Caledonian Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club Championship Show. 14 June 2026 DCC Sleight Finamor's King Of The Road At Bonnybeck My thanks go to the officers and committee for the invitation to judge their show judged in the Borders, the ancestral home of the breed. I found some of the classes to be challenging and had to scratch my head a few times. Movement in many of the exhibits was shocking with many struggling with the grass, which in fairness wasn't long and the surface was smooth so I can only assume a lack of training was to blame. Coats were wide and varied both in condition and presentation. There are plenty of people in the breed who are more than happy to help with trimming advice, please ask someone who's trimming you admire, either after judging is over or contact at home for advice, most will be more than willing to help you. Temperaments as usual were a delight in both exhibits and exhibitors!
MPD (1) 1st Steven's & Squires Redgreet Barfield At Tabordane. Pepper,in his underwear today and in need of a better trim to show off his shape, well ribbed and a good topline. Short hocked and moved confidently.
PD (4) 1st Ascott Wepwawet Night Owl. Pepper boy in need of a better trim to show off his assets. Confident and coped with the ground well. Ample head with a nice expression. Well ribbed and good set on,his hind movement won him the class but he is rather wide in front. 2nd Jackman Carnkie Ragged Robin. More mature than first and his coat is coming on nicely. Soft expression and dark eye. His topline is rather steep at the moment and he could benefit with more body. He didn't cope well with the ground and this showed in his hind movement. 3rd Cundall Bleaklee Augustus Moddle
JD (2) 1st Sleight Finamor's King Of The Road At Bonnybeck. Mustard boy who is just my type, confident and good moving. Strong balanced head and well filled under the eye. Clean shoulder and run in. Well ribbed, correct topline and plenty of bone. Well presented jacket. 2nd Hoskisson & Hinds Fabio Z Meduñkovè Strànê (Imp CZE). Pepper who lacks in confidence but presents a good overall outline and carries a good jacket. Dark eye and nice expression. Another that didn't cope with the ground.
PGD (3-1 T) 1st Cruden & Kaye Puddockswell Knuckles Mcginty for Shamsky. A well fed boy who's coat needs attention. Strong skull and muzzle, dark eye. Loaded in shoulder and topline is rather lost due to weight and he found the ground hard to cope with. 2nd Giannetti Puddockswell Cashel Blue At Glenaska. In better coat than first, nice expression and large teeth. Rather loaded in shoulder and wide in front, movement was hard to assess due to hopping.
LD (6) 1st Harcourt-Morris Dainty Dandies Explorer At Lenacourt (Imp NLD) JW. Lovely balance of head, dark eye and large teeth. Rather steep in shoulder but tidy in front. Well ribbed and good overall length with correct topline and set on. He moved well but in the challenge took umbrage at another male and blew his chances. 2nd Denham Dentgate Lunar Light. Mustard in good coat, dark eye and well filled skull and muzzle. Good length and set on. Another who didn't move well on the grass. 3rd Cundall Puddockswell What The Dickens At Bleaklee
OD (3) 1st Buckley Lovelettie Busy Bean. A lot to like about this boy but he is a slow burner and needs to drop into himself. Dark eye and soft expression, large teeth and strong jaw. Clean shoulder and front into a nice run in and good length. Well prepared jacket and he moved well. 2nd Spence IR Ch Puddockswell Duke Ellington At DachsbrookCENT PW JCH 23. Mustard in good coat. Good skull but light in eye. Shoulder rather loaded, good length and well muscled rear. Hind movement let him down.
CH D (2) 1st Milton & Kurg Ch Barton Dandies Charles Darnay (Imp ESP) Impressive standing and doesn't disappoint on the move. Balanced head and nice expression, good mouth of large teeth. Clean shoulder and tidy in front. Well ribbed and a good topline and set on. 2nd Spence IR Ch Puddockswell Duke Ellington At Dachsbrook CENT PW JCH 23
PB (4) 1st Miller Dryfevalley Rona. Not a lot of glamour to this girl but she's as sound as a bell and can move. She lacks confidence but time is on her side. In lovely coat with tan points and correct body weight. Ample head and dark eye. Well ribbed and carries a good topline. 2nd Hayes Wepwawet Real Humdinger. Mustard in need of a better jacket. Dark eye and good bite. Ok in shoulder and good length and well ribbed but flattens in topline. Sound mover.
JB (1) 1st Gianetti Puddockswell Elkie At Glenaska Pretty mustard with dark eye and sweet expression. Ample skull and good mouth. Clean shoulder and neat front. Coat not at its best. Moved well.
PGB (1) 1st Cundall Puddockswell Copperfield Of Bleaklee. Mustard who was short of coat on the day. Dark eye, enough skull and good bite. Rather wide in front, well ribbed and short loin. She moved well behind. LB (4) 1st Kurg & Milton Etsill Evie. Pretty pepper with a lovely feminine expression. Balanced skull with enough fill under the eye, strong jaw. Good layback and tidy front. Correct run in and well ribbed with correct topline and set on. Powerful movement with correct footfall. 2nd Cundall Diddimont Bella Trix Of Bleaklee. Mustard who was carrying weight today. Nice expression, dark eye and good mouth. Well boned and muscled and she moved well. 3rd Robert's Marbledale Love Me Tender
OB (4-1) 1st Jackman Dryfevalley Willow At Carnkie, well presented clear mustard coat, feminine expression and dark eye, large teeth and good balance of head. Shoulders are clean and a good front. Correct in topline and set on. Well muscled rear. I found her front movement to be hackneyed rather than the Daisy Cutting we expect in the breed and very close behind. 2nd Spence IR Ch Puddockswell Day Dream At Dachsbrook (IKC)Another carrying weight today. Dark expressive eye, good mouth. Heavy in shoulder and lacking in bone. 3rd Hayes Diddimont Andante At Karezig
Ch B (3-1) 1st Sleight Ch Danchester's Can You Hear Me Roar For Bonnybeck (Imp Fin) well prepared and presented mustard. Typical breed type and fits the bill in all areas. Clean shoulder and front, correct for ribbing and short loin. Short hocked and well muscled. Moved with plenty of drive.
Vet B (4-1) 1st Sleight Mishahda Where It All Began VW.In great condition throughout, well presented coat and well off for muscle. Dark eye and well filled skull with large teeth. Good length and firm topline. Short hock and a good mover. 2nd Cavanagh Puddockswell My Darling Clementine Cum Magellanika. Such a happy mustard girl who carries a good coat and in excellent body weight. Good mouth and expression but not the head of first. Clean shoulder and weasely topline. Happy mover.
