IRISH JUDGE WELSH KC 18

My thanks to the exhibitors for a pleasing entry. Whilst there has been for many years concern in respect of cracked pads and corns in the breed of which there was no evidence today, many of the feet examined today did cause concern as the standard requires them to be moderately small with arched toes, a description which was not applicable to many of today’s exhibits. Similarly many thighs were far from powerful which was reflected in a lack of drive when moving, perchance both may reflect a lack of roadwork. On the positive side, size was pleasingly uniform, heads and expressions are getting there though I would like to see a little more intensity. Coats and presentation have improved greatly, as has handling.

Veteran Dog 1

1. Bannister’s Ch Vision in Red, smart dog with good clean skull, good mouth with gleaming teeth. Good make and shape, good condition, showing well but lacked drive on the move.

Puppy Dog 2

1. Blower’s Turith Adonis stunning young dog fulfilling my requirements, great ring presence, lovely long lean head, good ears used to advantage, keen expression, lovely arched neck flowing into correctly made body, strong hindquarters moved with ease. Top quality from nose to tail, coat and presentation excellent., A pleasure to watch standing or on the move, must surely have a great future, no hesitation in awarded him CC & BOB.

2. Cooke’s Montelle Look of Gold, quality puppy, lovely size, neat clean head, well made. Good coat. Movement needs time as still a little loose in front.

Junior Dog 3 (1abs)

1. Blower’s Turith Adonis

2. Thomas’ Lead the Way to Montelle, quality young dog, good head, soundly made throughout. Good coat well presented, moved well enough though reflecting his immaturity, nevertheless an exciting prospect, Res CC.

Open Dog 3 (1abs)

1. Brookes’ Turith the Lawyer at Zetamax Sh CM, eye-catching quality dog, plenty big enough for me. Head on the strong side but used ears to advantage. Good flow to body lines, coat and presentation good. Lack of drive spoilt the picture on the move.

2. Bamsey’s Ch Holbam Celtic Warrior, lovely size quality dog, good construction, powerful hindquarters used to produce dive on the move, however front movement let him down.

Veteran Bitch 1

1. Price’s Sujonca Dancing Orchid at Woodraith, quality feminine bitch with good clean skull, good mouth and teeth. Soundly made throughout with good bend of stifle, moved well. Best Veteran

Puppy Bitch 3 (1abs)

1. Weeks’ Gingertyke Brans Anja, smart quality pup with good head, errant ear at present. Good overall construction with much to like about her, time is on her side but today her immaturity was revealed in her movement. Good coat and excellent presentation.

2. McIver’s Pinleygreen Golden Rocket, lovely sized young lady, good head, shoulders could be better and tailset caused me concern until she moved, so possibly due to lack of confidence in the ring. Good bend of stifle and happier on the move.

Junior Bitch 1

1. Cooke’s Royal Lady at Montelle, quality impressive young lady. Lovely size, neat head with good expression. Soundly made with good harsh coat. Did not disappoint on the move. Res CC.

Post Graduate Bitch 2

1. Bannister’s Holbam Celtic Nuala, pleasing size with good head ears and expression. Well made but her feet were a disappointment yet she moved well enough. Good coat and well presented.

2. Wortley’s Jarabica Tiger Lily, lovely bitch of sound construction. Her ear carriage spoilt her expression and detracted from her good head. Good jacket and moved well but had obviously left her sparkle at home today.

Limit Bitch 1

1. Bamsey’s Holbam Celtic Miss Chief, lovely sized quality bitch with good head and eye, ears however erratic. Good overall make and shape, but feet could be tighter. Not in her best jacket at present.

Open Bitch 5

1. Barker,Averis & Goddard’s Ch September Morn on Irvonhill, top quality bitch of lovely size, correct construction throughout. Lovely head, good ears flowing body lines combined with good movement, good coat texture, excellent presentation and handling resulted in an easy decision. CC.

2. Atkin’s Holbam Celtic Summer Sh CM, quality bitch with good head, soundly made, good bend of stifle, just lacked a little drive on the move.

3. Price’s Magairlin Adhmor Queen, eyecatching bitch, good head and ears, shoulders less impressive and topline disappointed.
