MANCHESTER BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 10 Judge(s) MR MALCOLM ABBOTT DCC SOPHYLA SORCERER OF MANSIYA JW SHCM (MRS S LEIGH) Manchester Terriers Every time I judge Manchesters I always seem to be beating the drum about bad movement & it’s no different this time. Some of them were not built well enough to move correctly but I do believe with the correct conditioning & training most of the dogs here would at least be able to improve their movement, it would help & be a start if the handlers would practice getting their charges to move in a controlled straight line. Finding what I consider to be the correct head still remains a challenge, weaker muzzles now seem to be the norm, unfortunately when new exhibiter’s only see this they think it is correct, with this in mind as a judge it meant I had to make compromises in some of my places. You can have a strong head yet remain feminine with a bitch, you only have to look at my BOB. I was pleased with my principle winners. PD (3) 1 Norris’ Brookstream Louis De Blue, a very promising puppy, although very raw at the moment has a superb head, long & narrow yet strong with an excellent eye, good size & a well balanced shape with a lovely outline, well marked, has a style & elegance about him which we seem to be losing in the breed, obviously his front has to tighten & movement has to be more controlled & when it does he will trouble the best. RCC & BP; 2 Renshaw’s Talanors Smart Treat with Westbank, a lot to like about this young dog, excellent front & a very steady show dog, he doesn’t have the elegance of 1 & tended to pace on the move. I am sure his owners will have some fun with him; 3 Kirkbride & Ging’s Gorau Grymus. JD (2) 1 Dunford & Akrigg’s Quixol Alexander, I liked this one, good honest sort of dog, well up to size, one of the better movers, good eye but his head is a touch broad in skull, well marked, good front & shoulder, very good temperament; 2 Clifton’s Gloryline Henry The Seventh, a lot to like, good head & expression. Could do with some more bone & substance & still needs to settle a bit. PGD (2,1a) 1 Symington’s Quixol Havoc, a good sized dog, decent head with a good expression, excellent tan, not very positive in front & could show a bit more enthusiasm. With a bit more effort I think the owners could have some fun in the show ring with him. LD (3,1) 1 Beardow’s Talanors Hellova Treat for Sipowitz, good size, very well marked. I would like more fill under his eye which would improve his head & expression. Good neck & front, used his ears well & moved well, in excellent condition & with a good temperament; 2 Brander’s Churnet Concerto at Menfreya, a size bigger than 1, good overall construction with a lot to offer. Eyes are a bit light which spoils his expression. His markings at the moment are a bit heavy but hopefully they will clear a bit. In excellent condition. OD (3) 1 Leigh’s Sophyla Sorcerer of Mansiya, good sized dog, excellent markings, nice straight front, good head & used his ears to advantage, one of the few good movers on the day & never stopped showing, good neck into well sloped shoulders giving him that quality which is lacking in the breed at the moment. Tan could be a bit darker. His topline can level off when stacked but is OK on the move. CC; 2 Norris’ Ch Brookstream Marcus Banks, lovely dog with a lot to like, excellent head & ears. Could be more positive in front movement & tended to look long at times but another one out of the top drawer; 3 Braybrook’s Ch Gloryline Sir Thomas More. PB (2,1) 1 Steel’s Brookstream Blue Lady, her elegance was the first thing that caught my attention when I saw her, well made throughout, well marked with a lovely crest of neck into correct shoulders. At such a young age she, of course, needs to settle & her movement is all over the place but I am sure this will all come together as she matures; 2 Carlin’s Haneslau Flying Shuttle, smaller type, well marked & moved well. Lacks strength in head for me & will probably not make size. JB (4,1) 1 Leigh’s Mansiya Cosmopolitan, an interesting bitch being of different type to what we are used to, well marked & a good size, lovely front & well built throughout, was in season which I suspect was the reason she was unsettled & this also affected her rear movement, in profile she has good head planes but to be critical I would like a bit more width when viewed from above, this does affect her expression. I did like her overall qualities & will be interested to see what she produces, after all this is what it is all about. RCC; 2 Coleclough’s Quixol Desdemona at Coleburke, of a different type but still a very nice bitch, lovely temperament, I would have liked to have seen her moving more positively, not as well marked as 1 & this was the deciding factor; 3 Bynam’s Lacinka Liquid Gold at Ceebee. PGB (1) A. LB (2) 1 Braybrook’s Tudorbrook My Venturess, a bitch with a lot to like, a good shape when she pulls herself together. Needs to tighten up in movement. Good shaped head but eyes could do with being a touch smaller to finish the picture, well marked; 2 Brown’s Tyburn Lara, good overall shape. Lacks fill under her eyes which gives her an incorrect expression. OB (4) 1 Norris’ Brookstream Brooklyn, my kind of bitch & that says it all, very correct head, lovely wedge, well filled with a good eye which gives her the desired expression, strong yet still feminine, well marked, good front & shoulders, correct size, wonderful outline, moved with drive & purpose, shown to advantage at all times. CC & BOB; 2 Clifton’s Gloryline Tudor Anneboleyn, a lovely bitch, well marked, good size, great temperament, good head into well laid shoulders, showed well but lost out to RCC on movement; 3 Oxley’s Ch Digelsa Double Entendre. |
