IRISH WELSH KENNEL CLUB 09 Judge: Mr C Powell IRISH JUDGE WELSH KC 09 Irish Terriers Overall exhibits were good & of type. What surprised me was the height of some of the exhibits which far exceeded the ideal height of the breed – exaggeration is not good for any breed. Some exhibits had weak pasterns & lacked muscletone. It was nice to find my CC winners from the ideal height range, plus the benefits of being in superb condition, hard & fit & up on their toes. It was nice to see that my BOB went on to G2 in a very strong terrier group. PD (2,1a) 1 Bradley’s Montelle Viscount Erhard, promising puppy, liked the head & expression on this puppy, small dark eyes & correct bite, good outlines & tight feet. A bit head strong at the moment, just needs to settle on the move. BPD. JD (2,1) 1 Seabridge’s Sujoncla Pokanoket, just out of Puppy & stood alone in the class but one of quality & type, pleasing head shape & correct bite, good angles all round, moved well & in good coat. PGD (2,1) 1 Pratt’s Terrijay Special Brew, good in body, feet & coat with plenty of furnishings, strong quarters, moved well. LD (3) 1 Seabridge’s Kerrykeel Wounded Knee at Sujoncla, a dog with a bright future, plenty of confidence & attitude, well balanced, keen & alert, good colour & pigment, in good coat with plenty of furnishings, moved with ease. RCC; 2 Nevill’s Montelle Lord Montague, judged this one before, still keen & alert with good outlines, good neck & shoulders, hard quarters, moved out well. Not the coat of 1; 3 Cooke’s Lionwood Rowanberry. OD (3) 1 Higgins’ Am Ch Royal Bryson Ruler at Derry, a real showman who makes it very easy for the handler, a dog full of quality & type, what can you say about this dog that has not already bean said? A great exhibit who campaigns all over the country, a real pleasure to go over him, best mover on the day, put down in first class condition. CC, BOB & G2; 2 Anderson’s Ch Keerykeel Ronan, top size plus a bit but not the biggest on the day, sound dog all over, balanced & in good condition, hard & fit, plenty of bone & substance, deep muscular chest, powerful thighs, in good coat & moved well; 3 Bradley’s Int Ch Kilcavan Oberon at Montelle. PB (3) 1 Kenyon & Sinead’s Siofra at Wyndam, very promising puppy with loads of confidence, keen & alert, looked the part standing & moving, great temperament, well shaped head, small dark eye, correct ear carriage & bite, bodying up nicely. BP; 2 Boyle’s Montelle Moya, good outlines, in good coat but prefer the maturity & movement of 1; 3 Sargent’s Brazen Choral. JB (4) 1 Hemmings’ Courtington Karina, well put together, pleasing head & shoulders, nice length of back, good angulations, in very good condition & harsh coat, moved freely covering the ground with ease, will have a lot of enjoyment showing her; 2 Nevill’s Courtington Elena at Rosemonelle, a bitch with more virtues than faults, good make & shape & in good coat, moved well. Would like better ear carriage; 3 Grant’s Tamarind Breeze. PGB (3,1) 1 Wooding & Woodraith’s Golden Buttercup, long lean head, dark in eyes, good legs & feet, strong thighs & in good coat, moved with ease & in good coat; 2 Bamsey’s Holbam Pearly Shannon, nice size, long lean head, dark eye, correct bite, body good but not the coat & movement of 1. LB (6) Very good class of quality exhibits. 1 Blower’s Saredon Ruby Red of Turith, a bitch who is well put together, balanced & ideal size, sound all over, pleasing head & shoulders, very good front & feet with no weakness, nice length of back, good angulations, put down in super condition, best moving bitch on the day, covering the ground freely & with ease. CC; 2 Brown’s Sujoncla Ochinee, bitch of type, lean head & dark eye, good bone & tight feet, good spring of rib, strong quarters, moved well & nice texture to her coat; 3 Jackson’s Montelle Star Of The Ring. OB (6) 1 Anderson’s Ch Kerrykeel Orlaith, well known bitch of larger mould, good length of head, good neck & shoulders, deep chest, good front & feet, strong powerful thighs & in good coat, moved well. RCC; 2 Seabridge’s Sujoncla Tecumseh, very good bitch of quality & type, pleasing head shape, correct bite, good outlines to body & quarters, moved well, close decision between 1 & 2, could easily be reversed on another day; 3 Rundle & Batley’s Ch/Sw Ch Larkans Udda.
