LAKELAND JUDGE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 15
City of Birmingham CA Judges Report – Lakeland Terriers – Saturday 5th September 2015
My thanks to the officers and committee for the invitation, to my able and efficient stewards, but particularly to the exhibitors who hold the future of the breed in their hands.
I was pleased not to find any exhibits resembling Fox Terriers – all had Lakeland “type” stamped through. Some did lack substance and bone which imparts stamina and the ability to fulfil a Lakeland’s purpose.
Jackets were excellent throughout – harsh and double coated, some needed a little more time to reach optimum length and show condition but timing is always a challenge in the trimmed breeds.
All had correct dentition and bite and good pigment. Ears were generally OK, some a little small and open but the acoustics of the hall seemed to affect all exhibits at some point.
Puppy Dog (1)
1st. Graham’s “Stanstead Limited Edition”. Well grown 11 month old youngster. Very nice ears, correct balance in head proportions, clean front, lovely neck, shoulder and topline. Great set on and carriage, very hard jacket, moved out well and showed with animation. Maturity should suit him well. Best Puppy.
Junior Dog (1)
1st.Davani’s “The Number of the Beast Van Foliny Home at Kebulak”. Cobby type, a tad too short in loin for the breed. Clean head of nice balance and properties, ears reacting to noise so difficult to assess, OK in front, good legs and feet, good set on with plenty behind. Moved OK in front but wide and lacking drive behind.
Post Graduate Dog – No Entries.
Limit Dog (3, 1abs)
1st. Johnston’s “Oregill Hot Pursuit”. Very typy, strong head with ample foreface, strong and reachy neck easing into well placed shoulders, good topline and tailset, lovely long stifle and short hocks giving excellent drive on the move. CC.
2nd. Riley’s “Brindlefield Mr Bojangles”. Decent head, small dark eye and well used ears, good front. Not the tail set and topline of winner and lacked freedom and drive on the move.
Open Dog (2, 1abs)
1st. Broaders’ “Ir.Ch.Brookside Aristicrat “ IKC. Very nice type, good balance to head, lovely front, excellent topline and tailset, very nice overall balance, full of himself, moved with drive and animation. RCC.
Puppy Bitch. (3, 2abs)
1st. Hetherington’s “Nujax Made in Chelsea” Quite raw and I believe at her first show. Very petite all round, feminine head and expression with well used ears when settled. Moved quite well, she should gain substance on maturity, just needs time.
Junior Bitch (2, 1abs)
1st. Greenway’s “Rayfos Ring of Fire”. Typical Lakeland in type and attitude. Lovely balance all through, feminine and nice size. Good head proportions, flat skull, well placed ears, dark eye and strong muzzle. Good front, muscular neck and well laid shoulder into level topline with plenty behind the tail. Good bone, tight feet, moves well if a bit giddy! RCC.
Post Graduate Bitch – No Entries.
Limit Bitch (2)
1st. Kerrigan & Leadbeater’s “Leadstaffs Pyjamarama”. Nicely presented and in excellent coat. Good head and ears, dark eye and sweet expression. Reachy neck with good run in to shoulders, level topline and good set on and carriage. Good bend of stifle, ample bone, neat feet, moved out well.
2nd. Baldwin’s “Robelroy Georgina”. Petite and feminine, I like her striking colour and presented in good trim. This young lady should and could do better if she had more substance, everything is in the right place but lack of body weight affected her topline. Moved OK.
Open Bitch (3, 1abs)
1st. Johnston’s “Oregill Hot Gossip”. Nice all through, litter sister and feminine version of DCC winner but slightly classier. Same attributes apply, she has lovely balance and is all Lakeland without any coarseness. CC & BOB.
2nd. Westwood’s “Kebulak Trickery”. Nice size, good type, great coat, decent head, lovely neck and shoulder. Possibly over-angulated in quarters affecting the topline and tied in front elbow affecting movement.
Val Kenyon – Judge.
