MANCHESTER BLACKPOOL 10 Judge: Miss J M Lanning JP MANCHESTER JUDGE BLACKPOOL 10 Manchester Terriers One of our ancient & unspoilt breeds. I often refer to them as the Lowry black & tan dogs which feature in so many of the famous paintings of the matchstick-like people. Although still a numerically small breed it is fast coming back to producing high class ones. My BOB, still a junior bitch, was quite one of the best I have judged of this breed. I love her size, so well balanced, sound on the move & combining the best of type & quality & with the correct topline which is such an important feature of the breed. DCC, a little stallion, excellent pattern of the breed in every way, so well muscled & sound on the move, standing firmly on the best of legs & feet. Several others of merit made a good day for the breed. I must, however, mention a few faults which need attention. Several flat backs. The Manchester should have a very slight rise over the loin (really in keeping with most running dogs), but not in any way to be confused with a ‘roach back’ which would, of course, be completely wrong. Several with round eyes & small teeth & flat feet. All things which can be worked on and eradicated. I have often referred to this breed as a Cinderella breed, hard to understand why it is not more popular, its handy size & short coat make it an ideal companion. PD (3) 1 Norris’ Brookstream Louis De Blue, good youngster of balance & type, has time to firm in front, excellent head, eye & ears. BP: 2 Marshall’s Janzins Man of Mystery from Jepejo, needs a firm hand. Can do well with training. Has the type, balance & movement. JD (1) 1 Dunford & Akrigg’s Quixol Alexander, impressive youngster, good head & eye, strong quarters. Litter brother to BCC & BOB. RCC. LD (5) 1 Brander’s Churnet Concerto at Menfreya, first 2 litter brothers, high class dog, excellent front, sound mover, will always be in the top flight. CC; 2 Broadhurst’s Churnet Chorus, close up, the same excellent merit as his siblings; 3 Morris’ Mansiya Word To The Wise at Calastoa. OD (3) 1 Leigh’s Ch Sophyla Sorcerer of Mansiya, neat, well balanced, good outline, correct depth of chest; 2 Norris’ Ch Brookstream Marcus Banks, lovely head & eye, top class. Not holding his topline so well on the move; 3 Morris’ Ch Calastoa Amber Nectar. PB (4) 1 Steel’s Brookstream Blue Lady, has the quality, excellent outline, showing the same promise as her winning brother; 2 Saxton & Dale’s Egloshayle Sea Sprite of Rattustrap, so smart, close up here, excellent front & feet; 3 Rosser & Roberts’ Gloryline Catherine Parr. JB (4) 1 Dunford & Akrigg’s Quixol Pandora, caught my eye immediately, high class, head, eye & markings all good, well balanced & sound. A lovely young lady. CC & BOB; 2 Leigh’s Mansiya Cosmopolitan, great quality, smaller build, excellent head & eye; 3 Reeve’s Harkeats Imperial Imp. LB (3) 1 Brown’s Tyburn Lara, little untidy on the move but her excellent type & balance could not be denied; 2 Wicker’s Mimbre Solitaire, smart, smaller build, excellent head & eye; 3 Reeve’s Mimbre Kazamia at Harkeats. OB (3,2) 1 Morris’ Calastoa Ruby Tuesday, holds her topline well, smart, neat, moving well behind, excellent head & eye. JEAN LANNING |
