MLTC Ch 22 Judge

MIDLAND LAKELAND TERRIER CLUB
CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 8/10/22

I must thank the small team of officers and committee for the invitation to judge at the clubs Championship show. It’s a while since I had physically judged a Lakeland, as my original appointment at WKC in 2020, was cancelled due to COVID. It was a Very special occasion to me, as this was the first KC breed I owned, bred and showed, over 40 years ago, after spending my time previously to this, showing, working and breeding working type lakelands at the local working terrier shows. As with a lot of terrier breeds, numbers are falling dramatically, due to varying reasons and we need somehow to attract more to these shows or we will lose them. All though a small entry, the quality was very good and I was not disappointed with any of the exhibits on show, all demonstrating the required breed type.  Best in show was the young male Jodean Pugwash.

Veteran dog/bitch (3,1)

1. Ashe’s, CH Ebrooks Red Rose. 12 year old r/wheaten sister and brother were the first exhibits to be judged. Preferred the overall shape, size and balance of the bitch, who was really up for it and on her toes at all times, with that wicked keen expression and glint in her eye. Very tidy through a balanced, head,flat skull,  correct eye and small well set ears. Clean through neck, decent shoulders and compact body. Ample bone and correct rear angulation with low hocks. Moved sprightly around the ring, covering the ground in typical style. Sporting a decent crisp jacket, considering age.
2. Ashe’s, Ebrooks Red Robbo. Obviously similar in type to winner, size larger as you would expect and again sporting a good jacket for age. Plenty behind the tail, small hocks and moved steadily when settled.

Open Dog (4,2)

1. Vicker’s, Dam’s, Punter’s, Jodean Pugwash. 18mths. A smart young dog of good type, nice in head, correct bite,  with dark eyes, good ears, clean neck that blends into correct shoulders, short back with well set tail. Excellent rear angles and low hocks. Presented  in good coat.  Moved well both ways, covering the ground with impressive drive from behind. CC & BOB
2. Alloway, Wendling & Schoneberg, Northcotes Isn’t That The Way.  Another of good type, pleasing through correct head, compact in body, short back, tail on top and decent rear angles. Well presented and sporting his best jacket. RCC.

Minor Puppy Bitch (1)

1. Averis & Barker, Saredon Portrait.  7mth. A pretty youngster, who was well schooled for her age.good for type and very typical head piece. Good I skull, eye, well set small ears and keen expression. Presented to the minute in excellent jacket. Ok through neck, tidy front and well angled rear with low set hocks. Very tidy on the move, with a typical gait. BP

Limit Bitch (2,1)

1. Vicker’s, Dam’s, Punter’s, Jodean Mary Rose A very pretty bitch with lovely expression, still a youngster and needs to body more and would benefit with a few more furnishings to complete the picture. Balanced head, flat skull, tidy small ears. Very clean through lengthy neck. Correct front, short level back, compact and tail on top. Lovely rear angulation. Sporting a crisp well presented jacket.  RCC.

Open Bitch (2)

1. Schoneberg, Fantasie V.D. Schonenbergen. Pleasing for overall type and balance, giving a compact smart appearance. Well balanced through typical head, correct bite and dark eye. Slight arch to clean neck, leading  into clean well placed  shoulders. , Well ribbed, firm top-line, short back with tail on top.  Ample rear angles. Sporting a mature jacket with crisp texture and adequate furnishings. Handled and presented to advantage. Moved well, tidily and Sound both front & rear, holding a correct topline. She presented a good profile from all angles and did enough for  the CC.
