FOX WIRE JUDGE CRUFTS 22

I very much enjoyed judging Wire Fox Terriers at Crufts and considered it a great honour. My winners pleased me very much and I would like to complement the exhibitors for presenting the dogs in such excellent condition overall. Quality on the whole was however a little mixed giving much food for thought in some classes.

VD (4, 1)

1 Nielson’s GB Ch/ Dk Ch/Pl Ch/CIB Ch Ivonhill Cider Cup (Imp USA). Seven and a half yrs old, very masculine dog, long quality head, good ears, short back, good spring of rib, in excellent coat and condition, won this class with a bit in hand.

2 Harding’s Hardirosella Heartthrob. Another good headed dog, very hard coat, excellent outline, light in body and not the presentation of the winner, moved ok.

3 Williams’ Alkinra Wizard.

JD (2)

1 Ford & Burton’s Selvina Indiana. Sizeable young dog who needs to knit together in body and grow a new coat, long punishing head, very good ears, excellent hindquarters, must not grow any bigger.

2 Doyle’s Selvina Indigo. Litter brother to the dog above, not the head of the winner, but shorter in body, very good coat, needs to get his act together in the ring, but time is on his side.

PGD (3)

1 Kinson’s Viva Quality Casting Vote (Imp Rus). Very attractive dog of correct type and size, masculine head of fair length, good ears, small eye, short back, excellent spring of rib, coat in good order and he strode out well on the move.

2 Adshead’s Magsmoor Mr Topsy Turvy. Another pleasing dog of excellent breed type, good outline, well set tail, short back, stands a little wide in front, presented in excellent coat and condition.

3 Lewis’ Brocolitia Proud Poppa.

LD (6)

1 Schoneberg’s Paperman Hello. Top quality dog looking a picture standing, lovely head, eyes and ears, very good neck and shoulders, excellent set on, good quarters, coat in perfect condition, a serious contender in the challenge, but front movement must improve.

2 Valli’s Funfair Foxhouse. Another dog of quality, glorious head, superb outline, good neck, body and tail set, not quite the shoulders of the winner, but a close decision between two top class Wires, very well presented in somewhat fuller coat than the winner.

3 Calais Adriansen & Calais’ Prestige Royal Du Haillet Des Corneiredes.

OD (11, 2)

A very challenging class with great variation in type, size and breed points, ultimately headed by

1, Browne-Cole’s Ch Travella Secret Asset. Strikingly masculine dog with glorious neck and shoulders, long quality head without any hint of coarseness, small keen eye, good legs and feet, excellent spring of rib, well set and carried tail, coat in pristine condition, looked a picture with his clean outline when viewing his opposition! Dog CC.

2 Schoeneberg’s Tango von Den Schönen Bergen. Another beautiful dog, per fect for size and he too was in glorious coat and condition, long head, excellent eye and expres-sion, short back, very good hindquarters and tail, a difficult decision between two really good dogs, just preferred the better neck and shoulders of the ultimate winner. Res CC.

3 O’Donoghue’s Ch Blackdale Regent.

GCD (2)

1 Harding’s Hardirosella Heartthrob. See previous comments.

2 Doyle’s Selvina Indigo. See previous comments.

VB (4, 1)

1 Wynter & Hampton’s Jean De Cresecques Avec Furlongfox ShCM (Imp Fra). 7 yrs old bitch looked very well indeed and an easy winner in this class, excellent body properties, sound hindquarters, good hard coat, long clean head with keen expression, liked her overall balance and she won Best Veteran.

2 Harding’s Beekay Bellissima At Hardirosella. 12 yrs old and living proof that Fox Terriers are hardy resilient dogs! Fair head, good body and coat, a little stiff moving but appeared to enjoy her day out.

3 Harding’s Hardirosella Heart And Soul.

PB (3, 1)

1 Hughes & Ford’s Alkinra Had To Be (ai). 8 months baby puppy who needs to body up and she could have done with a little more bone, typical head, good eyes, ears need to settle, short coat of good texture, well presented. Best Puppy.

2 Seabury’s Salopaterris She’s A Dame. Not the overall quality of the winner and too long in body, coat needs attention and ears not her fortune detraction from head and expression, pleasing temperament and sympathetically handled.

JB (5)

1 Hanza’s Avena Lucy In The Sky. Mature young bitch with lovely outline, excellent head of great length, good eyes and ears, long neck merging into short back, well set tail, very good coat and presentation, liked her a lot.

2 O’Donoghue’s Blackdale Show Queen. Very feminine bitch whose overall type and balance appealed greatly, beautiful neck and shoulders, very short back, ultra-sound behind, pleasing head, ears need to settle, will trouble the best with time, failed a little on overall maturity here today and a little more coat would not have gone amiss.

3 Ford & Burton’s Selvina Isadora.

PGB (3, 1)

1 Walton’s Blackdale Irish Beauty. I liked this bitch very much and found her hard to fault on the table, lovely head, eyes and ears, good front, neck and shoulders, excellent body, coat and tail set, showed well, perhaps a fraction narrow behind going away but overall a very good bitch who made her presence felt in the challenge.

2 Seabury’s Coldrook Candy. Very different in most aspects and too long in body and short of neck, ok in head but heavy in ears and coat needs attention, good legs and feet, excellent temperament.

LB (4)

1 De Munter-Uiterwijk’s Spice Girl Van Foliny Home. The word balance is often used to describe top class dogs and this bitch is living proof that this can be achieved, perfect type, size and overall quality, typical head of adequate length, small eye, good ears, really excellent front, neck and shoulders, short back, very good body, hard coat in good order, moved with great freedom illustrating breed typical gait, never stopped showing and looked a picture. Bitch CC and BOB, delighted to see her shortlisted in the group where she put on a grand performance.

2 Hughes, Pearce & Duesmann’s Be’s Graycottage Pippa Johnes. Very typical good bitch, a little longer in back than the winner and she is quite heavily marked, long quality head, sound behind, good tail, coat and movement.

3 Cadez’s Pretty Pearl De Cresecques.

OB (10, 4)

Lovely class, but yet again with conservable variation, not least in size.

1 Nixon’s Ch Willowyre Whyte Magic. The more I looked at this very attentive bitch, the more I liked her, lovely overall type and balance, perfect size, good head, really excellent eye and expression, good body, coat, tail and hindquarters, clean neck where markings can be a little deceiving, very full of herself in the ring making the handler work hard, spir-ited mover. Res CC.

2 Browne-Cole’s Ch Travella Spotlite. Different in type and size to the winner but another quality bitch that I liked. Long quality head, good neck and shoulders, excellent body, coat and tail, not the hind movement of the winner but a close decision.

3 Wiggins & Westwood’s Ch Nethertonion Embrace.

GCB (2)

1 Harding’s Beekay Bellissima At Hardirosella. See previous class.

2 Harding’s Hardirosella Heart And Soul. See previous.
