DANDIE DINMONT TERRIER
The entry of 61 dogs was very pleasing and it was good to welcome a number of newcomers to the Dandie world. The main problem that I found was movement both in front and behind. I was particularly surprised to find such a deterioration in hind movement since the last time I judged. Though I feel that over-flashy presentation should be discouraged - some of the exhibits could have looked so much better had they been groomed with a little more care. Mouths were good apart from one dog and temperaments were excellent and just stressed what a lovely breed the Dandie Dinmont is. There was a huge variation in eye shapes and colour. Some had eyes which were rather prominent - others that were smallish - and some were rather light. But in a way eye shape and colour are the least of our problems and we need to concentrate on conformation and movement. Size was, by and large, OK. MPD(4,1) This was a very difficult class to judge with three very immature puppies 1 Lowndes' Glendandy Star Catcher taf, Mustard, good size and shape and had a pleasing head with a good eye but his coat could have been better presented. Moved a bit better than the others in this class when we were able to get him going. By the time of the challenge he was much better behaved. Handler and dog need a bit more ring training. 2 Smith's Glendandy Starmaker, Pepper, heavier made dog and rather more mature than the winner, with overdone head furnishings and very little body coat which made him look lacking in balance. Better in mouth and in hind movement than 3. 3 Henry's Glendandy Shooting Star For Tymeirz PD (3) 1 Tinsley's Cloverwood Royal George Mustard, typical Dandie with a good head and eye. Scored in coat over 2 and presented with a better outline. Moved better behind than in front. Eventually won Best Puppy in Breed. 2 Morris' Cassencarrie Rumour Has It At Pennywave, Mustard, pleasing in head and expression, moved out well, longer in body which did not help his balance at this stage. Could be better in tail. 3 Glendandy Shooting Star For Tymeirz JD (3) 1 Bromley's Mishahda Volcanic Storm, Pepper, excellent head eye and expression, Good for size and balance and moved better in front than 2. Shown in superb coat of good texture, overall appearance spoiled a little by his tail. 2 Knapper's Maganbar Applejack, Mustard, scored in head over 3 and was good for size and overall shape. Not in quite such good coat as the winner. Moved well behind and had plenty of muscle 3 Hughes' Maganbar Magic Moment ND (1) 1 Stone's Ludlay Lord Of The Isles, Mustard, stood alone here. Rather up to size and carrying a bit more weight than advisable. OK in outline and moved out quite well maintaining his profile on the move. PGD(4,1 )1 Shore's Swanwillow Sea Captain, Mustard, typical in head shape and proportions with a good eye and expression. Correctly smaller than the others in this class and had a good body shape and outline, and was good in bone without being in any way overdone. Presented in very good coat and moved out better behind than in front 2 Ludlay Lord Of The Isles 3 Sleight's Cassencarrie Bobby Vee LD (7,3) 1 Hunter's Etsill Scapa Flow, Pepper, this dog had an excellent head and expression with a good muzzle with the right strength without being overdone in any way. Well presented and in excellent coat. Good balanced length with a typical Dandie outline and topline. Moved out OK once he got going. Went on to win the Dog CC 2 Keevil & Bullock's Yazga Love The One You're With, Mustard, shorter made dog with not quite the strength of head as the winner here. Had a very good outline and tail carriage. He was well presented and his coat was good and I felt that he scored over 3 in movement. 3 Hansford's Cassencarrie Bonnie Lad OD (7,3) 1 Rosenbaum's Int Ch German Dandies` Nevio (ATC AM00319DEU) Pepper. Excellent head and eye, good skull shape, correct stop. A bit overdone in outline and length. Coat OK with the correct texture but a bit over-presented in head. Showed very stylishly and moved out well. Went on to win the Res DCC; 2 Cadwallader's Bettymac Sun Samba, Mustard, pleasing in head, good shape and outline, did not move as well as the winner - particularly in front. Well presented and well muscled. 3 Ludlay Lord Of The Isles MPB (3) 1 Deacon's Swanwillow Signature, Mustard, very much a baby at only six months but very promising with a lovely head. Behaving just like a typical Dandie and not initially too enthusiastic. Excellent topline and tail, coat coming in well for her age. Was good in shoulder and scored well all round in this class. 2 Smith's Glendandy Twinkle Star, Mustard, another very young puppy with a typical head. Was unfortunately rather lacking in body coat. Moved our quite well 3 Heeler's Courtmoat Heilan Beauty PB(5,1) 1 Sleight's Cassencarrie Madelaina, Mustard, good for size and shape and was good in outline. She moved well in front and behind and, for their age, I preferred her size to that of the second. 2 Shore's Swanwillow She`s Hot, Mustard, attractive head with good eye and stop. Looked a little mature for her age. Good shape and outline and moved out OK. 3 Kinsey-Morgan & Hisl's Inzievar Gold Effect JB (5) 1 Tinsley's Cloverwood Dozen Roses, Mustard, a very pleasing Junior, good in head and expression with a feminine appearance. Good size, good typical outline with enough length without being overdone. Held her topline well on the move and went out and back well. Very promising youngster with a good deal of quality. 2 Bell's Kirkhalin Mystic Prudence, Pepper, still a shade immature in head as compared to the winner, good length of body and correct outline. Moved out well 3 Heywood's Cloverwood Day By Day At Schalulleke NB (2,1) 1 Hayes' Cloverwood Natural Blonde At Brandeezi, Mustard, stood alone, smallish bitch with a pleasing head and correct expression, moved fairly well but coat not at its best. PGB (4,1) 1 Booth's Cloverwood Candlelight, Mustard, well presented bitch in good coat. Pleasing in head, good body shape and tail carried well on the move. Scored over 2 in coat. 2 Bedford's Etsill Greenvoe, Mustard, one with a good outline and longer in body than the winner and not quite so good in eye. Moved out well for her young handler and, for the moment, did not quite have the coat of the winner. 3 Cloverwood Natural Blonde At Brandeezi LB (6,1) 1 Shore's Swanwillow Seabreeze, Pepper, bitch which is up to size and is very pleasing in head, skull and expression. Nice typical Dandie outline and moved out well and scored over the second in eye. Good presentation and well muscled all through. 2 Hunter's Etsill Inganess Bay, Pepper, smaller bitch which was shown in excellent coat, moved well behind, good outline with correct topline and good in rib. 3 Morris' Pennywave Amaryllis OB (4,1) 1 Tinsley's Ch Cloverwood Lemon Drizzle, Mustard, a quality bitch with a very pleasing head and expression without being in any way overdone. She has a typical quality Dandie outline with just the correct shape, size, topline and tail-set and carriage. Her head and body are in correct proportion which means that she presents a very typical and balanced Dandie appearance Shows herself off to best advantage and is a real show-lady. Bitch CC and Best of Breed. I was pleased later to see her taking the Best in Show award. 2 Rosenbaum's Int German Dandies` Naomi, Pepper, good bitch which was unlucky to meet such strong competition here. Typical in head and expression, excellent coat texture wit furnishings just a shade overdone. She moved out very well in front and behind and went on to win the Res BCC. 3 Hislop & Chapman-King's Inzievar Royal Silver Kate Irving |
