and breeding from quality bitches. I fear that long-term survival cannot be achieved or maintained if this issue is not addressed quickly from within.

Puppy Dog – 1 entry

1st MORRIS Mr S C and Mrs C - Calastoa Amber Gambler
(Best Puppy)
A striking baby – just turned 6mths and out to thoroughly enjoy his day. Markings clear and defined. Pleasing eye shape and colour, good ears and an alert expression. Well-placed shoulders complimented with excellent hindquarters. Moved with drive, showed with great exuberance and enthusiasm. At this stage looking very good for size. Handler cleverly handled this very lively puppy allowing him to settle and give of his best. Well done. (Best Puppy)

Junior Dog – 3 entries

1st FERGUSON Mrs J and Miss G - Felfree Rocket
A well balanced soundly made young dog with a lovely outline that is held on the move. Appropriate amount of bone for height resulting in an elegant, but masculine profile. Good markings with thumbprints clearly defined. Lovely eye, scores highly in shape and colour. Moved true both front and hind. Good feet. Handled with patience and precision to show him off at his best.

2nd PYNE Mr T A and Mrs S M – Brockenella’s Chancer at Budley
A well made masculine dog. Eyes were of a good shape and colour. Ears very slightly heavy and not always held correctly which does tend to detract from his stunning strength of head. Movement was correct throughout as was his outline both stood and on the move.

3rd BUXTON Mr and Mrs N – Willacome Made in Heaven

PG Dog – 1 entry

1st FERGUSON Mrs J and Miss G – Felfree Rocket

Limit Dog – 3 entries

1st KNIGHT Mr C and Mrs G – Westbank Blue Diamond for Talanors
Very well presented dog in first class muscular condition enhancing correct outline both stood and on the move. All markings are defined and tan has good depth. Straight front with good rear angulation. Outstandingly neat ears that compliment his strength of head. Eyes good for colour, but shape not a strength. Movement was at times unsettled, but he was handled with expertise to demonstrate his soundness.

2nd SAVILLE Mrs V – Calastoa Man in the Mirror of Dobermatian
So many strengths in this dog, super eye colour and shape. Markings clear, tan good. Muscular condition spot on. Appropriate rear angulation presenting a balanced picture in profile when stood. The general make and shape of this dog really appealed when stood as he fulfils the breed requirements, but unfortunately he failed to move straight throughout and this cost him the class.

3rd CRAWLEY Mrs B R – Victor James Montague

Open Dog – 6 entries

1st NORRIS Mr N H and Mrs L and NORRIS Mr W H – Ch Brookstream Louis De Blue
(Dog CC)
An impressive dog that typifies masculinity, strength and power combined with elegance, so important in a male, but often lost. Outstanding head, eyes and ears. Good construction and balance with enough angulation to produce plenty of drive from behind. Markings clear and combined with an appropriate depth of tan as defined by the breed standard. Slightly distracted at times, but sympathetically handled with competence and confidence to win a well deserved CC.

2nd EVA Mrs L – Sophyla Sam Brown JW Sh.CM
(Reserve Dog CC)
A dog that has so many good breed point qualities. I have admired him for sometime, as he is so pleasing in size, scoring highly in this department. Demonstrates good balance, correct fore and hindquarters. Super shaped eye and excellently marked thumbprints. So close to taking the CC for overall type and outstanding but just lacked a little bit of terrier spark on the day.

3rd MORRIS Mr S C and Mrs C – Ch Calastoa Amber Nectar

Puppy Bitch – 2 entries (1 absent)

1st SAVILLE Mrs V – Querceti Isadora for Dobermatian
A very promising bitch puppy. Well balanced, soundly made. Correct ears and eyes compliment her feminine head. Outline is good as is her overall balance and type. Moved with confidence on the floor holding topline and tail carriage well. Beautifully present and in excellent condition.

Junior Bitch – 1 entry

1st EL-TELBANI Mrs S - Tudorbrook New Attitude for Srescem
Another very feminine bitch with plenty of potential. Nicely constructed. Sound shoulder, front and rear angulation. Presented in lovely condition. Unfortunately she tended to look up at her handler on the move and consequently lost direction and straightness on the move. It was a pleasure to observe the way in which this handler encouraged and praised throughout. Well done.

PG Bitch – 3 entries (1 absent)
1st BOGGIS Mr L – Ddraigdu Misty for Me at Laurenbill
Very nice make and shape with a sound outline both stood and moving. Her correct outline would be shown to full potential with slightly less weight on. Good bone for size thus maintaining femininity. Excellent semi-hare feet. Good hind angulation produced plenty of reach and drive on the move.

2nd CRAWLEY Miss B R – Digelsa Dancing with Darla
Another pretty bitch enhanced by her correct ear carriage that was held despite the echoing hall. Soundly constructed and when stood looked good in profile. Unfortunately movement was difficult to assess as she insisted on crabbing throughout. Coat and condition were excellent. Eyes were a good shape and colour. Handled with confidence by her young handler.

Limit Bitch – 7 entries (2 absent)

1st LEIGH Mrs S – Calastoa English Rose to Mansiya
(Bitch CC and Best of Breed)
I have long admired this bitch as she ticks so many boxes when judged against the breed standard. Radiates quality both stood and moving. Outstanding construction, markings and condition. Has enough bone to give substance whilst maintaining her femininity. An outstanding strength of head combines with good ears and eyes to producing an alert expression. Movement was positive and precise throughout. Handled and presented with focus to produce her very best on the day.

2nd Norris Mr N H and Mrs L and Norris Mr W H – Calastoa Who’s that Girl at Brookstream
A real pretty, pretty. Doesn’t have the bone of 1, but lacks nothing in quality. Very appealing head and expression. Super eye colour. Straight front and good hindquarters producing good overall balance. Good tan and coat. Ears small and neat when held, unfortunately struggling to do so today with all the background noise in the hall. Presented in first class condition and handled to advantage.

3rd GREENSLADE Mr D E and Mrs P M – Calastoa Material Girl

Open Bitch – 4 entries
(Reserve Bitch CC_

1st DUNFORD Mrs C and Akrigg Mrs C – Ch Quixol Pandora
A bitch that I judged and thought highly of three years previously. Despite a slightly fading tan she still retains all of the outstanding qualities she possessed then. Her make and shape, breed specific markings, head, eyes and ears meet all that is required to meet the breed standard. She radiates quality looking equally impressive stood and on the move. A delight to judge her a second time and a worth RCC winner.

2nd DUNFORD Mrs C and Akrigg Mrs C – Paucelin Armana by Quixol
Another appealing bitch. Not quite so strong in the head as 1 but holds ears well to produce that distinctive terrier alertness. Good length of neck adds to her elegance and befits her balance and proportion. Good for colour and markings. Moved soundly throughout pushing hard for the RCC.

3rd PALMER Mr D J and Mrs J L – Ch Egloshayle Sea Lily
