DANDIE NATIONAL TERRIER 09 Dandie Dinmont Terriers Judge/s:Paul Keevil (Yazga) Dog CC : FRANCE'S TORBRAE DANCE N DAZZLE DANDIE JUDGE NAT TERRIER 09 The introduction to a judge’s critique is usually an opportunity for a judge to offer his/her opinion as to the present state of the breed, with all sorts of well meaning & on occasion pretentious opinions based on their interpretation of the Standard. Well I absolutely adore this breed & everything about them. I have never enjoyed the element of judging where you have to pick winners & losers & in truth I loved all of the dogs who came under me, & I tried to give each one a special pat of thanks. But some have to be placed first, some second & some third. Thank you for entering your dogs under me, they were all a delight & please don’t feel bad if you didn’t get a red card because you get to take home a Dandie Dinmont anyway! PD (2) 1 Butcher’s Puddockswell Grey Granite for Daiszana, 11 months pepper, what a happy little chap he is. Good pepper coat with definition coming between the colours, good rear drive on the move. Perhaps a little stern high for his age; 2 Culverhouse’s Cassencarrie Gandalf at Lykath, good mustard coat coming if a little short. Nice length of body, nice head, good reach of neck. Needs to relax more on the move. JD (2) 1 Hulme & Hunter’s Hendell Alphonse with Etsill, lovely well balanced mustard, good head & expression, correct eye, coat & bite, nice bone, a dignified but earnest mover who carried his tail well; 2 Roslyn’s Wazzly Atlas, good old fashioned Dandie, in condition fit for a days work, weatherproof jacket. Perhaps colour needs to clear a little. Covered ground well. ND (3) 1 Hulme’s Vistca Vian of Hendell, correctly held scimitar tail when on the move which can be quite rare these days. Beautifully presented mustard coat, profuse topknot & good little mover especially behind, well balanced outline. 2 W Atlas. PGD (5) Good class. 1 France’s Torbrae Dance ‘N’ Dazzle, lovely correct sized mustard, loved his length, height, outline, coat, colour, head expression & personality. Indeed I found it difficult to take my eyes off him as I found him so striking. CC, his first, & BOB; 2 V Vian of H. LD (10) I got a bit of a shock to see 10 dogs in this class, just like the old days. 1 Carter’s Cassencarrie James Blonde, cracking mustard dog, a lot to like such as skull & mouth, balanced body shape, lovely mustard coat rounding off the picture, covered the ground well, great neck & shoulders, in tip top condition. Pushed hard for the RCC & on his day will trouble the best; 2 Tinsley & Macbeth’s Hendell Tom Smart at Cloverwood, really cracking little pepper, great jacket, really dignified mover, nice tight shoulders, good outline & in fit condition. A close call in this class. OD (2 ) 1 Deacon’s Am Ch Pennywise Burning Ambition for Cassencarrie, quality Dandie, sadly a bit short of coat which cost him in the final challenge. Good size, covers ground well with drive & purpose, really great reach of neck, well laid shoulders, nice outline, without a doubt his day will come soon. RCC; 2 Hows & Winch’s Mishahda Rhapsody In Blue, lovely pepper coat, nice contrast between body coat & furnishings, great temperament, good honest Dandie. PB (4) 1 Tinsley’s Cloverwood Razberry Ice, what a little stunner, the kind of puppy who instantly brings a smile to your face, ticks all the boxes in every department, so no need to list them here, tremendous poise for one so young, presenting a balanced package to the eye. BP; 2 Butcher’s Puddockswell Blawearie for Daiszana, real baby, full of puppy exuberance but still with her puppy coat. She needs time & I suspect will be a classic slow developer. JB (4) 1 Motler’s Wazzly Athena, correct sized mustard, lovely coat & outline, thin ears, good pigment. Despite the fact that she played up her handler a little, her qualities shone through enough to win this class; 2 Osbourne’s Pitfirrane Silver Lady of Braego, loved this little pepper’s tan legs & feet, so much that I could forgive to total lack of any ear tassels. Very workmanlike, good length & lots of rear drive. NB (2) 1 Hissey’s Schalulleke Dream Maker of Hellchuck, shown with very little coat & a nose which was reluctant to leave the green carpet but obviously enjoying herself hugely. PGB (8) 1 Denham’s Dentgate Serendipity, nice tight shoulders, good rear angulation, lovely correct pepper coat to finish the picture, strode out with purpose & kept outline well on the move while being shown on a loose lead; 2 Bromley’s Mishahda Tempting Touch, very pretty little lady, lovely pepper jacket, well domed forehead, dark eye, moved well. LB (6) 1 Green’s Inzievar Rose Gold for Abbeywater, well presented & handled, great little mover, great expression coming from good head & eye, balanced, lovely jacket, holding outline well on the move & pushed really hard in the final line-up which was so close. What a cracking little bitch this is, still very young, her day will come without a doubt. RCC; 2 Heywood’s Schalulleke Clara Jones, very feminine little bitch, correct outline & tail carriage, moved out & back beautifully on a loose lead. OB (5) 1 Shore’s Ch Swanwillow Savannah, top quality Dandie, lovely length, tail set & coat, good length of neck, nice tight shoulders, feminine head, beautiful expression to finish off the picture. Presented me with my most difficult decision of the day in the final line-up but her slighter greater length just tipped the scales. In reality I would have liked to have given two sets of CCs. CC; 2 Kerrush’s Ch Inzievar Gold Ring, quality Dandie & very unlucky to meet my two winners, worthy of the top honours. Quality coat immaculately presented, exceptional neck set on well laid shoulders, well handled which showed off her second movement a treat. PAUL KEEVIL |
