IRISH CRUFTS 13 Irish Terrier Judge(s): DR A NOONAN Irish Terriers It gave me much pleasure to judge so many really lovely Irish Terriers & I was greatly impressed by the high standard of presentation in most of the dogs. Temperaments were all excellent but a little spirit & fire was missing in some. Mouths were all correct & feet in good order. All appeared to be healthy. VD (4) 1 Atwell’s Montelle Mr Sandman at Xanwil, impressive dog, excellent jacket of good colour, strong muzzle, eyes & ears correct, sound body, good tailset & topline, very smart, moved & handled well; 2 Cooke’s Lionwood Rowanberry, a dog of greater substance, strong bone & good jacket. Good ears & well placed eyes in a strong head. Good front & rear, well ribbed back, deep chest, good topline, moved well, in good condition; 3 Soeters’ Mac. PD (2) 1 Stahle & Nichol’s Shallcome’s Brian Boru, good head & expression, using ears well but a little unsure as yet. Good neck into correct front, well ribbed back & chest well developed for age, good topline & tailset, presented & moved well. BP; 2 Kiely’s Rock On Riley, very good head but ears held somewhat high at present. However, they are correct size & substance & should settle. Good coat. Body not so mature as 1 & movement reflected this & is still quite loose & puppyish. There is plenty of time to mature & this is a normal stage of development. JD (2) 1 Seabridge’s Ch Sujoncla Powder River, very smart appearance, impressive tailset, good head, well placed eye, nice width with flat skull. Ears held just above skull but not in the mood to use them which gave no animation to expression. Shoulders a little steep which may account for a slightly high stepping gait. Racy outline yet sufficient substance & bone, good feet, well ribbed back, correct loin, good topline, well balanced, lovely presentation & well handled. I wanted him to show some spirit & animation; 2 Rock On Riley. PGD (3) 1 Crehan’s Kerrykeel Daithi, impressive dog with sparkle & animation which he kept through to the challenge where he showed with the correct spirit of the breed. Lovely head, fine but still masculine, uses ears well, nicely placed eye of right size & expression, good coat, nice neck into correct front, good quarters, topline & loin, well ribbed back. Chest needs to develop more but this is a normal stage of development for a young dog. Tailset good, presentation & movement good, handled well. RCC; 2 Harper’s Sujoncla Eskiminzin, masculine, good head although not so fine as 1. Flat skull, good eyes & ears. Slightly larger dog & of more substance than 1 but presents a well balanced outline. Correct neck, front & rear giving good movement, especially good rear angulation, good tailset; 3 Redman’s Applerock Lord Stefan. LD (4) 1 Lovelace’s Brazan Manatoba, well presented, masculine dog, good coat & colour, well balanced, very good bone & substance, typical head, good eye placement & used ears well. Good front & rear, deep chest, well ribbed back, good topline & tailset, moved & handled well; 2 Rundle’s Sidewater Master Cruiser, smaller but very masculine dog, attractive head & a real Irish expression in his eye. Good ears, nice arched neck into good body, correct loin & chest. Slightly straight in shoulder with front movement a little wide but moves with speed & determination. I liked his expression very much & he is full of Irish spirit & temperament. Showing well; 3 Cook’s Montelle Ring Master at Terrahawk. OD (5) 1 Bissett’s Kerrykeel Enda, lovely dog of correct size, good head, nice length of muzzle, correct eye placement, ears used to advantage, good expression with spirit in his eyes, good bone & substance but still racy. Good feet, excellent jacket & presentation. Front & rear correct, deep chest, well ribbed back into correct loin & length of back. Well balanced, attractive dog, good outline, masculine with lively temperament, well handled. CC; 2 Canty & Harty’s Ir Ch Padfoot Gradamach, lovely Irish but larger than 1. Good head, ears & eyes, excellent jacket of very good colour, front & rear correct giving good movement, excellent tailset. Slightly bold expression but overall an impressive dog. Well balanced, of good substance & bone, very masculine, presented & handled to best advantage; 3 M Ring Master at Terrahawk. GCD 1 M Mr Sandman at Xanwil; 2 S Eskiminzin; 3 L Rowanberry. VB (4) 1 Williamson & Stirling’s Ch Montelle Mi’Lady, very smart & neat bitch, very well balanced, still keeping a good outline. Lovely head, very feminine expression, good ears used well & beautiful shape & size of eyes. Everything in good order & moved very well, good presentation; 2 Rundle & Batley’s Ch/Swe Ch Larkans Udda, remarkable 12 years old in excellent condition, good head, ears & eyes, well held topline, good front & rear quarters, moving well, good tailset. Slightly longer in loin than 1 but otherwise sound & still showing like a real trouper; 3 Wooding’s Sujoncla White Horse. PB (3) 1 Kiely’s Rosaline Ruby, lovely head, feminine expression. Ears of good size & placement but held high, hopefully will settle closer to skull with time. Good coat, body, ribs & topline, correct front & rear, moving well. Pigment of nose & pads should be darker but this may improve with warmer weather; 2 Bugden’s Applerock Lady Mable, younger puppy & much more immature. Very playful which is good to see at this age as she is enjoying the experience. Good head, eyes, ears & expression, feminine. Playfulness however caused her to roach back & made it difficult to assess movement or rear quarters. Plenty of time to develop & settle. JB (4) 1 Pratt’s Terrijay Whatever, lovely bitch, very feminine & well balanced giving good outline. Good head, flat skull, well placed ears & eyes, nice expression, good neck running into sound front, well ribbed back, correct loin & good rear end. Good bone & neat feet, moved well, in good order; 2 Fletcher’s Balirolyat Imelda Mayhem, attractive & feminine bitch, good head, well used ears & nice eye, good neck, deep chest, sound throughout, front & rear moving well, strong loin & steady topline, good r/wheaten coat, well presented; 3 R Ruby. PGB (7) 1 Bower’s Wyndam Rionach at Lakeridge, good size, well balanced outline, feminine but with good substance, excellent hard jacket, good head, neck & body. Slightly upright shoulders. Deep chest, well ribbed back, good firm loin & good tailset, moved & showed well; 2 Wooding’s Sujoncla Dancing Orchid at Woodraith, taller but still feminine. Atttractive head & expression, lovely shape & size of eye, moving ears well, good bone & overall conformation sound which reflected in sound movement, well presented; 3 Neville’s Rosemonelle Isabella. LB (9) 1 Kenyon’s Wynham Eithne, perfectly balanced, feminine, alert bitch showing well with plenty of spirit in expression & body language. Used ears well & the eye placement & size reflected a true Irish look. Good neck into sound body, all in good order with excellent tailset, good feet, moved correctly with animation. Pushed winner hard for the ticket as very little to separate two such lovely bitches. Excelelnt presentation. RCC; 2 Hemming’s Kerrykeel Roisin of Courtington, lovely bitch, nice outline, good coat, attractive head, well placed eyes & ears, good front & rear, steady topline, good strong loin, well ribbed back, well set tail, moved with drive, well presented; 3 Atwell’s Xanwil Mystical Girl. OB (1) 1 Barker & Averis’ Ch Fleet Street Fire And Ice, beautiful when standing or moving, so well balanced & feminine yet good substance & bone. Everything in good order, coat harsh & presented to high standard. Moving & showing to perfection. Pushed hard but could not deny her CC & BOB, then went to G3. GCB (2) 1 X Mystical Girl; 2 S White Horse. ALEX NOONAN |
