Dandie Dinmont | Border Union 16 Judge's Critique |
Border Union 16 Judge

DANDIE DINMONT BORDER UNION 16 Judge(s): MRS JEANETTE FIELD (CIRENFIELD) Dandie Dinmont Terriers As always Border Union was very well organised and most hospitable. It was extremely gratifying to have such a good entry with 32 dogs turning up on the day. Perhaps it was the fact that Kelso is so close to the ancestral home of Old Ginger, that many of the exhibits forgot their basic training & were moving as if to say “let us get to The Haining & go exploring”. All the exhibits had good & correct dentition, but many had light eyes which really spoils the expression. The accepted double coat had disappeared in many & the fine feathered tapering of the ears had vanished due it would seem to the use of clippers. PD (2) 1 Drake’s Tollcross Tartan Tavish, a very well balanced pepper with an excellent coat & good body shape. Well muscled for his age & moved very positively both front & rear, dark in eye with a lovely expression, shows great promise for the future. BP; 2 Eriksson’s Scottsbairn Glendouglas, a bigger dog than 1 & somewhat out of coat. Hind movement was better than front, strong head & correct mouth. JD (1) 1 Miller & Cox-Purcell’s Puddockswell Augustus Magnussen, masculine pepper with good head & dark eyes. Nice topline when standing but on the move he seemed not to be concentrating. PGD (4,1a) 1 Booth’s Borderstone Kingman for Lannia, well presented pepper with excellent double coat, moved out straight & true. Good length of body but would have liked a stronger head; 2 Wager’s Inzievar Border Silver, another in good coat & lovely topknot. Movement let him down, seemingly unsettled on the grass. LD (3,1) 1 Bell’s Hawksmill Indigo from Reidswire, pepper in good coat with pleasing expression. Excellent head & teeth. Good outline & moved with impulsion from the rear but not so well at the front; 2 Jacka-Slater’s Pennywave Lone Ranger, not in so good a coat as 1, another nice head & good rib but front movement really let him down. OD (5,2) 1 Eriksson’s Inzievar Wins Gold, great head, lovely expression, well muscled neck & good shoulders, classic topline & good tail carriage. His movement was excellent with a fluent & easy stride. Notwithstanding being somewhat out of coat the balanced picture he presented earned him the CC; 2 Bromley’s Mishada Volcanic Storm, dark eyed pepper with strong muzzle, lots of bone & good coat. Carrying perhaps a little too much weight which rather spoilt his outline & his rear movement let him down; 3 Rolland’s Dandiroyal Diggory Velvet. VD (3) 1 Riach’s Puddockswell Gilded Imp, correct sized mustard who moved with drive & energy belying his 9 years. Lovely double coat, topknot & feathering, most appealing expression. RCC. PB (4,1) 1 Milton’s Puddockswell Hot Lips Houlihan at Wilmit, very feminine mustard who moved well both front & behind. At just over 6 months she still needs to develop in head & coat but another who should have a promising future; 2 Sleight & Bore’s Danchester’s Passing You, lovely head & expression & nice eyes a little short of coat & moved with perhaps too much enthusiasm which spoilt her outline; 3 Drake’s Tollcross Thistledown. JB (2) 1 Saville’s Puddockswell Maudie Mack at Darcellie, good outline & balanced on the move, nice head & dark eye, not quite the correct coat yet; 2 Buckley’s German Dandies Violetta, another pleasing bitch who moved out well, also not quite right in coat yet, just not the expression & dark eye of 1. PGB (5,1) 1 Bromley’s Mishada Vibrant Amber, excellent double coat of the correct texture, lovely head & expression & nice dark eye. Good topline & tail carriage, movement OK but occasionally inconsistent; 2 Sleight’s Bonnybeck Shimmering, another nice head with typical expression, moved with drive but not in the best of coats; 3 Garratt’s Cloverwood Wist Upon A Star. LB (6,3) 1 Bell’s Dandiroyal Rita Skeeter, very feminine mustard in excellent coat, moved positively & held a good outline. Good head & eyes & very well presented; 2 Riach’s Puddockswell Shadow Weaver, a pleasing expression, neat feet, good tail carriage & moved with drive but not holding as good a shape as 1; 3 Jacka-Slater’s Cloverwood Duchess May. OB (7,2) 1 Chapman-King’s Inzievar Gold Spark, lovely mustard in excellent coat, super head & expression, good topknot, correct outline & tail carriage while standing or on the move. Extremely positive movement at all times. CC & BOB; 2 Kinsey- Morgan’s Inzievar Gold Effect, another super mustard who also moved out well, sharing many of the characteristics of 1 (probably not surprising when I subsequently discovered they are half sisters). RCC; 3 Denham’s Dentgate Fire Opal. VB (1) 1 Kinsey- Morgan’s Inzievar Gold Edition, a very fit & happy 9 year old, excellent teeth, good head & nice double coat, moved out well. JEANETTE FIELD |
