IRISH JUDGE CRUFTS 16

Irish Terriers

I very much enjoyed my day at the 125th Crufts show, 55 years after my first visit. Thanks to my very able stewards. I found no cracked pads, or any other health concerns. All temperaments were excellent. The quality was mixed in some classes, but overall the depth of quality was greater in the bitches. I was delighted with all my winners.

VD (2)

1 Rundle’s Ch Sidewater The Pretender, 8 years, long head, with dark eyes & very good expression. Well laid shoulders. Strong quarters. In very good jacket. Moved well;

2 Andersson’s Ch Kerrykeel Ronan, 9 years, long lean head, good neck in to well laid shoulders. Racy outline. Not the coat of 1 & going rather close behind.

PD (0).

JD (4)

1 Delaney’s Carliams Red Dawn, well made with good layback. Racy outline, strong quarters, moved well. Very good coat & furnishings. However would prefer longer foreface & leaner skull;

2 Ruehl’s Allerbester von der Emesmuhle, smaller. Good shoulder, straight front, harsh coat. Good movement when settled. Failed in head;

3 Cooke’s Montelle Carvillius Gold, taller, pleasing head. Another in good coat. Rather upright in shoulder & would like more turn to stifle.

PGD (7)

1 Bayliss’ Kerrykeel Oisin, tall, nice head, dark eye, good ears. Good neck into well laid shoulders, straight front. Short of coat. Went well, though needs more muscle;

2 Parry’s Holbam Celtic Prince, top size. In good body. Nice neck & shoulders. Fair head, good earset. Rather bold in eye, which could be darker. Moved well in front, but close behind;

3 Schneider’s Landscapers Herr Der Ringe, good size. Very good harsh coat, short of furnishings. Pleasing head with small dark eye & well set ears. Moved well.

LD (2)

1 Landscapers Herr Der Ringe;

2 Redman’s Applerock Lord Stefan, good coat on body, soft furnishings, pleasing length to head, but rather wide in backskull. Would like smaller & darker eye. Good quarters, but rather upright in shoulder.

OD (7,1a)

1 CC & BOB, Averis & Barker’s Ch Lakeridge Cahal, well known dog with such ring presence. Super coat & furnishings, excellent presentation. Good head, small expressive dark eyes, very good ear carriage. Lovely neck, well laid shoulders. Straight front. Well ribbed. Strong well muscled quarters. Hocks well let down. Powered round the ring. Shortlisted in group;

2 RCC, Delhommais’ Fr Ch Beddy Gelert Great Gelert, lovely r/wh. Long lean head, small dark eye giving very good expression. Well laid shoulders, straight front. Racy outline. Strong quarters, moved very well;

3 Lovelace’s Int Ch Brazan Manitoba, smaller type. Very good colour & coat. Pleasing foreface, but tad heavy in backskull. Dark eyes. Ribs rather sprung. Would benefit from moving at a faster pace.

GCD (2)

1 Wall’s Saredon Red Hot Attraction, reserve in PG class. Good coat & colour. Expression spoilt by flying ears. Well made body. Went well; 2 Bowman’s Royal Wells Brayan Ember, rather soft in coat. Good length to back. Bit heavy in skull. Moved OK.

VB (5,1)

Lovely class of oldies. Placings were close.

1 Kamphuijs-Scheffer & Kamphuijs’ Dutch/Lux/Int Ch Merrymac Heaven Can Wait, lovely r/wh of 7 years. Harsh coat, with good furnishings. Very good head & expression, with dark eye. Racy outline. Good neck, flowing into well laid shoulder. Straight front. Strong quarters. Very good mover;

2 Ruffles’ Ruffmar Bronzed Ballerina, 9 years. Smaller. Feminine head with dark eye & good expression. Pleasing neck & shoulders. Presenting very good outline. Good coat & colour. Moved well;

3 Nevill’s Courtington Elena at Rosemonelle, neat 8 year old. Put together well, if a bit upright in shoulder. Lethargic on move & short in coat.

PB (2)

1 BP, Price’s Magairlin Adhmor Queen, most promising 10 months. Beautiful head with expressive dark eye. Lovely neck & shoulders. Straight front. Racy body. Good quarters, moved very well. Shall watch her progress with interest;

2 Hardman’s Bonosue Painted Lady, 10 months. Another very nice pup. Rather immature at present. Pleasing head, neck & shoulders. Front movement rather high at the moment, has time on her side.

JB (10,3)

1 Bowers’ Lakeridge Ceallach, just out of puppy & most promising. Very good headpiece. Good coat, colour & furnishings. Pleasing neck & shoulders. Racy outline. Muscular quarters. Very good on the move. Hope she won’t grow on;

2 Hargreave & Dancer’s Montelle Sirona Flame, smaller frame. Another in good coat. Would like finer skull, but dark eye & good expression. Good length to back, strong quarters. Went well;

3 Stahler & Nichol’s Shallcombe’s Shenanikins, pleasing head & expression. Slightly heavy over shoulders, which affected her front movement. Good quarters.

PGB (9,2)

1 Atwell’s Xanwill Sorceress, nice size. Lovely head with dark eye & good expression. Good lay of shoulders. Tad short of coat. Hocks well let down. Moved well;

2 Jones’ Montelle Sweet Dream, good size. Harsh coat. Pleasing head. Shoulders well laid back. Good quarters, but rather straight in stifle;

3 Schneider’s Lanscapers Hakuna Matata, very good coat & colour. Nice size. Pleasing length to body. Strong quarters. Would like a longer foreface.

LB (10)

Lovely class.

1 Price’s Sujoncla Dancing Orchid at Woodraith, beautiful r/wh. Long feminine head, with dark expressive eye. Lovely neck, flowed into well laid shoulders. Very good legs & feet. Presented racy outline. Well muscled quarters. Moved very well. Pushed hard for RCC;

2 Ruffles’ Holbam Celtic Whisper at Ruffmar, another pleasing exhibit. Excellent coat & colour. Lovely head & expression. Good neck & shoulders. Straight front. Ribbed well back. Strong quarters. Went well;

3 McGhaie’s Keillor Eversure Again, yet another very nice bitch. Many of the above remarks apply. Just not the presence of second.

OB (7,1)

1 CC, Barker & Averis’ Am Ch Irvonhill Leave It To Me, eyecatching. Super jacket & furnishings. Presented a lovely overall picture. Typical head with dark eyes & desired expression, carried on good neck into well laid shoulders. Straight front. Racy outline. Strong muscular quarters. Very good mover. In challenge for BOB dog just had the edge;

2 RCC, Wamsler’s Macrua’s One And Only, another lovely exhibit. Most of the above remarks apply, it was a very close decision. Liked her a lot;

3 Bamsey’s Ch Holbam Pearly Star, completed a lovely trio. Very nice all through, with lovely head & expression. Moved very well, just lacked muscletone.

GCB (1) 1 Hardman’s Kerrykeel Shauna, sorry no notes.
