FOX SMOOTH NATIONAL TERRIER 13 Judge(s): JENNY THORNTON (GLENDRATERRA) FOX SMOOTH JUDGE NATIONAL TERRIER 13 Firstly many thanks to the committee of National Terrier for giving me the opportunity to judge my breed at this prestigious show for terriers. Thanks also to my two ring stewards who kept everything running smoothly. The dog must present a gay, lively and active appearance are the words from the standard describing the characteristics of a Smooth Fox Terrier; on the tiptoe of expectation is another phrase synonymous with the breed. This as well as breed points need consideration when assessing Smooths. Too many exhibits seem to rely on the handler to place feet and set them up as you might expect from some of the gundog or working breeds. Nothing looks better than a Smooth when he is showing himself off and posing naturally. Thanks to the exhibitors for a lovely entry-----40 in these times is a good number and only 4 absentees. Sadly very few puppies reflecting the lack of registrations in 2012. Hopefully there will be a few more bred during 2013 and maybe more youngsters in the ring later in the year. MPD (1,0): 1. Griffiths Yoxella Wiki Leaks. B/w youngster, very promising, good head, body bone, legs and feet. Moved and showed well for his age. Well handled. Hope he does not grow on. A lovely way to start the day. BP PD (No Entries) JD (4,0): 1. Hannar s Borovale Kazbegi. Lightly marked t/w youngster who is just out of puppy. Lovely make and shape, good head, neck and shoulders, excels bone, legs and feet. Presents a lovely picture and maintains his top line on the move. CC and BOB, his first such award. Congratulations to his sporting owners. 2. Baker s Tuskenraider Blaze of Glory. T/w dog of good shape. Good length of head, pleasing neck and shoulders, good bone, legs and feet. Not quite as assertive a showman as 1. 3. Clifford s Migley Llywelyn. Novice Dog (No Entries) PGD (3,0): 1. Jones Dobelands Wild at Heart. T/w short coupled dog with good body shape. Decent head with well carried ears. Moves OK fore and aft but would prefer more drive in profile. Showed well. 2. Stahle and Nicholls Dobelands Licence to Thrill. Lightly marked b/w with lots to like. Pleasing headpiece, level top line, moves OK. Not using his ears today and I would like a little more of him all round. Well-handled and showing correctly off the end of the lead. 3. Cook s Borovale Jester. LD (2,0): 1. Warmenhoven s Belfox Larzak. T/w dog with an excellent head and ears and shown in sparkling form. Good bone, legs and feet. Moved well going away but unfortunately his front movement did not please which was disappointing. 2. Chalker s Cario Dixi Moy. Aged 7 years this b/w has never lost his quality head. Somewhat rushed into the ring so not really giving his best performance. OD (7,2): This was a difficult class with varying types and sizes, some lacking substance others having too much. 1. Smith, Boyes and Jones Am Ch Absolutely Out of Sight (Imp USA). B/w of typical American type and showing all the time. Good head and ears. Moved OK. A little light all round both in body and bone but did enough to gain Res CC. Handled to advantage. 2. Feltham and Wilson s Ch Lizoni Cadellins Romance. The breed s latest Champion and shown in good coat and condition. Well boned with lovely legs and feet. Precise enough mover but I felt today he was somewhat lacklustre in his showmanship. 3. Hall s Gosel Ceylonesse. MPB (2,0): 1. Brookes Zetamaz Talk of the Town. Pretty headed b/w puppy aged 8 months. Good front. Needs more body condition which hopefully will come with time. Showed well in the class but something had unnerved her before the challenge for BP which was a shame. 2. Clark s Canequiss Nippy Sweet. 6 month old b/w baby with pretty head. She enjoyed herself and was happy. Needs lots of time to come together in both make and shape and showmanship. Her young handler did a good job. PB (No entries) JB ((4,0): 1. Horspool s Adaires Delamarr. Just out of puppy this t/w is well bodied and grown. Good head and ears, moved well in front and in profile. Shown in super condition as you would expect from this kennel. 2. Brookes Zetamaz Leather and Lace. Good headed b/w. Enough neck, not quite the shoulders of 1 and needs time to develop. Showed and moved OK. 3. Dobelands Almost an Angel at Tamodan. NB (4,0): 1. Mesd Averis Dobelands Come Fly with Me. Very showy t/w who has good head and ears, nice neck and shoulders and short back. Tends to be a little proud of her tail but all in all made a pleasing picture. Moved OK. 2. Zetamaz Talk of the Town. PGB (4,0): 1. Ketley and Gash s Enjakay First Love. This t/w has a lot to like about her. Shown in tip top condition she has good head and ears, level top line which she carries well on the move. Just now needs to finish developing in body. 2. Adshead s Saredon Victoria s Girl. T/w of good type and well handled by her young owner. Good head and body shape. Moved OK but just a lacked a little bit of sparkle today. 3. Mullan s Saredon Angel Delight at Tamodan. LB (3,0): 1. Mesd Darbys Dobelands Candy Stripes of Classicway. Lightly marked t/w with good head and neat ears. Good body shape and well-conditioned and muscled. One of the better movers here today. Well deserved Res CC. 2. Chalker s Rio s Sparkling Snowflake. 7 year old showing well for her handler. Pretty head and ears. Level top line which she holds well on the move. 3. Anderson & Watt s Del Zarzoso Bad Romance (Imp). OB (8, 2): 1. Anderson, Watt & Smith s Am Ch Absolutely Sinful (Imp USA). Split faced all white bodied bitch of the correct size. Lovely head with enough strength of foreface, stands on good legs and feet, short coupled. Good top line both standing and on the move, showed well. BCC, her 3rd.Congratulations to all connections. 2. Brookes Dobelands Hot Totty at Zetamaz. Like the winner this all white bitch excels head and ears. She was in good body and bloom and moves OK carrying herself well and keeping her top line. It is a pity that she is just inclined to drop her tail when she is on the stand which lost her the 1st place. 3. Jones & Smiths Ch Darlaur Dyma Fi. Jenny Thornton (Judge)
