FOX SMOOTH JUDGE MANCHESTER 17

Smooth Fox Terriers

Thank you to Manchester for asking me to judge the gentleman of the canine race. I must admit to being a little disappointed in the overall quality as compared to my last appointment. However, I was more than pleased with my principal winners.

PD (3,2a)

1 Brookes’ Zetamaz Storm Warning, b/w quality puppy. Nicely headed male with good eye & correct chiselling further enhanced by correct ear carriage. Good bone. Clean front. Correct shoulder placement. A little longer cast than I would like but he has time on his side & may just yet tighten up. Plenty behind the tail. Good hindquarters. Moved well.

JD (2,1)

1 Baker’s Roxway Extra Time at Tuskenraider, b/w youngster of good type. Correct head & pleasing eye. Correct ear carriage although I would like them a little less heavy to complete the picture. Clean front with good bone & feet. Could do with a fraction more length of neck to enhance his outline. Well bodied with good rear angulation. Moved OK.

PGD (1)

1 Dolman’s Yoxella Without Equal at Zebec, b/w. Long lean head with keen eye. Good strength in underjaw. Ears correct size & thickness but could be a little higher set to complete the picture. Nicely sized male with pleasing silhouette. Good bone. Plenty behind the tail. Feet not at tight as required which rather spoilt the overall picture. Sound on the move.

LD (0).

OD (4)

1 Broom & Crouch’s Ch Oaxaca Del Boy with Roxway, he annexed the RCC last time I judged. My opinion of him has not changed & nice to see how he has matured on. This dog has a lovely length of head with a good strong jaw. Lovely correct eye size & placement & he is ideally chiselled. He remains masculine yet presents the classical outline that we are somewhat losing which relies on that long length of neck into a short level back. He is well ribbed & well coupled. Good bone & super feet. Good hindquarters & well developed second thigh. Plenty behind the tail on this one. Moved well. I have already said that I would like slightly more lift in his ears to complete the picture & that still detracts from an otherwise very good dog. Very happy to award him higher honours today. CC;

2 Thornton, Bebbington & Murray’s Glendraterra Garcon, t/w. Have seen this dog ringside on a number of occasions & really not been sure of what to make of him although he is out of a bitch that I admired. It would be no surprise to say that he does not have the type of head & expression of the type that I typically love, however that said, it is very correct & balanced with good eye & ear & strength of jaw. This dog needs to be gone over to appreciate his virtues, which are those of a good balanced dog with correct bone & substance. Clean front, good shoulder, excellent rib & short back. Well muscled up behind & very true both coming & going with good drive. RCC;

3 Schoneberg’s Ch Nero vd Schonen Bergen.

PB (4)

Not the easiest class to judge with 4 quality bitches all of differing type & stages of maturity. I am sure all 4 will change places on a number of occasions through to adulthood.

1 Hughes & Butcher’s Belfox Paris, light t/w bitch. Very pretty head with lovely head proportions. Correct neat dark eye, lovely chiselling & correct placed ear. Overall a lovely shape although still needs to body up & shorten. Super long elegant neck. Correct shoulder. Clean front with good bone & feet. Moved OK. Showed well at all times. BP;

2 Jacques’ Lady Daisy of Jacqspot, all white, very raw young puppy. Needs a fair bit of time to mature but could not be denied this placing. Has rather beautiful head with super small dark eye, the chiselling that is not seen as much as it should be. Reminded me of some of the good Mosvalley bitch heads & one of the few with that real varminty expression which defines this breed in my opinion. Correct length of neck, good shoulder, clean front & well off for bone. Lovely catlike feet. Plenty behind the tail. Took a while to settle into her stride but when she did was very correct & sound. Needs time;

3 Brookes’ Zetamaz Elektra Qute.

JB (4,2)

1 Thornton & Bebbington’s Glendraterra Black Eyed Pea, pretty split faced b/w by a good sire to whom I awarded his crowning CC to some years ago, & with many of his qualities past down. A real promising young bitch with a lovely make & shape. Good neck & shoulder & lovely & short. Good head & expression. Super front & feet. Moved well & with drive. With fair play should do well & make up;

2 Goodley’s Glendraterra Glad Rags, tri bitch & litter sister to 1. Many of the same qualities apply. Pretty head. Good make & shape. Well ribbed up. Short backed. Not quite the front reach of her sister on side gait.

PGB (2)

1 Hannar’s Tamedale Shakira at Borovale, b/w with a super long lean head yet with no loss of strength or with coarseness. Super keen real varminty expression. Lovely long neck into well placed shoulder. Clean front. Enough bone. Good topline & plenty behind the tail. Moved OK.

LB (3)

1 Davies’ L’Magali Du Manoir Saint Adrien of Mosvalley, not the most striking of bitches on first impressions but really lovely to go over on the table as she is so correctly made. Very correct in outline. Elegant long neck into perfect shoulder placement. Level topline although to be very hypercritical I would like her a fraction shorter to complete the picture. Good bone & feet. Excellent front assembly. Moved very soundly fore & aft & with drive. Considered for RCC although gave her handler a tough time in the challenge;

2 Morris’ Sanamaris Step Lively, b/w quality bitch & my RCC winner last time. Still much to admire. Super headpiece with correct eye, chiselling & ear placement. Giving her the desired varminty expression. Super clean neck into good shoulders. Good bone & typical catlike feet. Good body with excellent hindquarters. Just lost out to the first placed bitch as preferred her topline. Moved very well;

3 Arustamyan’s Flair Vd Bismarckquelle.

OB (5)

1 Baker & Jones’ Ch Darlaur Delaware to Tuskenraider, a new one to me. What a very typical & lovely bitch this is. She has the most lovely of expressions. Super head, eye & ear. Most classical in outline combing strength & elegance. Correct length of neck, super shoulder, & ultra short level topline. Excelled in hindquarters with correct turn of stifle & good development of second thigh. Good bone & feet. Moved with soundness & drive. An easy winner. Delighted to award her the CC & BOB. Pleased to see her shortlisted in the group were she was unlucky to place;

2 Arustamyan’s Zlotty De La Rosa with Yoxella, very pretty bitch with one of the best heads of the day. Clean elegant outline. Well ribbed. Good front & feet. Moved very well & tail on top at all times. Her expression kept drawing my attention. If I am critical I want her a little shorter. Did enough to annexe the RCC today;

3 Crouch & Murray’s Ch Oaxaca Racquel.
