LAKELAND JUDGE WELSH KC 11

LAKELAND TERRIER

I was pleased to step in at the last minute to replace the original judge Paul Wilkinson. The entry of 16 was not great even with two CCs on offer - and there were also three absentees, which meant that there were only six dogs and seven bitches present. I was satisfied that in both sexes the quality of the top winners justified the award of CC and Res CC status. I notice that in some of the exhibits the tails had been stripped out completely. Is this an emerging fashion? I hope not.

PD (2,1)

1. Burgoine & Woodward's Oregill Full Steam, good skull, good ears, moved better behind than in front where he moved slightly erratically at times, good neck and topline, tail carried well, good compact feet. Well coupled, quite smart and just needs a bit more time. BP.

JD (1)

1. Hawke's Jelliroll Professor Potts, skull could have been a shade more refined but flat enough there and correct in eye, ears could be a shade smaller. Handler needs to watch him as he can stand a bit wide in front at times, but good neck and topline, OK in coat. Needs tidying up a bit especially in hindquarters and could be more positive in movement. Good proportions.

OD (6,2)

1. Barker & Averis' Saredon Mack The Knife, good skull, very good neck and topline, could do with a shade more coat to compete the picture for type, Scored over the second for having rather more ring discipline when on the move. Good front and moved out well with good hindquarters and correct stifle. Correct in tailset and pleasing in narrowness of chest. DCC

2. Schonenberg's Nujax Rising Sun at Saredon, very good in head type but rather misbehaved in the ring when on the move. Good neck and topline, excellent coat, good hindquarters and correct in tailset. Moved pretty well in front. Res DCC

 3. Davani's Ir Ch Lux Ch Gosel Simply The Man At Kebulak

PB (1)

1. Evans' Ralphina For Your Eyes Only, very pleasing in head and skull proportions. Good eye. Correct compact feet. Quite big for a bitch and did not move very well in front but OK behind. Coat needs tidying up a bit.

JB (2)

1. Jones Glentops Back In Style, good size and not too big for a bitch, underneath all that hair seemed better in head and skull proportions than 2. Very smart outline. Good texture of coat but needs better preparation especially in the head. Smaller ears than 2. Good loin and rib and scored in size over

2. Moved out quite well. 2. Burgoine and Woodward's Jelliroll Lady Lucinda, narrow throughout and OK in body. Slightly bigger than 1 and a little but heavier in ears and not using her ears well. Could be shorter in foreface.

LB (1,0)

1 Burgoine & Woodward's Lady Jelliroll Mercedes Sh.CM, good head proportions and skull. Excellent jacket with good harsh coat texture. Good in rib but could be a bit narrower in front. Moved well behind, better there than in front. Tail set-on could be better but scored very much in coat.

OB (3,0)

1 Greenway's Rayfos Hawk Leaf, typical head and skull of the correct proportions. Good ears of correct size and placement. Good neck and topline. Moved better behind than 2 and scored in stifle and had somewhat more coat. Good chest which was narrow enough. Compact in body and outline. Excellent tail and tailset. Scored for type. BCC and BOB.

2. Davani's Ir Ch Kebulak Swing On A Star, very pleasing in head and expression with good ears. Good outline and correct proportions with good reach of neck. Good compact feet. A little bit unruly when on the move and could move with just a shade more drive behind. RBCC.

3. Carrwright's Saredon Midnight In Blue.
