Crufts 25 Judge
|
IRISH CRUFTS 25 It was an honour and privilege to judge my breed at Crufts. My thanks to my two stewards and to the exhibitors who came from far and wide and accepted my decisions in good nature. I was looking for a racy dog with the proper Irish Terrier head and expression which sets the breed apart from the other trimmed terriers. I was pleased to find this in my principle winners and the overall standard and presentation of the exhibits was excellent. I found no cracked pads or bad mouths. DCC & BOB: Multi Ch/Nordic Ch Smox His Majesty (Skalberg) RDCC: Kerrykeel Damhaic (Anderson), BCC: Royal Ruby’s Nice the Spice (Schmidt), RBCC: Demogorgon Breathing Lightning (Yalanska). BP: Saredon Runaway (Ryan) BV: Ch Holbam Celtic Summer (Atkin) VD (3) 1. INT/SW/FIN/EST/CH. Red Lucifer of Bonasue (Hardman) Seven year old dog with typical head and correct ear placement with a dark eye. Straight front with good spring of rib and strong back end. Tail on top. Moved well and in good coat. 2. INT/FIN/EE/LV/LT/BALT/CH. Zing Up Carmen Tapiovaara (Soini & Hummelin) Nine year old dog, same comments apply as the winner but preferred the movement of 1. 3. Fcs CH Lorian Du Paradis D’Oliver (Malthet-Fleuron) Nine year old dog, shown in good coat and condition. Not so good in head as 1 and 2. Moved a bit close behind. PD (3) 1. Saredon Runaway (Ryan) Quality 9 month of correct size with racy outline. Straight front and good lay of shoulder, level topline. Ideal tail set. Long head with good expression and correct ears. Shown and trimmed well, moved true when settled. Best Puppy 2. Apispolb Solstice Druid (Chilvers) 10 months, well put together with nice length of head and correct ear placement, dark eye giving a proper expression. Nicely proportioned, in good coat and moved well. 3. Erredwiltsire All For Love (Hobson) 9 months, adequately constructed and well presented. Ears need to settle. JD (4) 1 CH. Lodgecroft Singing Master (Richards) 17 months, top quality dog and a worthy champion. Racy in outline with along head, dark eye and ears on top. Good feet, straight front, fair length of neck and good layback of shoulders. Level topline with spot on tail set. Strong back end and moved straight both ways. Trimmed and shown to advantage. Considered for top honours in the challenge. 2. Apispolb Fleet Street (Chilvers) Ten months old (litter brother to 2nd in puppy dog) Much the same comments as his brother, lost out to winner on maturity. 3. Ivy Blue Red Moonlight (Lee) PGD (4) 1 Galahad’s Guardian Magic Maverick (Flessner) 16 month, pleasing outline with okay front and rear assembly. Good tail set. Lacking in leg furnishings with showed fine bone. Moved a touch close behind. Handled well. 2. Blarney Hot Cross Bun (Thomas & Print) 22 months, attractive racy outline with good head. Dark eye and ears. Better off for bone than 1 but preferred shoulders of winner. Moved well. 3. Brucephela Quito Berry (Simons) 2 year old in good coat & furnishings, preferred topline of 1 & 2. LD (5) 1 Modann Mahogany (Harte) Smart two year old, of good size & symmetry, presented in good coat and colour. Satisfactory front and angulated rear, tail set okay. Nicely proportioned head with dark eye and correct ear set but carried rather high. Moved soundly and quietly handled. 2. Correct forequarters, nice neck and shoulders. Strong back end and moved well. Tail set good. Not shown to best advantage. 3. Holbam Midsummer Knight at Ruffmar (Ruffles) OD (8-1) First and second are both excellent of different types but meeting the standard. 1. MULTI CH/NORDIC CH. Smox His Majesty (Skalberg) Star of the day, top quality, imposing, masculine dog with a racy outline. Commands attention. Excellent long head, flat skull, dark eye, small well set ears giving a lovely expression. Straight front, tight feet, correct neck & shoulders, level topline. Deep chest and good spring go rib. Body of ample length with nice length of loin. Well angulated back end with plenty behind the tail which is well set. Moved beautifully and shown in excellent coat and hard condition. Good from end and body of ample length. Well angulated rear with tail on top. Moved well. Lacked coat on the day, a dog that I really liked. Still to fully mature and no doubt will be made a champion. Reserve CC 3. Ir.Ch Megacant Ceannaire A worthy champion unlucky to meet 1 & 2 on the day. VB (5) 1 Ch. Holbam Celtic Summer (Atkin) Eight years and a worthy champion, presented in good coat & condition. Moved well. Racy outlook, level topline and tail set excellent. Best Veteran. 2. PB (6) 1 Niddrua The Temptress (Howarth) Quality eight month, correct size, shown with good harsh coat with ample furnishings for such a baby. Liked her head with a pleasing dark eye and correct ear set. Well constructed with level topline and tail bang on top. Moved very well for a youngster. Close decision for best puppy. 2. Apispolb Standing Stones (Chilvers) Ten month and another nice puppy, same litter as puppy dogs who have the same attributes. Unlucky to meet the winner. 3. Pear Tree Primrose (Jones) Nine month of nice type and good shape & size. Feminine head with correct ears. Needs time to mature. JB (4) 1 Demogorgon Breathing Light (Yalanska) Excellent eighteen months of the correct size. In good coat and of dark colour. Feminine and racy outline, like her head and expression. Straight front legs with tight feet. Ideal neck and shoulders into level topline. Proper tail set plenty behind. Moved well fore and aft. Reserve CC 2. Eata The Great with Brazan (Lovelace) Fouteen months, correct for size, in excellent coat and well presented. Okay head, body and back end. 3. McFinn’s Betsy Boo (Kennedy) Eleven month, giving a lot away on maturity to the two above but a likeable type all the same. PGB (4-2) 1. Originelle Orla (Good) Two years, okay for size and symmetry. Short of coat and furnishings. Moved okay. 2. Pinleygreen Joy (Hardman) Twenty two months, shown in good coat and condition. Moved okay. Preferred neck length of winner. Needs to mature. LB (13-1) A lovely class to judge and I needed more first prizes. 1 Galahad’s Guardian Kiss of a Blossom (Flessner) Two year old of correct size, beautiful head and expression, straight front with fair length of neck flowing into correct sloping shoulders. Nice length of body with tail on top, strong hind quarters and well let down hocks. Good free movement both ways. Well handled and considered for the Reseve CC. 2. I’m Still Jenny From The Block (Foyle) Twenty months, very smart youngster. Racy in outline with a great head and correct expression. Dark eye and well set ears. Lovely neck and shoulders with a straight front, pleasing spring of rib with good length of loin. Excellent tail set with well angulated powerful hind quarters. Shown in good coat with correct furnishings and shown in top condition. Excelled on the move, coming, going and in side profile. Covered the ground well. I thought she was my winner but unfortunately lost concentration towards the end of the class. 3. Holbam Celtic Rose (Atkin) Two and half year old, of excellent type, presented and handled well. Correct head and expression. Good symmetry. Moved okay. OB (13-2) A terrific class to judge full of top quality bitches. 1 Royal Ruby’s Nice The Spice (Schmidt) Very impressive twenty month old bitch of excellent proportions, lovely side profile when stacked. Straight front with tight feet. Great head with keen expression. Elegant neck, well ribbed body and level topline. Strong angulated rear end with good turn of stifle. Correct tail set. Covered the ground on the move, shown in top condition and with a well trimmed coat. Well handled. A credit to her owner and breeder. The one to take home. Bitch CC and a close decision for Best of Breed. 2. JPN Ch. High-Cross Jp Miu Saredon (Kikuta) Different type to the winner but nevertheless a top quality bitch. Excellent head and front, deep chest and good strength of loin. Correct tailset and back end. Moved freely. Very showy but when baited kept looking up and appeared upright in shoulder. Which isn’t the case. Would have like more coat and furnishings. I understand she is stopping in the UK to be campaigned and is sure to be made up. 3. Ch. Norakim Tango of Newguild (Bentley) A worthy champion and unlucky to bump into the two above. I judged her as a puppy and is now the mature finished article. Lovely type of Irish, shown in excellent coat and hard condition. Good head and front, well ribbed body and strong back end. Furnishings were of good quality. Overall, nicely proportioned throughout and well constructed. Moved positively both ways and in profile. GOOD CITIZEN B (3-0) 1 Amberville Born To Fly (Couilliard) Typey bitch shown in good coat and colour. Okay construction and moved well. 2. Ivy Blue Crinkles (Lee) Decent type of good size with pleasing outline. Nice head but tended to fly ears. Sound body and rear end. Shown in good coat and condition. Moved tidily. 3. Holbam Celtic Kate (Nolcini) Twelve years old and a credit to her owner. Had to give way to the youngsters today. Mr Ivor Hemmings (Courtington) |
