KERRY BLUE JUDGE WELSH KC 23

It’s many years since I have prepared myself so well as I did before this appointment. The Kerry Blue Terrier Association and the Kerry Blue Terrier Club of England very kindly gave be the folder they had prepared for their 10th of September Seminar. I am very thankful for this and after having picked Eva Hart Hansen’s brain she kindly sent me the US Kerry Blue Terrier Club’s illustrated standard. Having digested most of this I was ready for my task. I was looking for an upstanding and compact dog, showing attitude and alert determination with definite Terrier style and attitude. The best Kerry Blue I have ever judged was Ch. Torums Scarf Michael which I gave his first BIS at Southern Counties in 1999.

MPD (1)

1 Davani’s Sheep Creek Quartermaster at Kebulak (Imp USA). I loved these 7 months old puppy. He had a super head which he carried proudly on an arched neck which was set nicely into his sloping shoulders. He is well constructed, and he moved with superb drive. I can see this dog going a long way. BP

OD (3)

1 O’Rourke’s Ch Kebulak Slave To Love. Here was the Kerry Blue king of the WKC 2023. This dog has a nice head, and he has the right proportions. He is a long-legged Terrier, and he stands well up on his feet. His hight from forechest to buttocks was approximately the same as his hight over the withers. Slave to Love is well developed in front with the right angulation. His brisket is deep, and it reaches well forward between his front legs. His ribs are moderately sprung and his topline is firm and level. This dog moved freely with a good drive from behind which gave him an aristocratic look. CC & BOB

2 Somers’ Ch Catachgorm Checkmate by Dogazza ( A.I ). This dog had a great colour, and he pushed the winner hard. He had many of the same virtues as Slave To Love and he is of excellent type. I did, however, prefer the front on the first one. 3 Mc Garry’s Balboa Giramondo

MPB (1)

1 Clarke-O’neill Lemracdream Shakira: Promising youngster of excellent type. She has a nice head and the right proportions for age. Nice head and outline. Moved well. Se was close to Nancy Drew, but was beaten on maturity.

PB (1)

1 Pinfold’s Cyres Nancy Drew. I was taken by this very nice puppy. She has a nice head and an excellent outline. She is well constructed, and she moved freely with good drive. BP

LB (3,1)

1 O’Rourke’s Kebulak Blueberry Muffin. It was a lot to like to like about this beautiful bitch. I loved her style and presence. She carried her head proudly on an arched neck. She is well constructed, and she moved very well indeed.

2 Baxter’s Croftsblu The Nipper. Nice bitch which would rather not be at the show. Nice head but could be more developed in body. Moves quite well when she wanted to. Would have liked to see her more forward in temperament.

OB (4,1)

1 Pinfold’s Cyres Lightning. This was a beautiful bitch of excellent type with an attractive colour. She has a nice head, and her neck is strong and nicely arched, running into sloping shoulders. She is well developed in body, and she has deep chest which reaches well forward. Her ribs are fairly well sprung and her topline is level even if I would have liked to see a straighter tail. It was a pleasure to see Lightning move with superb reach and power.

2 Clarke-O’neill Ch Showtime Lady At Lemracdream. This bitch was pushing hard, and the final decision was very close. Construction wise this bitch is excellent, and she gave a great picture standing even if her topline could have been stronger. On the day I thought she could have shown a bit more enthusiasm on the move so that’s why I placed her second.
