IRISH JUDGE MANCHESTER 19

I would like to thank the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge my breed at their first all breed Challenge Certificate Championship Show. Also, my ring stewards who kept my ring moving along nicely, and most of all the exhibitors for their entries and attendance. I was pleased that all pads were free of cracks, and all mouths were good, it was also pleasing to see that the size in general is getting back to the breed standard. We do not want an Airedale or a Wire Fox Terrier, I found front movement on the whole getting some what better, but hind movement needs improving and so does muscle tone.

1. Bamsey’s Holbam Celtic Wizzard, 8 months old and really enjoying his day out, nice size, well balanced head with flat skull, well set ear carriage and dark almond shaped eye giving a true Irish expression. Fair length of neck nicely arched into a good lay back of shoulder, not quite so muscled yet this should come with maturity. Moderate length of back, with ribs well laid back, good tail set. I liked the well angulated hindquarters which gave him good drive for one so young. Good feet, coat and colour. Moved well when settled. BP and Res.CC.

2. McSally’s Mister Malachi. 11 months, Head of correct proportions and well filled under the eye, strong muscular jaw, well set ears used to give a good expression, fair length of neck, shoulders long and flat and again not quite muscled up. Longer cast than 1, fair angulation in hindquarters, moved ok, would have preferred a coarser coat.

JD. (3)

1. Averis, Barker and Hardman’s Ch Red Lucifer At Bonosue. I liked the whole balance and size of this dog, what I saw with my eye was confirmed when going over him on the table. Long head and narrow in cheek, flat skull, well filled under the eye, well set ears and a dark almond shaped eye complemented the distinctive Irish Terrier expression. Long neck into flat well muscled shoulders, well laid back, deep chest moderate length of back with strong loin. Well set tail with plenty behind. Strong well angulated hindquarters with plenty of muscle in the second thigh. Hocks well let down, correct coat and well presented, moved with drive and purpose. CC and BOB.

2. Price’s Magairlin Silver Spur. 11 Months. Liked the head on this youngster, long with no sign of cheekiness, flat skull with well placed ears giving a good expression. Long neck into well laid shoulders, Brisket needs to drop a little but that should come with maturity. Good tail set with plenty behind, moved well.

3. McSally’s Mister Malachi.

PGD. (2)

1. Simons’ Saredon Red Berry. Well balanced head but would prefer better ear placement, strong jaw, fair length of neck into well laid back strong shoulders, deep chest, moderate length of back with well muscled loin, good tail set, strong hindquarters with hocks well let down, harsh coat, moved very well.

2. McSally’s Mister Malachi.

LD. (3. 1)

1. Blower’s Turith Adonis. Well balanced head correct ear placement, dark eye and strong jaw, moderate length of neck, good lay back of shoulder. Fair length of back, with well muscled loin. Hindquarters strong with moderate angulation, hocks well let down, harsh coat, well presented, moved well.

2. McSally’s Mister Malachi.

PB. (3).

Two very promising puppies in this class, litter sisters who may well change places as the shows go on, making this a close decision on the day just preferred the movement and coat of one.

1. Redmans, Holbam Celtic Little Minx. 8 months Head of correct proportions, flat skull with correct ear placement, almond shaped dark eye, giving a true expression. Good length of neck nicely arched into long well laid back shoulders, there is no expectation of muscle at this point in one so young. Moderate length of back, tail set ok, hindquarters nicely angulated and firm, well presented in good coat, moved well.

2. Ruffles and Williamson’s Holbam Celtic Erin. Again, head of good proportion, flat skull with well set ears, fair length of neck flowing nicely into fine shoulders, good top line, tail set ok, I would prefer to see more strength in the rear assembly, coat coming through, moved ok.

JB (4. 2)

1. Redman’s Holbam Celtic Little Minx.

2. Rhodes’ Magairlin Silver Dawn At Ghyllslap, Nicely balanced bitch with sound movement, good head proportions, nice dark almond shaped eye, that just had that Irish mischievous look giving a good expression, fair length of neck, shoulders could be a touch finer, strong top line and loin. Well angulated hindquarters, with good muscled second thigh, harsh coat, well presented, moved well.

PGB. (2).

1. Price’s, Magarlin Black Magic Woman. Liked the head on this bitch, long and narrow in cheek, flat skull with correct ear placement, well filled under the eye with strong under jaw, fair length of neck and a deep well muscled chest, back of moderate length with a good tail set, and plenty behind, well angulated hindquarters, harsh coat, moved well.

2. McSally,s Ailtine Brilliant Light. Long head, flat skull, would prefer more fill under the eye, good reach of neck, longer cast the 1, well angulated rear assembly, coat needs to be a little wirier, moved well.

LB. (3. 2)

1 McSally’s Ailtine Brilliant Light.

OB. (7. 1)

This was a very strong class of quality bitches, which is promising for the future of our breed.

1. Price’s Magairlin Adhmor Queen. This bitch has attributes that gave her the class and CC. Well balanced, racy and movement. A super head, long narrow and of correct proportions with just the right amount of fill under the eye, flat skull with correct placed ears, combined with a dark almond shaped eye, giving a true Irish expression. Elegant neck with slight arch flowing into well laid back shoulders combined with a deep chest, a moderate length of back giving the correct racy appearance. Correct tail set with plenty behind, well angulated hindquarters with a strong second thigh, hocks well let down, Moved straight both ways with drive and purpose. CC.

2. Pratt’s Saredon Leading Lady of Terrijay. Another quality bitch of good type. Lovely head of correct proportions, dark eye and well placed ears, flat skull well filled under the eye, fair length of neck with a well muscled deep chest, strong firm back and loin, tail bang on top with plenty behind, moderate angulation, hocks well let down, lovely harsh coat well presented moved well. Res. CC.
