CESKY MIDLAND COUNTIES 11 Judge(s) MR ADRIAN MARETT BD FR/LUX/SWISS/INT CH CAPTAIN CROCHET DU CHAMP D EOLE (MS P J WITHERS) Cesky Terriers We were late starting which meant the group was called while PGB was being judged, which is never conducive for exhibitors or judge. Overall I found the bitches stronger than the dogs for quality. Temperaments seem to have improved & we no longer have many nervy examples of the breed being exhibited. I wasn’t too impressed with movement on quite a few exhibits, some whom I did like threw their chances away by moving either too wide or too close. A number of dogs tended to fly their tails on the move. The Standard calls for ‘carried slightly upwards when dog is moving’. Presentation was to a very high standard on all exhibits. The last time I judged I commented on the lack of muscletone on many exhibits. This was not so much an issue this time around. The Cesky is a breed for which it is easy to build up muscle as they are always ‘up for anything’. In a breed where entries are numerically small & the Kennel Club requires, as one of its conditions, an average entry of 30 per show before it will consider granting CC status, it is a double-edged sword when it comes to entering dogs under the same judges for a second time. Should owners withdraw their dogs if the judge has already awarded top honours or do they continue to support the entry to help the breed reach that magical 30 dogs? The BOB was my BIS at the club limited show in 2008 & while I am aware of her successes over a long period of time I could not deny her the top spot once again, I felt she looked better than ever. Approaching veteran, the breed is well known for producing lasters & she is testament to this. On the flip side, does this say something about the quality of the younger dogs? I know there are some good up-&-coming exhibits, we need them if the breed is going to succeed in gaining CC status which I truly hope it will. PD (1) 1 Rushby’s Grancek Mody Mraz at Placido, promising 10 months outgoing lad. Good head & eye. Tends to fly his tail on the move. Good propulsive movement. BP. PGD (6) 1 Atter’s Ridley Tomas, compact dog, dark eye, correct head proportions, well furnished, steady on the move. RBD; 2 Burrows’ Pendevour Pierrot, correct earset, good neck, nicely presented, moved better the more he went. Tail a little high on the move; 3 Hammond’s Oneva Elegant. OD (5) 1 Withers’ Fr/Lux/Swiss/Int Ch Captain Crochet du Champ D’eole, my RBD last time I judged, he has matured into a good example of the breed, a steady dog, everything in proportion. BD; 2 Taylor’s Duffy du Champ E’eole avec Polede, heavier dog, well ribbed, well set on ears, moved true; 3 Taylor’s Polede Lforluka PB (1) 1 Brown’s Lastarean Ky Me A River, windy almost 10 months bitch. A little long in body perhaps. Her colouring should see her turn into an attractive bitch. PGB (6) 1 Atter’s Emily Day Break, feminine girl, attractive head & expression. Wouldn’t want anymore of her, coat still needs to clear. Moved out well. RBB; 2 Taylor’s E’French Connection du Champ D’eole, correct head & eye, more depth of chest than 1, workmanlike action on the move, reminded me of her grandmother; 3 Burrage’s Komidion Night Music at Sametova. OB (6) Good class. 1 Tobijanski’s Janski Celtic Ceska, feminine & flashy bitch, the Cesky is a flashy breed when it comes to group judging & this bitch knows how to put on a show. BOB; 2 Burrage’s Vandell Sweet Song of Sametova, finer bitch all through, well carried tail, A1 presentation. Considered for RBB but felt she lacked the oomph on the move; 3 Harris’ Pendevour Pheel The Music. ADRIAN MARETT |
