DANDIE DINMONT JUDGE SOUTHERN COUNTIES 24

1. Kenyon’s Ceilmear Close Encounter. A mustard dog with a charming personality and large, strong teeth. Appeared to have a lighter eye than some, but still the correct round, soulful look. Deep chest, with neck flowing into good shoulders and rounded ribs. Well-developed hindquarters and angulated stifles. Harsh topcoat, but no undercoat on the day. BEST SPECIAL BEGINNER.

PUPPY DOG (2)

1. Tinsley’s Cloverwood Happy Daze. Absolutely fabulous and beautifully presented, as would be expected from this kennel. When his full furnishings are grown, he will be a real star. A pleasure to go. This mustard dog is quality throughout. Super head of correct proportions, with beautiful dark round eyes of correct size. Good neck into well laid shoulders. Strong boned and nice tight feet. Correct topline. Well-developed thighs and angulated stifles. Hocks well let down. Moved very soundly. Coat developing well. One to watch. I was delighted he came Third in the Terrier Puppy Group. BEST PUPPY & BEST DOG.

2. Allen’s Poppipetalz Backforgood. Quite a nice type, completely different to the above. First impressions were not so good but when handled there was a lot to like about this chap. His topline appeared flat but on closer examination, it was correct. Good ears and hindquarters. If presented more like the above he would be quite a different specimen. I see his sire is a champion I gave top awards at the breed Open show last year.

JUNIOR DOG (1)

1. Davies & Kettle’s Bettyhill New Kid in Town. A dog presented to perfection. Masculine head with prominent skull. A well-proportioned, solid body, well boned with plenty of substance. I would have preferred slightly more rise and fall of topline. Well-muscled strong hindquarters, with angulated stifles. BEST JUNIOR.

POST GRADUATE DOG (1)

1. Mills’ Lairdship Larger Than Life. Lovely, friendly personality. I would have preferred more of a flow to his topline. Good hindquarters with well developed thighs and angulated stifles. Corretly set tail, nicely carried.

OPEN DOG (2)

1. Karsen & Allenby’s Ch. Dariant Gladiolous at Karezig (IMP RUS). A very well-presented worthy champion, with a lovely temperament. An impressive looking dog of good type, presenting the correct Dandie outline. Nice head with good sized skull, not so masculine as some. True liquid eyes giving soft expression. Good bone, well-muscled and presented in hard condition, with nicely padded feet. Moved very soundly. Correct pepper coloured coat. RESERVE BEST DOG.

2. Kenyon’s Ceilmear Close Encounter. See above.

JUNIOR BITCH (1)

1. Redman’s Puddockswell Little Fig. Another with lovely temperament. Typical Dandie head of correct proportions. Nice broad, square skull with well domed forehead. Lovely large round dark eyes giving a soft expression. Very nice scissor bite. Good neck and shoulders. Body long, but at the correct length, nicely boned and muscled. Correct Dandie topline that was held well on the move. Appeared to be lacking in coat on the day.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (2)

1. Fry’s Mishanda Pearls a Singer. I felt she was more the old type of Dandie. She had an excellent mouth, but her head was different to the top winners of today. Perhaps the presentation could have been different. The coat texture was correct with a crisp feel to the topcoat and soft, linty undercoat. She had a super Dandie topline joining good muscled hindquarters and angulated stifles. She moved very soundly, although rather reluctantly at times, not showing true terrier spirit.

OPEN BITCH (4)

1. Tinsley’s Cloverwood As You Like It. What a quality Dandie bitch, who I felt should be a champion. Beautiful in every way. I thought everything was correct. She was presented and handled to perfection, expected from this kennel. She had so much quality in structure and coat. She was just as the breed standard states – Distinctive head with beautiful silky covering, with large, wise, intelligent eyes offsetting long, low, weaselly body. Short, strong legs and weatherproof coat. She had a strong, straight, fluent movement, reaching forward at the front and impulse from the rear. BEST BITCH & BEST OF BREED.

2. Jackman’s Dryfevalley Willow at Carnkie. I see I judged this bitch as a puppy. Very feminine, with correct overall shape. Well balanced head, of good proportions correct mouth, domed forehead, well placed ears and dark, round, melting eyes. Clean neck, flowing into good shoulders, with straight front. Correct Dandie topline. Well set tail. Coat could be better. RESERVE BEST BITCH.
