Crufts 26 Judge

DANDIE DINMONT CRUFTS 26 It is always a pleasure for me to judge Dandies at Crufts and l thank the committee so sincerely for inviting me. Dandies are such a pleasant breed for me to judge, on the table they really seem to appreciate you going over them. I had a very nice entry and thank the exhibitors and also for the long wait. Thankfully third in the ring wasn’t as bad as l had imagined it might be. As for the quality on the day l have to say was quite mixed, coats were not good in some cases, and that pegged otherwise nice dogs down a place or two. There more than a few with flat topline and again I penalised this quite heavily. What did concern me was the number of questionable mouths, mostly in males, not so much in the bitches. this really does need to be watched. I would like to thank my two lady stewards for all their efforts on the day, for them it was a long one, with three breeds, and l appreciated all their hard work. Sorry ladies I didn’t get your names. Good Citizen Dog Scheme D (4,1) 1 Cloverwood’s Storm Shadow (Baker & Denton). A pepper who was a nice size and type, really scores in neck and shoulder, good length of body though the topline was a little flat. Pleasing in head and expression, very nice large dark eyes, excellent in front. Very nice coat texture and nicely presented. Was sound both ways and nice action in profile. 2 Puddockswell Cashelblue (Giannetti). Another pepper and ok for size and balance, better in topline that my winner but not as good in neck and shoulder and also not quite as good in front and this showed when moving. His head is well balanced, again ok in expression, excellent mouth. Looked good moving in profile. 3 Busgrove Mikey (Prince) PD (2) 1 Finamor’s King of The Road at Bonnybeck (Sleight) I was really taken by this young mustard dog, lovely overall balance and type. Scores in head balance and expression, well placed ears, good in neck and shoulder, topline is correct and is well ribbed, excellent in front and with good bone. He is sound moving and really has a super driving action in profile. He was shown in superb condition and when it cam to the challenge l was still taken by him and he won the res cc and no doubting bigger green cards will come his way. Res CC2 Fabio Z Medunkové Stráne (Imp Cze) (Hoskisson & Hinds). Pepper and really still quite a baby against my winner, but at 9 mths something that maturity will change, just needs that time. Some nice dogs do, some don’t. First time l moved him he was not too good but he was much better second time round. His coat texture is good, though was a little open on the day. Has promise and as l said just needs more time. JD (2,1) 1 Sjobolyckans O’boy The One and Only Au/cze J Ch (Leszczynska) Another young mustard dog and with a really nice head and lovely soft expression, dark eyes, strong in muzzle, excellent mouth. His front is good and with good boner and nice feet. good in neck and shoulder and correct in topline and with a nice tailset too. At present needed to develop more in rib but then as l said he is young and maturity will change all that. Again coat was a good texture but needed a little more work on it. PGD (9) 1 Leesam Mr Blue (Lenaghan). A mustard who really scored in outline in this class, well ribbed, short in loin, excellent topline and carried his tail in the right place. A little silly when moved first, but then settled and moved very soundly, and in profile that really driver driving action. Very nice coat which was very nicely presented. 2 Cloverwood Total Legend (Bell). Pepper dog and very masculine in head and expression, dark in eye, strong in muzzle. His front is straight with good bone and nice feet. Good in neck and shoulder, good length of body but a little flat in topline. He is very sound and nicely handled to get the very best out of him. 3 Puddockswell Cashelblue (Giannetti) LD (9,1) 1 Kiti’s Band Take The Lead to Torbrae (Imp Cze) Ejw25 (France) A 20mths old pepper and a very striking young dog in outline, very typy dog and not overdone anywhere. Loved his head and expression, again nice dark eye, strong muzzle with excellent mouth. His front is good, good bone nice feet, good ion neck and shoulder, good length of body and correct in topline and at his age still need to mature in rib but that will come with time. Moves so well both ways and very collected in profile. It will be interesting to watch his progress through the year. 2 Cloverwood’s Storm Shadow (Baker & Denton) 3 Redgreet Coldstream Guards Into Pondfrox (Dolby) OD (8,1) 1 Pol Ch Kiti’s Band Road Runner Superbird Ww24 Euw23/24 (Ostrowski) When l first saw this mustard dog l was so taken with him for his type, size, balance and presentation. On the table he was quite lovely to go over. Not too big but so well balanced, my hands just floated over him. His head is copybook, correctly balance with dark expressive eyes, correct in muzzle and excellent out. He has just the right amount of neck with good shoulder angulation, good length of body and nice rise and was correct in rib and short in loin. On the move he was so collected both coming and going and in profile he really comes into his own. He was presented in sparkling condition and he well deserve the CC & BOB and l was delighted to see him short listed in the group where he received lots of nice comments, which right now the breed really needs. 2 Pol/cze Ch Pan Tau Canis Terra Pol Jch Jeuw24 (Miąsek) Another mustard dog and also nicely balanced. He scores also in neck and shoulder, well ribbed good length and again that nice soft rise over the loin, his tail was correct both standing and moving. His coat was a little short but it was of correct texture and nicely presented. 3 Ch Barton Dandies Charles Darnay (Imp Esp) (Milton & Kurg) VD (5,3) Veterans are not always the easiest classes to judge and today was no exceptiuon 1 Ir Ch Sjobolyckans Offensive Vanilla Coke (Rooney) My winner who is a 7 year pepper was is out of a smaller mould, could have had a little more body on the day but won the class on his soundness,.Ok is head type, excellent mouth, ok in front with good bone and nice feet. His coat texture was correct and of a good texture. 2 The Norman Conqueror (Sharman) Similar in age to my winner but on the day not really enjoying himself that much l thought. He is a mustard, masculine in head and expression, his mouth is good. Ok in neck and shoulder, firm in body. But for he is a little heavy in front and where my winner scored. Good Citizen Dog Scheme B (2) 1 Ch Danchester’s Can You Hear Me Roar for Bonnybeck (Imp Fin) (Sleight) A lovely type of mustard and shown in great coat and condition. She really scored here in head neck and front. Very feminine with lovely large dark eyes, correct in muzzle to skull balance, excellent mouth, good in neck and shoulder, nice length of body and so well balance and with that lovely soft rise over the loin. 2 Puddockswell Little Fig (Redman) A pepper and maybe a little finer all through in type to my winner but still a nice overall balance. Ok in neck and shoulder, nice layback, topline is correct and was well ribbed and strong in loin and with a nice body. Head is good in balance and expression, firm in muzzle and her mouth is good too. She also has an excellent coat texture and again nicely presented. PB (3,1) 1 Ashenfox Going Solo (Fox) A very nice pepper puppy who has a most lovely head and expression, very typical of the breed, nice large dark eyes, correct length of muzzle, excellent mouth. Her front is good and has good bone and tight feet, she has such a lovely outline and is good in rib, short in loin, moves with a lot of style. Presented really nicely 2 Puddickswell Elkie at Glenaska (IKC) (Giannetti) A mustard l felt on the day lacked a little on maturity. She is a nice size and has a nice outline. She is very feminine in head and expression, Her front is good and has good bone. She has the right amount of neck and with good shoulders. However on the day she wasn’t in her best coat which pegged her back and not quite as free moving as my winner. But she is still young and maturity will make her look so much different I’m sure.PGB (9,1) 1 Etsill Evie (Kurg & Milton) A really nice pepper bitch who is joust of junior at 20mths and looking so nice. No mistaking her femininity, she presents a really nice outline, scores in neck and shoulder, good overall balance, nice length, well ribbed, correct in topline and tailset and carries correctly on the move. She is sound and free moving, Presented so nicely. Close up for the Res CC, splitting hairs between her and her sister. 2 Puddockswell Little Fig (Redman) 3 Woodfud Silver Star (Wilford), Res Diamondandie Ruby Sunrise (Mcguinness) VHC Puddockswell Cox’s Pippin (IKC) (Kenyon) LB (3,1) 1 Etsill Swannay JW (Kurg) I was very taken with lovely mustard bitch and little did l know that her sister had just won the previous class. Wow what a pair to have bred. I could say so much the same as her sister. Again so good in head and expression, lovely large dark eyes, excellent mouth, Super outline, well ribbed short in loin, correct in topline. Sound and free moving, l agonised with the Res cc between her and her sister, hairs split them, in the end she won it, but it was close! 2 Lairdship Lickety Split (Mills) A pepper who was a touch larger than my winner but not big by any means. Again scores in outline, everything flowing, in super body condition. So feminine in head and expression and again that lovely expression so essential in a Dandie for me. Not quite as good in front as my winner both standing and moving but there is a lot to like about her. OB (10,2) 1 Ch Calmarlin Memento Vita JW ( Davies & Davies & Kettle) As soon as l saw this mustard bitch l was taken with her and l wasn’t disappointed on the table. She is so nice to go over, nothing really out of place. She is a lovely type, she has a good neck and shoulder, correct in topline, well ribbed, short in loin and excellent tail carriage. She moves so soundly both ways and with a lot of style. When it came to the CC she just floated around the delighted and l was delighted to give it. 2 Ch Finamor’s Voulez Vous with Bonnybeck JW (Sleight) Another mustard and again quite a nice type and balance, I didn’t feel she was quite as good in head and expression as my winner, but im not saying she doesn’t have a nice head because she does. Her outline is good and correct in topline and tail. Good in front and feet. Again so sound and free moving, her coat was in perfect condition and nicely presented 3 Se/dk/fin/pol Ch Ww,jeuw Whisborne Summer Edition (Ostrowski), Res Dryfevalley Willow at Carnkie (Jackman), VHC Lairdship Labour of Love (Bainbridge) VB (8,1) 1 Mishahda Where It All Began VW (Sleight) 2 Dryfevalley Golden Lullaby at Carnkie (Jackman) 3 Swiss/int Ch Frida Kahlo Z Roxburku Sun (Leszczynska), Res Puddockswell My Darling Clementine cum Magellanica (Cavanagh), VHC Ceilmear’s White Star Beauty (Bainbridge) Mr G Corish |
