IRISH NATIONAL TERRIER 23 Judge: Mr P HORSPOOL IRISH JUDGE NATIONAL TERRIER 23 Many thanks to The National Terrier Club for inviting me to judge at their show and to the Exhibitors for their entry. Spec Beginners 1 McConnell’s Feegarron Star, 2 year bitch, typical outline, good dark eye & mouth, straight front, good bone, legs & feet, perhaps prefer touch more coat to complete the picture, moved ok. 1 Hardman & Brandwood’s Bonosue Thunder Storm at Spanwise, a 7 month old, just learning the ropes, racy outline, pleasing head though ears need to settle, correct harsh coat, moved freely. 1 Averis & Barker’s Holbam Ace Of Saredon, 9 mths of age, for me he was my star of the day, impressive racy outline, good length of head, dark eye, well placed ears which gave him a keen expression, fair reach of neck, deep body, well made quarters which he uses on the move, just needs to tighten in front movement, presented in great coat and condition, super showman, a credit to his owners & breeder, I thought perhaps a touch reminiscant of the Benshir kennel, pleased to award him CC/BOB & BP. 2 Ruffles Holbam Midsummer Knight At Ruffmar, another promising dog, pleasing outline, good head & expression, moved well, harsh coat of correct texture, not the ring presence of the winner but one that will be always be there about. 3 Chilvers Apispolb Bumble 1 Oliver’s Rufous Gubbeen Of Cleeve, another of impressive stance, typical balanced outline, his head is masculine with correctly placed ears, well made in body, strong muscular quarters, moved ok. 2 Holbam Midsummer Knight At Ruffmar 1 Martin’s Griffin Galanthus Gunderic, he has a good dark eye & correct mouth, ears need to settle, typical in make & shape, would prefer better tailset, pleasing in body, correct harsh coat. 1 Brown’s Sujoncla Pawnee Creek at Pitsford, a dog of decent size with a proportioned outline, good in overall make & shape, moved well in profile. 2 McConnell’s Tootrock Arcturus, an upstanding dog, size larger than one, pleasing outline, typical dark eye & well placed ears, moved with drive. 1 Bamsey’s Holbam Celtic Wizzard JW, a truly honest sort, though not the biggest of dogs, however he is still very masculine in outline and again with a keen typical expression, good bone, front & feet, well made shapely body, correct tailset, strong quarters, moved true both ways, presented in good form RDCC. 2 Atwell’s Kerrykeel Conchobhar at Xanwil, pleasing head, good depth of body, moved with drive, prefer a touch more bone for his size. 1 Redman’s Holbam Freya, an interesting bitch of just over 8 mths, everything in the right place, pleasing head though ears need to settle, good body proportions, obviously needs time. 1 Tureen’s Tuscan Red Varvara, a well presented bitch with correct harsh coat, she has a flat skull with dark eye, ears need to lift to give more typical expression, shapely outline, moved well both ways. 2 Atkins’ Holbam Celtic Rose (A.I.) I thought this one scored in head & expression, pleasing outline with good depth of chest, moved soundly, very close decision. 3 Bradshaw’s Holbam Midsummer Sprite (A.I) 1 Averis & Barker’s Saredon Flamboyance, very appealing, feminine but typical outline, well balanced and is of good type, keen & alert expression, good bone, legs & feet, in lovely coat and condition, as one assumes with this handler, strong quarters, moved with flowing stride. RBCC 2 Tureen’s Tuscan Red Varvara 3 Redman’s Holbam Freya 1 McConnell’s Holbam Shamrock Connie, stylish type of bitch, pleasing head & expression, deep body, ample bone, moved freely. 2 Hilver’s Kenynten Chasing Rainbows at Apispolb, good racy outline, fair reach of neck, good harsh coat, theses 2 could easily change places. 1 Bentley’s Norakin Tango of Newguild, pleasing type of bitch with quality, has some substance yet still feminine, typical head & expression, fair reach of neck, ample bone & feet, muscled quarters, moved with purpose. 2 Wortley’s Jarabica Grace O’Malley, again nicely balanced bitch, long head with correctly placed ears, dark eye, good toplne and tailset, moved well, prefered the size of one. 3 McConnell’s Feegarron Star 1 Gomer’s Ch Kerrykeel Cara, quite outstanding in outline, totally feminine & racy, she was in great coat & condition, long head with neatly placed ears, fair reach of neck with well laid shoulders, shapely in make & shape, her quarters were strong & well developed, moved well both ways, handled & showed well, BCC 2 Oliver’s Kerrykeel Aobheann, another classy type of bitch with lots to admire, again appealing in outline, lovely head & expression, well made in body, moved with drive, it is a great compliment to a breeder when they sell their stock to other exhibitors and they go on to do well, Mr Anderson should certainly be pleased with these 2, also to mention is Mrs Bamsey, who’s stock was owned by various exhitors and appeared at the top end of the line in a number of classes. 3 Lee’s Victoria Ivyblue Crinkles 1 Lee’s Sujoncla Goyathlay, almost 10 years of age, of good size, pleasing in head & expression, deep chect, good body shape, moved well behind. |
