IRISH JUDGE DARLINGTON 21

This was my last judging appointment and I am now retired so it was very pleasing that both my CC winners made up to champion on the day.

It’s was also pleasing to see the breed no longer on breed watch. Nobody ever found hyperkeratosis in the show ring. It is early onset and on all four feet of affected dogs. About ½ dozen carriers have been identified by genetic testing. All credit to breeders - not breed watch.

People will know that I am not looking for a short back and level top line but a typical traditional Irish Terrier which is what we had today.
All exhibits were in good coat and condition with good dark pigmentation and sound feet. More or less have to forgive tail carriage since the docking ban.

VD (1)

1 ATKIN, Mr R & ATKIN, Mrs J Gengis Khan . Liked his very typical head and ears. Carries his age well -good that he has kept his racy outline into his veteran years. Small testicles can be forgiven at his age. BV

PGD (1)

1st: 345 COOK, Mrs M Montelle Royal Star. Head expression and overall stance sharpened nicely when he perked up. Particularly noted good pigmentation, bend of stifle and very strong teeth.

LD (1)

1 GRANT, Mrs S A & HEMMINGS, Mr I Courtington Ten Sovereigns. Loved his outline with slightly slopping croup accentuating slight rise over loin –very much my type. Pushed hard for the ticket but CC winner moved slightly more parallel on the day. RCC

OD (3,1)

1 ANDERSON, MR K Ros Michelin at Kerrykeel. Nice outline, exceptional good straight front, lovely head and expression. Had the edge on movement. CC BOB

2 COOKE, Mrs A Star Du Neufmoulin for Montelle (Imp Bel) Love his dark ears. Quality Irish in every way could be the winner on a different day..

PB (2)

1 THOMAS, Mrs G W Sunnystone Bright Light at Montelle. 8 months and coming together nicely in neck, shoulders and rib cage. Moved well, good head and all the essentials - one to watch in the next few months. BP

2 HOWARTH, Mrs A L & HOWARTH, Mr D Niddrua Full Force Gale. 9 months but maybe at a bit of an in-between stage, not as balanced as winner at the moment, principally chest needs to drop and neck extend. Good head and ears and particularly noted good bend of stifle.

PGB (2)

1 HOBSON, Mrs K Erredwiltsir Shine a Light. Very nicely balanced bitch overall very worthy winner of the - RCC

2 CHILVERS, Mrs C Kenynten Chasing Rainbows. Very nice typical Irish in all departments but just a touch heavier in shoulders than winner.

OB (3)

1 THOMAS Mrs G W Montelle Light The Way At Sunnystone. Top quality all-round and nice size nearer to the standard than many are nowadays. Moved and showed well.CC

2 HOBSON, Mrs K ERREDWILTSIR IRISH BELLS Unlucky to meet the winner, beat 3 on expression, her kennel mate was using ears better in previous class but liked her a lot.

3 ATKIN, Mr R & ATKIN, Mrs J Ch Holbam Celtic Summer Sh.CM ShCEx.

Ron Punter Judge.
