Irish Terriers

A very good entry for this breed. A breed I have been associated with since my teens when I spent time being trained in the famous Pathfinders Kennels of Norah Woodifield. In those post war days this was the fountain head of the breed, & a number of great chs were bred & handled by Nora, who incidentally, never ‘set a dog up’, just showed a dog, free standing on a loose lead. Looking at the breed today I find there are 2 distinct types. The old type I know so well, that has a certain racy look about it & a neater more compact type. Both in their way attractive to the eye but certainly different. I know people who keep this breed remain dedicated to it over years, for they say their loyal kind clever temperament cannot be bettered. A pleasure to judge some good dogs.

1 RCC, Montelle Vision In Red, up to size for age, sound mover coming & going, well presented, well balanced with the ideal racy appearance, can go to the top.

JD 1 no name given, in good coat. Needs to settle, just a little close in front movement.

LD

1 Holbam Winslow King, excellent jacket, well presented & not too skinned out on the body. Little close in front. Very good example;

2 Montell Mr Sandman, same excellent pattern. Shade long cast.

OD 1 CC & BOB, Ch/Am Ch Fleet St Fenway, this dog comes with great show record, neat well balanced, moving well, would not want him any smaller for a male, good head & eye, showing with the temperament of a real mick, well presented & pleasure to judge;

2 Ch Kerrykeep Ronan, not an easy decision as I love his type, in excellent coat. Front movement, let him down.

1 Kerrykeel Roisin of Courtington, good front, moving well, grand type & quality, like the dog puppy, promises to finish well.

1 Xanah Mystical Girl, pleased for size. Little upright in shoulder & needs to strengthen behind.

LB

1 CC, Montelle Ring Of Gold, top class, I hear ch today, racy, well presented in excellent coat. Pinned slightly in front but overall a lovely example of the breed. 2 Larkans Yasmin, Very feminine, good coat, smaller neater build.

OB

1 Am Ch Limericks Sancere, well presented, in good coat. Moved well but could stand firmer in front;

2 Allatsea Gift Of Gold at Marshcourt, the old type, close up here. Not so steady on the move. Her day will come.
